QB | Michael Vick | Atlanta Falcons | Fantasy
Stan Olson, of The Charlotte Observer, reports Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Vick is not sure of where the scrutiny of him comes from. During a conference call, Vick said: "I get scrutinized each and every day; everything I do. I don't know where it all came from, what started it or what I have done wrong along the way. But it's evident that something's wrong and I don't know if it's with me, but if it is me, I need to correct it." Vick takes issue with people who said he struggled to learn the team's offense and added, "I don't know why people say that. I picked up the offense my first year. The living proof is we went to the NFC Championship Game. I think the biggest struggle was going out there and getting reps. There are a lot of plays in this system. If you're calling one play one week and then not calling it again until two or three weeks later, then you're not getting the proper reps that you need to get in the actual game."

Jackson said, "He's asking me ... what I'm comfortable with in the run calls. He's not just going to call it one way and make me do just the things that he wants to do. We're able to communicate. I think it's great, how we're bonding." Linehan has vowed to balance the offense and has no doubts about Jackson. "His time has come. He's going to be a workhorse," said Linehan.

RB | Laurence Maroney | New England Patriots | Injury News, Fantasy
Shalise Manza Young, of the Providence Journal, reports New England Patriots RB Laurence Maroney (knee) needs to work on his blitz pickups and route-running in order to become a more complete running back. "I think one of the things he didn't do much of (at Minnesota) is blitz pickup and route-running. So I would say that he started relatively farther back in those areas at the start of camp," said Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. "He needs a little refinement in his route-running, but that's coming, too. I think that eventually -- not even eventually -- he'll be able to contribute in the passing game and I think that eventually he could probably be a solid receiver. He just hasn't had a lot of background in it." Maroney is expected to play this Sunday, Sept. 10, despite wearing a brace on his left knee all week.

RB | Ronnie Brown | Miami Dolphins | Fantasy

I don't think about that. I don't think about my knees, my shoulders. I'm all right. The time is now here, and I've got to go out and prove that I can get the job done."

RB | Tyson Thompson | Dallas Cowboys | Fantasy
Rob Phillips, of DallasCowboys.com, reports Dallas Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells said Thursday, Sept. 7, that RB Tyson Thompson likely will get a small dose on offense, along with being the primary kickoff return specialist during the team's Week 1 game. "I might have to spot him some on Sunday," Parcells said of Thompson, who only had 46 carries last year as a rookie. "I'm much more confident in the player. But I am not a 100 percent confident. He's made good progress. I see a better developed player than what he was. But it was still a little less than perfect."

RB | Brian Westbrook | Philadelphia Eagles | Injury News, Fantasy
Don Benevento, of the Courier-Post, reports Philadelphia Eagles RB Brian Westbrook (foot) continues to practice without any problems and will be in the starting lineup for Sunday's Week 1 game. "I think he's fine, said offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg. "We have great confidence in Brian and all the things he can do." Mornhinweg said Correll Buckhalter also would see his share of playing time in the backfield. "Correll will be up there and he will be active," Mornhinweg said. "We'll get him in the football game, and we expect good things from him. He sure has been good for us the past couple of weeks."

Lundy and Morency are basically going to split time, with Wali probably playing a bit more."

RB | Edgerrin James | Arizona Cardinals | Fantasy
The Associated Press reports Arizona Cardinals RB Edgerrin James is ready to roll for the 2006 season, despite a very quiet preseason with the team. "I'd say Edge should get probably 25 runs and probably five touches with the pass," head coach Dennis Green said after the Cardinals practiced Wednesday, Sept. 6. James carried seven times for 1 yard in four preseason games, caught two passes for 11 yards, and would have preferred not to have played at all. James is out to show fans that he is just as good a player in Arizona as he was in Indianapolis, where he gained at least 100 yards in 49 games and won two NFL rushing titles. "They're going to see the same guy who's been doing the same thing for seven years," he said. "I only have one way to play, and that's at a high level." "He's ready to go," Green said. "Keep in mind, he sees himself a certain way. He sees himself as being one of the most dynamic players in the game. He sees himself as being one of the best backs in the game. It's up to us to make sure that we fulfill our obligation to be a much-improved team, and then I think Edge will take care of his part."

"But we understand each other. I definitely understand him. I feel good about the conversation and my involvement now and where he wants me to be in this offense." It is not even clear if Williams will be active for the team's Week 1 game. "I'm just going to keep working for it, and the more I work for it, hopefully it comes to (Martz) that I need to be playing. He's been doing this a long time, so he knows what he's doing."

He's on the free agent wire right now, and we thought it was important for us to meet him and see how he's doing physically; just get a feel for him from our own standpoint. We had pretty good grades on him, obviously, coming out. We just took a look into his situation as we have a number of players."

WR | Deion Branch | New England Patriots | Fantasy
Ron Borges, of The Boston Globe, reports the arbitrator in the New England Patriots WR Deion Branch case denied an NFL motion that the mediator had no jurisdiction in Branch's dispute with the team. The arbitrator then informed both sides he would not be available to hear the first of Branch's two claims against the team Saturday, Sept. 9. The discovery and deposition hearings will be argued before special master Stephen Burbank early next week. The development postpones the original grievance hearing for at least a week. The running, cutting, being on a different surface and the two-a-days, all of that put us up against what we envisioned as an obstacle." He came back faster than projected, and he said he appreciates things more. "Definitely," he said, "because this game isn't promised. No day, practice or game is promised. To be back on the field, I really appreciate this game a lot more." Edwards insists he can be as good as he was prior to his injury, and the evidence is compelling that he is right.

Now he's ready to prove his value to the Broncos. "Knowing that I feel good, I'm just going to go out and play like I know how," Walker said Wednesday, Sept. 6. Walker hasn't shown any ill effects of the torn anterior cruciate ligament that required two operations. "I think he's fine. I think he's 100 percent," head coach Mike Shanahan said. "It's hard to play this game if you're not 100 percent." Walker has quickly adapted to QB Jake Plummer's style in Denver. Shanahan said he's not worried about the timing between the two because it's normally the rookie receivers, not veterans, who have such a steep learning curve. "They're pretty much on the same page," Shanahan said.

It won't be known for a while whether Robinson will be suspended, but Packers' general manager Ted Thompson, who drafted Robinson in 2001 when he was with the Seattle Seahawks, wanted to see where the talented receiver and returner was in his life. Thompson would not reveal anything about his conversation with Robinson and would not say if the Packers are interested in signing him. He missed most of his rookie season after breaking his leg, and then missed all of his second season after tearing up his knee in a motorcycle accident. "It has been two years since you've seen anything," head coach Romeo Crennel said. "For him to get out there on the field and produce is a plus. It's a positive. I know in his mind it is."
