QB | Carson Palmer | Cincinnati Bengals | Injury News, Fantasy
The Cincinnati Post reports Dr. Lonnie Paulos issued another statement about Cincinnati Bengals QB Carson Palmer's (knee) knee surgery via the team Thursday evening, Jan. 12. "I believe and regret that media reports, based on interviews with me, have misinterpreted my view of Carson Palmer's knee injury. Though the injury was serious, the essential facts remain that his ACL and MCL have been repaired. I would consider this a typical ACL/MCL football injury." He added that his use of "career-threatening" was about the type of surgery in general, not specifically Palmer's. "Comments attributed to me that the knee injury was "devastating and potentially career-ending" were meant to describe such injuries in general, not Carson Palmer's particular case. I was accurately quoted by the Associated Press that my bottom line is optimism regarding Carson's prognosis. With a successful rehabilitation program, he has an excellent chance of being medically cleared for play at the beginning of the 2006 NFL regular season."

QB | Daunte Culpepper | Minnesota Vikings | Injury News, Fantasy
The Star Tribune reports Minnesota Vikings QB Daunte Culpepper (knee) weighed 266 pounds when he suffered his season-ending knee injury last season. Thursday, Jan. 12, Culpepper was at Winter Park and he weighed 252, an indication that he is going to play next year at least 20 pounds lighter. Dr. Dave Fischer and head trainer Chuck Barta checked out Culpepper's knee and the conclusion of the two was that Culpepper is right on schedule rehabilitating the knee and there is a good chance he will be ready to do some things, not everything, at training camp, and may be ready for the regular season opener.

QB | Brian Griese | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Injury News, Fantasy
Jim Flynn, of PewterReport.com, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Brian Griese will probably need to restructure his contract to remain with the team in 2006. His cap value is scheduled to escalate from $1.398 million to $7.083 million in 2006. The team will have to make a decision on what to do with Griese before Mar. 3, which is when he's scheduled to receive a $2.6 million roster bonus. General manager Bruce Allen said Griese's rehab from knee surgery is going well. "It looks like he'll be ready for the offseason program," Allen said of Griese. "Brian is very aggressive in his rehab, and he's doing most of the work he needs to do right now. We almost have to slow him down. He should be ready for the start of OTA days."

QB | Chris Simms | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Free Agency News, Fantasy
Jim Flynn, of PewterReport.com, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Bruce Allen has already had discussions with the agent for QB Chris Simms regarding a contract extension. Allen said Thursday, Jan. 12, that the Buccaneers want to take both Simms and QB Brian Griese into the 2006 regular season. Simms is scheduled to become a restricted free agent this offseason, which means Tampa Bay will consider tendering him a one-year contract that requires another team to offer the team compensation in the form of draft picks in order to acquire him.

"They want to pursue me long-term," Brees said from Birmingham, Ala. "I know that's something that for the next few months everybody's going to be working on. As far as what's going on up to this point, it's not much, just the very beginning stages. I know they want me long-term and I want to be here long-term." Chargers general manager A.J. Smith at first refused to confirm that he or anyone else from the front office told Brees that. A few hours later, Smith called reporters back to confirm what Brees said. "We are going to try to long-term him," Smith said. "We originally wanted to do this in early February, but I guess Drew was just answering the question honestly."

QB | Jon Kitna | Cincinnati Bengals | Fantasy
Mark Curnutte, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, reports Cincinnati Bengals QB Carson Palmer said he would like to see backup QB Jon Kitna to return next season. Kitna will be an unrestricted free agent. "Jon has some opportunities out there," Palmer said. "I know the organization wants him back. I want what's best for him. But selfishly, I want him back. Bill Williamson, of the Denver Post, reports there is plenty of speculation the Miami Dolphins will trade RB Ricky Williams and the Denver Broncos are already being linked to that speculation. The Broncos are likely to add to their running arsenal in the offseason, but it most likely will be through the draft. "When we were up, there wasn't any use in continuing to take that pounding," Portis said. "Ladell and Rock Cartwright are capable backs. As long as we were in that position, it was going to be Ladell."

"We had a good discussion about many things, as we do, but not specifically him. Those discussions will continue. We just said we would get together later on and talk about (his future)." If he does decide to play, Alstott might be too expensive to keep around at his current rate of pay. He's under contract through 2008, but the final three years of Alstott's contract are voidable. Alstott's salary cap value is scheduled to go up from $2.393 million to $5.168 million in 2006. He's also scheduled to receive a $3 million roster bonus Mar. 3.
