Fantasy football IDP sleepers: Everson Griffen, more

      June 27, 2014 @ 09:59:09 PDT

DE Everson Griffen, Minnesota Vikings
Success for Allen's successor

We'll be releasing our fantasy football Individual Defensive Player (IDP) rankings and projections very soon. Three assets included on the rankings, and those not yet featured, who are in for a big breathrough this year.

DE Everson Griffen, Minnesota Vikings

Jared Allen's departure opens up the right end spot for Griffen this year. As noted in this informative NFL.com report, Leslie Frazier wasn't utilizing Griffen's strengths last year, shoehorning him into inside-rush assignments. As a 4-3 edge rusher for Mike Zimmer's defense, which builds strong front sevens, he's one of the biggest breakout candidates in IDP.

LB Alec Ogletree, St. Louis Rams

Another beneficiary of a DC change, Ogletree already had hype heading into his rookie 2013 year and showcased his immense upside. He could make a leap; Gregg Williams' arrival should maximize Ogletree's fast, aggressive nature, even if he's playing in the less optimal strong side in a 4-3 alignment. (Also, Cory digs Emmanuel Lamur, who's turning heads for the Cincinnati Bengals.)

S D.J. Swearinger, Houston Texans

Shifting back to strong safety for 2014 with Kendrick Lewis strengthening free safety, Swearinger should take big steps in his sophomore season. He plays the run well, which fits this position for racking up tackles. In the whirlwind that sits the middle fantasy tiers of defensive backs, Swearinger, in Romeo Crennel's defense, can rise.
