KFFL's Fantasy Baseball Analysis Draft (BAD) and League is unlike most expert fantasy games. First, this isn't a mock draft. At end of the 2014 season, we'll crown a champion of this rotisserie baseball league. Second, our 15-team, 28-round fantasy baseball draft doesn't come with post-game summaries. It provides you with each participant's mindset at the time he selected.
1) RP Rex Brothers, Colorado Rockies
Steve Gardner, USA TODAY/Sports Weekly | Roster
With only one closer on my roster and even the lower-tier ones coming off the board rapidly, I had to go with Brothers, who I hope is at least a co-closer (with LaTroy Hawkins) to start the season. He has a better skill set than Hawkins, so it wouldn't be a shock to see him gradually take over the majority of the save chances.
2) OF Angel Pagan, San Francisco Giants
Andrew Martinez, RotoWire | Roster
No-risk pick of Teixeira?
Felt like Pagan was a value here, after he missed time in the second half of 2013. Would've taken Alejandro De Aza if he had a clearer path to playing time.
3) SP Chris Archer, Tampa Bay Rays
Howard Bender, FanGraphs | Roster
Seems to be the forgotten starter in Tampa. His command has steadily improved from year to year; he has a decent strikeout rate; and that sinker-slider combo induces lots of weak grounders. Maybe it won't be game-breaking, but he'll take another step forward this year.
4) SP CC Sabathia, New York Yankees
Jeff Paur, RTSports | Roster
Who would have thought Sabathia would ever go this late in the draft? I'm happy to take a chance on him to rebound this season. He seems in much better shape and looks poised to try to put last season behind him.
5) SP Lance Lynn, St. Louis Cardinals
Ryan Bloomfield, Baseball HQ | Roster
Should rack up K's and get wins with St. Louis. The 16th is too late for a guy like this. Just needs to harness control to take the next step.
6) OF George Springer, Houston Astros
Nicholas Minnix, KFFL | Roster
I'm surprised (but not disappointed) that there isn't more hype about his upside (20-20 once the Astros call him up in June). I get to fill Springer's spot in the meantime. Once a much more hopeful choice in Oscar Taveras went in Round 15, I just sweated out the next several picks.
7) 3B Cody Asche, Philadelphia Phillies
Mark Bloom, RotoExperts | Roster
(Sung to the tune of "Monster Mash"): I picked Cody Asche -- this guy will be a 15 HR smash. Corner guy Cody Asche -- a sleeper pick who is far from trash.
