KFFL's Fantasy Baseball Analysis Draft (BAD) and League is unlike most expert fantasy games. First, this isn't a mock draft. At end of the 2014 season, we'll crown a champion of this rotisserie baseball league. Second, our 15-team, 28-round fantasy baseball draft doesn't come with post-game summaries. It provides you with each participant's mindset at the time he selected.
1) 2B/SS Jed Lowrie, Oakland Athletics
Steve Gardner, USA TODAY/Sports Weekly | Roster
Lowrie stayed healthy last season and finished among MLB's top 20 in hits. Position flexibility is huge when it comes to filling the middle infield slot, especially since I also have Matt Carpenter eligible at 2B/3B.
2) C Jason Castro, Houston Astros
Andrew Martinez, RotoWire | Roster
Stuck in the Middlebrooks
I see Castro as a value here, and he'll pair nicely with Wilin Rosario, giving me a great base of power and potential profit in batting average at catcher.
3) 3B Todd Frazier, Cincinnati Reds
Howard Bender, FanGraphs | Roster
I believe in the power and I also believe that last year's .269 BABIP will correct itself which will raise everything else that lagged in 2013. Would have considered Jed Lowrie here but the injury risk high and there will be more middle infielders from which to choose later on.
4) 1B Ryan Howard, Philadelphia Phillies
Jeff Paur, RTSports | Roster
This is the time of the draft when you can start taking chances, and Howard is a definite risky pick. He didn't look too bad in his return from injury last year, so I think he could rebound in his first full season since the major injury. We all know he has huge power potential in that ballpark.
5) 3B Will Middlebrooks, Boston Red Sox
Ryan Bloomfield, Baseball HQ | Roster
He and Todd Frazier were my last two reasonable 3B left, so Howard made the choice easy for me, taking Frazier two picks earlier. My strategy was go late on 3B, and Middlebrooks' 2H rebound is encouraging.
6) RP Neftali Feliz, Texas Rangers
Nicholas Minnix, KFFL | Roster
Each team is reining in its second closer. I admit: I felt the need to keep up. But it's the right time. I like Feliz more than the general crowd does, I think. Ron Washington will hand the RHP that job as long as Feliz is healthy.
7) SS Jonathan Villar, Houston Astros
Mark Bloom, RotoExperts | Roster
What is the difference between Villar and Everth Cabrera? I am hoping very little. If this is true, I just selected a 50 SB monster in the 14th round.
