First Baseman

1B | Prince Fielder | Texas Rangers | Fantasy
Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder will bat ahead of 3B Adrian Beltre in the lineup for 2014, with Fielder going third and Beltre fourth. Columnist Gerry Fraley speculates OF Shin-Soo Choo will bat leadoff. The second slot in the lineup was not disclosed by manager Ron Washington.

A combination of a shorter right-field porch at The Ballpark in Arlington and hitting ahead of Adrian Beltre could help Fielder regain what seemed to be a lost stroke in 2013. You have to wonder if his personal issues (divorce) may have spilled over onto the diamond, and if he is past those issues Fielder could be gangbusters in 2014.

1B | Corey Hart | Seattle Mariners | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
The Seattle Mariners are comfortable going with a rotation of OF Corey Hart, 1B Justin Smoak and 1B Logan Morrison at first base and designated hitter. Hart may even drop out of the rotation as his knees get better and he sees more outfield duty.

Shortstop

SS | Stephen Drew | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
The New York Yankees appear to have made their last free-agent signing of the offseason, according to New York Daily News baseball columnist Andy Martino. Martino points to evidence that includes the team not pursuing free-agent SS Stephen Drew (Red Sox) and the team not pursuing San Diego Padres 3B Chase Headley via trade.

SS | Francisco Lindor | Cleveland Indians | Transaction
The Cleveland Indians have 22 non-roster invitees headed for spring training. The pitchers include David Aardsma, Scott Atchison, Travis Banwart, Matt Capps, Tyler Cloyd, Shaun Marcum, J.C. Ramirez and Michael Zagurski. The catchers include Luke Carlin, Jake Lowery, Roberto Perez, Matt Treanor and Tony Wolters. The infielders are Elliot Johnson, Jason Giambi, Francisco Lindor, Ryan Rohlinger and Joey Wendle, while the outfielders are comprised of Matt Carson, Jeff Francoeur, Nyjer Morgan and Tyler Naquin.

Third Baseman

3B | Chase Headley | San Diego Padres | Free Agents, Fantasy

3B | Chris Nelson | Cincinnati Reds | Transaction
The Cincinnati Reds signed free-agent 3B Chris Nelson (Angels) to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training Monday, Jan. 27.

3B | Miguel Sano | Minnesota Twins | Injury, Fantasy
Minnesota Twins 3B Miguel Sano (elbow) said he expects to hit anywhere from 45 to 55 home runs in 2014. He hit 35 home runs in 123 minor league games in 2013 while battling a sore elbow for the majority of the season. Sano was given a clean bill of health during a physical over the weekend, and it looks like he'll avoid surgery on his elbow. He plans to work on his grasp of the strike zone in order to become a better hitter and make the team out of spring training.

Catcher

C | Austin Hedges | San Diego Padres | Transaction
The San Diego Padres have invited RP Blaine Boyer, RP Leonel Campos, P Anthony Carter, OF Alex Dickerson, 2B Jonathan Galvez, INF Alberto Gonzalez, C Austin Hedges, OF Xavier Nady, OF Rico Noel, P Dennis O'Grady, INF Jace Peterson, P Adys Portillo, P Kevin Quackenbush, OF Daniel Robertson, P Joe Ross, 2B Cory Spangenberg and P Matt Wisler to spring training as non-roster invitees

Outfielder

OF | Shin-Soo Choo | Texas Rangers | Fantasy
Texas Rangers 1B Prince Fielder will bat ahead of 3B Adrian Beltre in the lineup for 2014, with Fielder going third and Beltre fourth. Columnist Gerry Fraley speculates OF Shin-Soo Choo will bat leadoff. The second slot in the lineup was not disclosed by manager Ron Washington.

Starting Pitcher

SP | Johan Santana | free agent | Transaction, Free Agents, Fantasy,
Any chance for a reunion between SP Johan Santana and the New York Mets appears to be over. The Mets have signed both SP Daisuke Matsuzaka and SP John Lannan, plus SP Jenrry Mejia is expected to compete with those two for the final rotation spot.

SP | Ubaldo Jimenez | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy,
Denver Post beat writer Troy E. Renck indicates a reunion would not be likely between the Colorado Rockies and free-agent SP Ubaldo Jimenez (Indians). Renck points out the initial go-round with Jimenez and the Rockies ended in acrimony, and Jimenez is not likely to take a free-agent deal to pitch in a high altitude.

SP | Justin Masterson | Cleveland Indians | Transaction, Fantasy,
It appears discussions about a multi-year deal between the Cleveland Indians and SP Justin Masterson have been shelved for now, while the club and Masterson's agent work toward a one-year deal with or without the arbitration process. His arbitration hearing is set for Feb. 20. Masterson filed at $11.8 million, while the team countered at $8.05 million. It is the biggest difference of any unsigned player who filed for arbitration this winter.

SP | Matt Garza | Milwaukee Brewers | Fantasy,
Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza's $13 million option for the 2018 season will be guaranteed if he makes 110 starts during the next four years, pitches 155 innings in 2017 and is not on the disabled list at the end of the year. He'll make $12.5 million a year with $2 million deferred annually without interest. He can make an extra $1 million per year: $500,000 each for 30 starts and 190 innings.

SP | Kyle Gibson | Minnesota Twins | Fantasy,
Minnesota Twins SP Kyle Gibson will be one of half a dozen pitchers competing for a rotation spot this spring. "I feel like I've got a good idea what it takes to get guys out. ... I've got a sinker that can tie guys up. And amazingly, for seven of the 10 outings, my slider was terrible," Gibson said. "That was more me getting in my own way, and being too tense. Normally, I can throw a slider for a first-pitch strike, and I just couldn't do that. My slider will be better this year."

SP | Yu Darvish | Texas Rangers | Fantasy,
The Texas Rangers are prepared to approach SP Yu Darvish about a contract extension "at the right time," but they currently want him to prepare for the upcoming season. Darvish can opt out of the final year of his deal in 2017 if he wins the Cy Young Award in the next three years or finishes in the top four voting in two of the next three seasons.

Relief Pitcher

RP | Grant Balfour | Tampa Bay Rays | Fantasy,
Tampa Bay Rays CL Grant Balfour is due to earn $5 million in 2014 and $7 million in 2015, but there are clauses in the contract. Balfour's 2014 salary will come in the form of a $1 million signing bonus and a $4 million salary. He will receive an additional $500,000 if traded, and $2 million is deferred in each year of his contract.
