The Tampa Bay Rays acquired 2B Logan Forsythe, INF Maxx Tissenbaum and Ps Matt Andriese, Brad Boxberger and Matt Lollis from the San Diego Padres Wednesday, Jan. 22, in exchange for SP Alex Torres and P Jesse Hahn.

Third Baseman

3B | Ian Stewart | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Transaction, Free Agents, Fantasy
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim signed free-agent INF Ian Stewart (Cubs) to a minor-league deal Wednesday, Jan. 22, and the deal includes an invitation to spring training.

3B | Chone Figgins | Los Angeles Dodgers | Transaction
The Los Angeles Dodgers agreed with free-agent 3B Chone Figgins (Marlins) on a minor league deal with an invite to spring training Wednesday, Jan. 22.

3B | Matt Davidson | Chicago White Sox | Fantasy
Chicago White Sox 3B Matt Davidson will be squarely in the mix to win the starting third base job this spring. "We still have guys who can play there, but it's a competition, definitely," said manager Robin Ventura. "He has every reason to go in there and try to win the job." 3Bs Conor Gillaspie and Jeff Keppinger are in the mix for competition at the hot corner.

Outfielder

OF | Tyler Colvin | Baltimore Orioles | Transaction, Free Agents, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, while the Baltimore Orioles are stating there is a problem with the physical for free-agent OF Tyler Colvin (Rockies), one source said Wednesday, Jan. 22, that Colvin has been hitting throwing and working out five days a week in Arizona without any problems.

OF | Grady Sizemore | Boston Red Sox | Injury, Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
The Boston Red Sox view a healthy OF Grady Sizemore (knee) as competition for OF Jackie Bradley for the starting center fielder job. "This doesn't take Jackie out of the mix at all," manager John Farrell said Wednesday, Jan. 22. "There's questions that we have to answer in spring training with our roster, so the fact of Grady signing and being added to our roster doesn't remove Jackie from our club. I think one of the things that (general manager Ben Cherington) and all of us have set out to do is add to the depth of our team, and Grady certainly does that right now."

Sizemore still has a long way to go to prove his health before becoming a serious threat to Bradley. Right now, Bradley should be considered the replacement for Jacoby Ellsbury in center field, but obviously there is a lot to be determined during the spring.

OF | Justin Maxwell | Kansas City Royals | Fantasy
Kansas City Royals OF Justin Maxwell will earn $1.325 million as part of his one-year deal to avoid arbitration.

OF | Lucas Duda | New York Mets | Transaction, Fantasy
The New York Mets avoided arbitration with OF Lucas Duda Wednesday, Jan. 22, by agreeing to a one-year, $1.6375 million deal. Duda was asking for $1.9 million.

OF | Vernon Wells | free agent | Free Agents
The Miami Marlins have discussed the possibility of pursuing free-agent OF Vernon Wells this offseason.

Starting Pitcher

SP | Masahiro Tanaka | New York Yankees | Transaction, Free Agents,
The Arizona Diamondbacks were players for Japanese SP Masahiro Tanaka, who signed with the New York Yankeees. Tanaka was considered a special case, and just because there was money for him does not mean they will bite on the other available free agents. SPs Bronson Arroyo (Reds), Matt Garza (Rangers), Ubaldo Jimenez (Indians) or Ervin Santana (Royals) are out there still, but at current market prices, none appears high on the priority list for the Diamondbacks.

SP | Carlos Carrasco | Cleveland Indians | Fantasy,
Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona said SP Carlos Carrasco has raised his arm slot this year to add deception to his pitches.

SP | Jason Hammel | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy,
The Chicago Cubs could still look to add to their stable of starting pitchers, but they've made it clear they won't go for one of the big remaining free-agent pitchers on the market, including free-agent SP Matt Garza (Rangers). Ps Justin Grimm, Kyle Hendricks and Chris Rusin could be candidates to compete for a rotation spot if nobody else is added. The Cubs also will not re-sign Scott Baker. Free-agent SPs Paul Maholm (Braves) and Jason Hammel (Orioles) have been linked to Chicago.

SP | Alex Torres | San Diego Padres | Transaction, Fantasy,
The Tampa Bay Rays acquired 2B Logan Forsythe, INF Maxx Tissenbaum and Ps Matt Andriese, Brad Boxberger and Matt Lollis from the San Diego Padres Wednesday, Jan. 22, in exchange for SP Alex Torres and P Jesse Hahn.

Relief Pitcher

RP | Brad Boxberger | Tampa Bay Rays | Transaction, Fantasy,
The Tampa Bay Rays acquired 2B Logan Forsythe, INF Maxx Tissenbaum and Ps Matt Andriese, Brad Boxberger and Matt Lollis from the San Diego Padres Wednesday, Jan. 22, in exchange for SP Alex Torres and P Jesse Hahn.

RP | David Robertson | New York Yankees | Fantasy,
New York Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner said RP David Robertson will be the team's closer this season. "Robertson is going to be our closer, and I believe he will do a good job. We have done a lot to improve our team and we just have to understand that you cannot be perfect everywhere," Steinbrenner said.

Robertson should be drafted in all leagues this offseason but could be a risk because he does not have much experience in the role. The team could also add another relief pitcher as a backup plan at the position.
