San Francisco Giants 3B Pablo Sandoval said he has lost 42 pounds so far this offseason, and he's playing in the Venezuelan Winter League playoffs. Sandoval ballooned up to 280 pounds last year while dealing with a foot injury that put him on the disabled list. He's entering the final year of his three-year, $17.15 million deal, and general manager Brian Sabean is open to discussing a contract extension this spring.


C | Rod Barajas | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
Although veteran C Rod Barajas has not ruled out a return to the diamond for 2014, sources indicate he has agreed to manage the San Diego Padres' Rookie League team in Arizona. Barajas last played with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2013.

C | Matt Wieters | Baltimore Orioles | Fantasy
Baltimore Orioles C Matt Wieters is not worried about a big payday via a contract extension at this point, as he has taken a stance that the extension will happen if it is meant to be. "It's not a big worry for me. I think in years past it's taken a little more of my thoughts than this year," Wieters said. Wieters made $5.5 million via arbitration in 2013 and stands to collect near $8 million in 2014 if his case is granted.

Starting Pitcher

A new deal for Kershaw would include an opt-out clause that would allow him to become a free agent after five years.

Rumors that the New York Mets had signed SP Daisuke Matsuzaka turned out to be incorrect, but the team could still sign Matsuzaka to a minor league contract, according to team sources. However, Holland's recovery may not be as long because his injured cartilage was behind the knee cap and not to a weight-bearing bone like Feldman's.
