First Baseman

1B | Joey Votto | Cincinnati Reds | Fantasy
Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto led the National League, and was second in the majors, seeing 655 fastballs with runners on base last season.

1B | Mike Napoli | Boston Red Sox | Transaction, Fantasy
Boston Red Sox 1B Mike Napoli saw 667 fastballs with runners on base last season, the most in baseball. Teammate 2B Dustin Pedroia was third in baseball with 640 fastballs seen with runners on base in 2013.

1B | Aubrey Huff | Retired Players | Transaction, Free Agents, Fantasy
Free-agent INF Aubrey Huff (Giants) has announced his retirement and will pursue a broadcasting career with the Pac-12 Network.

1B | James Loney | Tampa Bay Rays | Fantasy
Tampa Bay Rays 1B James Loney will make $1 million next year, $7 million in 2015 and $8 million in 2016 as part of his three-year deal. He received a $5 million signing bonus.

Second Baseman

2B | Dustin Pedroia | Boston Red Sox | Injury, Fantasy
Boston Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia (thumb) said Sunday, Jan. 5, that his rehab from thumb surgery is going well.

2B | Eddie Rosario | Minnesota Twins | Transaction, Fantasy
Contrary to a previous report, Minnesota Twins 2B Eddie Rosario was given a 50-game suspension for his second offense of recreational drug use. The suspension was not 100 games because it was not a performance-enhancing drug offense.

Shortstop

SS | Stephen Drew | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
The New York Mets front office is divided on how to approach SS Stephen Drew. The team would be more willing to consider a one- or two-year deal for Drew at the right monetary figure, while likely being averse to anything three years or beyond. But if Drew were to accept a shorter-term deal, the feeling is that he ultimately would just return to the Boston Red Sox. There is some belief within the Mets organization that agent Scott Boras partly is engaging the Mets in order to maximize the terms with Boston.

Third Baseman

3B | Chase Headley | San Diego Padres | Fantasy
Provided the conditions are correct, San Diego Padres 3B Chase Headley is interested in staying with the club past his one-year deal in 2014. "I don't want to draw a line in the sand," Headley said when reached via phone from his home in Tennessee. "We have time. I'm not saying something will get done, but I'm saying it can happen. Anything can happen." The Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees have been mentioned as potential destinations in a worst-case trade scenario.

Catcher

C | A.J. Pierzynski | Boston Red Sox | Fantasy
Boston Red Sox C A.J. Pierzynski chased more pitches out of the strike zone last season (46.5 percent) than any other hitter in the league. Also, no batter swung at a higher percentage of pitches (60.2 percent) than Pierzynski.

Outfielder

OF | Mike Trout | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Fantasy,
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are likely to exceed the $189 million payroll threshold that triggers the luxury tax. According to sources, the team's wiggle room is down to between $13 million and $15 million, depending on how much players earn in performance bonuses. FOX Sports columnist Ken Rosenthal speculates if the Angels sign either SP Masahiro Tanaka or Matt Garza or sign OF Mike Trout to a long-term deal, then that would wipe out the savings.

OF | Daniel Nava | Boston Red Sox | Transaction, Fantasy
The Boston Red Sox do not believe they can carry another outfielder, but they have expressed some interest in San Diego Padres OF Chris Denorfia. The team might be able to add Denorfia if they are able to deal 1B/OF Mike Carp or OF Daniel Nava.

OF | Matt Kemp | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Fantasy
Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said OF Matt Kemp (ankle, shoulder) is coming along well in his rehab from ankle surgery and a shoulder injury. "His upper body is strong, he's jogging and getting comfortable with his lower half," Colletti said.

OF | Marcell Ozuna | Miami Marlins | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Miami Marlins OF Marcell Ozuna is the front-runner to win the starting job in center field. OF Jake Marisnick is expected to start the year at Triple-A New Orleans rather than coming off the bench.

OF | Scott Podsednik | free agent | Transaction, Free Agents, Fantasy
Free-agent OF Scott Podsednik (Red Sox) is interested in playing again after sitting out the 2013 season, and he would welcome an opportunity with the Boston Red Sox if there were a mutual fit. He has been working out and staying in shape, according to his agent, and he'll consider playing if he finds the right opportunity.

OF | Oscar Taveras | St. Louis Cardinals | Injury
St. Louis Cardinals OF Oscar Taveras (ankle) and SP Jaime Garcia (shoulder) are expected to be ready for the start of spring training games with few, if any, restrictions.

OF | Grady Sizemore | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
The Cincinnati Reds are considering signing free-agent OF Grady Sizemore (Indians), according to general manager Walt Jocketty.

Starting Pitcher

SP | David Price | Tampa Bay Rays | Fantasy
Sources indicate the Tampa Bay Rays will open the 2014 season with a payroll higher than the $72.8 million payroll the Rays posted in 2010, which was the previous record. This would indicate the Rays will stick with SP David Price for at least the start of the 2014 campaign. "We feel like we have a really good chance to be great next year. That's why we're doing what we're doing," Rays vice president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said.

SP | Bronson Arroyo | free agent | Free Agents, Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy,
The Minnesota Twins are still very high on free-agent SP Bronson Arroyo (Reds), but it is uncertain what the veteran pitcher would accept and how much the team has left to spend after adding SPs Phil Hughes, Ricky Nolasco and Mike Pelfrey during the offseason.

Relief Pitcher

RP | Joel Hanrahan | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy,
Free-agent RP Joel Hanrahan will work out for teams in spring training. Hanrahan is currently throwing off a mound, earlier than anticipated. He had season-ending surgery on his elbow in May and has attracted attention from clubs wishing to see him work out.

RP | J.J. Putz | Arizona Diamondbacks | Fantasy,
The Arizona Diamondbacks may look to trade RP J.J. Putz because they added RP Addison Reed earlier this offseason. Putz is scheduled to make $7 million and the team likely would look for player with a comparable salary in any trade.

RP | Jason Motte | St. Louis Cardinals | Injury,
St. Louis Cardinals RP Jason Motte (elbow) said he plans to report to the team's spring training facility three weeks before pitchers are scheduled to report. Motte said he was throwing bullpen sessions in November and started 50 percent effort and moved to 75 percent effort by the end of the sessions. He said he does not know a specific timetable for his return but is working towards pitching in games by mid-March.

RP | Jesse Crain | Houston Astros | Fantasy,
Houston Astros RP Jesse Crain will make $3.25 million as part of his one-year deal.
