What kind of fantasy value can be found in the Rams' backfield?

by KFFL Staff on September 23, 2013 @ 15:14:54 PDT

QB | Blaine Gabbert | Jacksonville Jaguars | Injury, Fantasy
Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley said QB Blaine Gabbert (hand) will be the team's Week 4 game.

QB | Brandon Weeden | Cleveland Browns | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Cleveland Browns QB Brandon Weeden (thumb) has a good chance to practice this week. The hand specialist told Weeden his sprained thumb is healing nicely.

QB | Josh Freeman | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano confirmed that QB Josh Freeman is still the team's starting quarterback and will get the start in Week 4.

QB | Ryan Tannehill | Miami Dolphins | Fantasy
Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said QB Ryan Tannehill needs to do a better job with ball security.

Running Back

RB | Ray Rice | Baltimore Ravens | Injury, Fantasy
Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said RB Ray Rice (hip) has a chance to play Week 4.

Owners will have to monitor his practice participation this week to get a better idea of his status for the game. If he does play, he should be in the starting lineup but may be more like a No. 2 running back because he could lose some carries to Bernard Pierce.

RB | Ahmad Bradshaw | Indianapolis Colts | Fantasy
Indianapolis Colts RB Ahmad Bradshaw said he expects to create a productive tandem with RB Trent Richardson this season. "Me and Trent are going to be a two-headed monster. They made a business decision and it was a great decision. Trent is an excellent player and it's going to work out for both of us, two great running backs," Bradshaw said.

RB | Reggie Bush | Detroit Lions | Injury, Fantasy
Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz is non-committal on the status of RB Reggie Bush (knee) for the team's Week 4 against the Chicago Bears. Bush said he feels fine and would have played in Week 3 against the Washington Redskins if it were a playoff game. RB Joique Bell had 63 rushing yards and a touchdown and added four catches for 69 yards against the 'Skins. RB Theo Riddick also saw some action out of the backfield.

Monitor Bush's status this week in practice. If he plays Sunday, he's a must-start.

RB | Mark Ingram | New Orleans Saints | Fantasy
New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton said there is no truth to the rumor that RB Mark Ingram is looking for a trade.

RB | Willis McGahee | Cleveland Browns | Fantasy
Cleveland Browns RB Willis McGahee rushed eight times for 9 yards in Week 3.

No other running back had more than four carries. McGahee's workload should increase with a full week of practice. However, the impact he can have is in question. He's a bye-week fill-in right now.

RB | Isaiah Pead | St. Louis Rams | Injury, Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
St. Louis Rams RBs Isaiah Pead and Benny Cunningham split the carries in the Week 3 game against the Dallas Cowboys with RB Daryl Richardson (foot) leaving the game after just one play. However, neither Pead nor Cunningham did much. Pead carried six times for 20 yards, while adding seven receptions and 43 yards. Cunningham had four carries for 16 yards, while adding one catch for six yards.

It's uncertain if Richardson will be ready to go in Week 4. If not, Pead, Cunningham and perhaps rookie Zac Stacy could be in line for more work.

RB | Brandon Bolden | New England Patriots | Injury, Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
New England Patriots RB Brandon Bolden (knee) made his regular season debut in Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he played more than 25 snaps. He was used in a three-man rotation at tailback with RBs LeGarrette Blount and Stevan Ridley. Blount led the team with 65 yards on 14 carries, while Bolden exploded for 51 yards on three totes, while adding five receptions and 49 yards. Ridley did little, going for just 35 yards in 11 runs.

The situation was difficult enough to figure out before Bolden's arrival, but now fantasy owners have three RBs to sift through on the New England depth chart.

RB | Chris Ivory | New York Jets | Injury, Fantasy
New York Jets RB Chris Ivory (hamstring) left the Week 3 game against the Buffalo Bills due to a hamstring injury.

RB | Shaun Draughn | Baltimore Ravens | Injury, Fantasy
Baltimore Ravens RB Shaun Draughn (ankle) left the Week 3 game against the Houston Texans due to a high ankle sprain. "I don't know the severity of it, but it's termed right now as a high ankle," head coach John Harbaugh said Sunday, Sept. 22.

Wide Receiver

WR | Dwayne Harris | Dallas Cowboys | Injury, Fantasy
Dallas Cowboys WR Dwayne Harris (hip) injured his hip in the first half of the team's Week 3 game and was replaced by WR Cole Beasley.

WR | Nate Washington | Tennessee Titans | Fantasy
Tennessee Titans WR Nate Washington caught eight passes for a career-high 131 yards in the team's Week 3 victory over the San Diego Chargers. "Nate just balled out - that's all you can say," WR Kendall Wright said. "He's a captain and he kept leading us, by example and vocally. When you get a vet like that who's been in the game a long time, you listen to him because he's one of the hardest-working guys out there." Offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains said QB Jake Locker believes in Washington.

Washington has taken advantage of the opportunity that Kenny Britt's poor play has given him, and he's running with it. Washington should see plenty of looks from Locker now, making him a smart waiver wire pickup this week.

WR | Vincent Jackson | Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Injury, Fantasy
Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Vincent Jackson's (rib) rib injury is not considered serious, and he is considered day-to-day at this point.

Owners will have to monitor his practice participation this week to get a good idea about his Week 4 availability.

WR | Greg Little | Cleveland Browns | Fantasy
Updating a previous item, Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski said the team has no plans to trade WR Greg Little this year.

WR | Jacoby Jones | Baltimore Ravens | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Kennard McGuire, agent for Baltimore Ravens WR Jacoby Jones (head, knee), said contrary to earlier reports, Jones is fine and is back at practice Monday, Sept. 23, with his regular rehab routine.

WR | Miles Austin | Dallas Cowboys | Injury, Fantasy
The Dallas Cowboys do not believe WR Miles Austin's (hamstring) injury is as serious as previous hamstring injuries. The team will see how he feels Wednesday, Sept. 25, before determining if he will practice.

Obviously something to keep an eye on as the week progresses, although at this point, there is nothing to suggest Austin will not be available for Week 4.

WR | Cecil Shorts | Jacksonville Jaguars | Fantasy
Jacksonville Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts had eight catches for 143 yards in Week 3.

He led all receivers with the effort. With Justin Blackmon's return from suspension looming, Shorts could benefit upon his return. He remains a bye-week fill-in for now.

WR | Andre Johnson | Houston Texans | Injury, Fantasy
Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson (shin) is scheduled to have an MRI Monday, Sept. 23, on his bruised shin. He was kicked in the shin in the Week 3 game against the Baltimore Ravens. He attempted to return in the second half after X-rays at halftime came back negative, but he did not remain in the game for long. "I watched him the first play, we threw the ball the first play, and I wanted to see him run," head coach Gary Kubiak said. "I did not think he could run the way he needs to...so we took him out."

Johnson should be fine to play in Week 4, but this is just another reminder that he's very injury-prone. That won't change now that he's on the wrong side of 30. It's tough to keep DeAndre Hopkins out of your starting lineups.

WR | Steve Smith | Carolina Panthers | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith (hip) left the Week 3 game against the Chicago Bears briefly due to a hip injury. He came down hard on his hip on a catch attempt, but was able to return. He finished with 40 yards on three receptions, and he was targeted seven times.

Smith and the Panthers have a bye in Week 4, so you'll need to make alternate plans for your WR2 or flex spot.

WR | Hakeem Nicks | New York Giants | Fantasy
New York Giants WR Hakeem Nicks did not have any receptions in Week 3 against the Carolina Panthers, and he was targeted just once.

Nicks is believed to be healthy, and it was just one of those days for the team's offense. New York was shutout 38-0 on the road against Carolina. Things will not get much easier in Week 4, as the Giants will hit the road again to play the unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs.

WR | Josh Gordon | Cleveland Browns | Fantasy
Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon made his regular season debut in Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings, posting 10 receptions for 146 yards and a score. Gordon was targeted a whopping 19 times in the victory.

Don't get too carried away and overvalue Gordon heading into Week 4, as the quarterback situation in Cleveland is still shaky. However, Gordon can be used as a low-end WR2 or must-start WR3 or flex option in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams.

WR | Eddie Royal | San Diego Chargers | Fantasy
San Diego Chargers WR Eddie Royal posted just two receptions for 34 yards in Week 3 against the Tennessee Titans, and he was targeted just two times.

Royal was one of the most popular waiver wire additions this past week, and people reluctantly grabbed him despite skepticism he could keep up his torrid pace. The doubters turned out to be prophecies, as he came up with a goose egg for his new fantasy owners in this one.

Tight End

TE | Marcedes Lewis | Jacksonville Jaguars | Injury, Fantasy
Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley said chances are getting better for TE Marcedes Lewis (calf) to play because the most recent MRI on his calf only shows scar tissue.

TE | Vernon Davis | San Francisco 49ers | Injury, Fantasy
San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said the team will continue to evaluate TE Vernon Davis (hamstring) this week and is not sure if Davis will be able to play Week 4.

The team plays on Thursday this week, so Davis will not have a lot of time to prepare for the game. Owners should watch out for the inactive list when it comes out to see if he plays, and, if he does play, he would be a risky fantasy starter because of the injury.

TE | Fred Davis | Washington Redskins | Injury, , Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins TE Fred Davis (ankle) tested his sprained ankle before the Week 3 game against the Detroit Lions, but he moved gingerly even when walking and was declared inactive.

TE | Jordan Reed | Washington Redskins | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed (quadriceps) left the Week 3 game against the Detroit Lions due to a quadriceps contusion. He was hit in the leg by a defensive player's helmet. "It's real frustrating I couldn't keep playing," Reed said Sunday, Sept. 22. "I've got to come in (Monday) and see what kind of treatment I need."

TE | Jermichael Finley | Green Bay Packers | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, the Green Bay Packers reported after the Week 3 game against the Cincinnati Bengals that TE Jermichael Finley (concussion) suffered a concussion.

The good news for Finley and his fantasy owners is that the team has a bye in Week 4, so he'll have two full weeks to get back to pass the league's concussion protocol testing and get back to 100 percent.

TE | Heath Miller | Pittsburgh Steelers | Injury, Fantasy
Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller (knee) is active for the Week 3 game against the Chicago Bears, and he will make his regular season debut.

Place Kicker

PK | Billy Cundiff | Cleveland Browns | Injury, Fantasy
Cleveland Browns PK Billy Cundiff (quadriceps) said his goal is to kick in the team's Week 4 game. Cundiff said he feels better Monday, Sept. 23, and is optimistic about his chances to play.
