"I know he hasn't done a heck of a lot, but he's one of those guys who can wake up on a cold day with snow out there and get a base hit," manager Ron Washington said.

Berkman won't see enough action in the final week to justify keeping him around on your roster. Texas is unlikely to carry him on their playoff roster, too, if he continues to battle injuries.

Wheeler has thrown 168 2/3 innings this season and 100 in 17 starts at the major league level. He allowed four runs in five innings while walking a career-high six against the San Francisco Giants Tuesday, Sept. 17. His next start will likely come against the Cincinnati Reds Monday, Sept. 23.

Washington Nationals SP Ross Detwiler (back) is unlikely to return this season with only 11 games remaining in the regular season. Detwiler threw three innings during a bullpen session Tuesday, Sept. 17, and will pitch in the instructional league Monday, Sept. 23. "If that's the plan, he might as well stay down there," manager Davey Johnson said. "I don't see it. If he gets four days off, there will only be one or two games left. I don't see the point in coming out just for one game for us. That's going to be a decision made down the road." Detwiler hasn't pitched since July 3.
