The Toronto Blue Jays placed 3B Edwin Encarnacion (wrist) and P Brett Cecil (elbow) on the disabled list for the rest of the season Tuesday, Sept. 17. Encarnacion will have surgery on his left wrist later this week to repair cartilage.

Encarnacion had just come back from the same injury, but it's just not right, so he'll get it fixed for next season. This is just a reminder that you can safely drop him for the final stretch.

Second Baseman

However, he's hit only .221 with three homers and a .658 OPS in the second half of the season, showing signs of fatigue. "Staying locked in for six months in a row becomes harder as you get older," he said. "But the physical part, I feel like I can play this game physically for a while, I guess. That doesn't mean that I will. But I still feel like I can."

The Arizona Diamondbacks are expected to discuss a long-term contract extension with OF Gerardo Parra in the offseason.
