First Baseman

1B | Allen Craig | St. Louis Cardinals | Injury, Fantasy
St. Louis Cardinals 1B Allen Craig (foot) still has no timetable to return from his sprained left foot.

Don't drop him, but just realize that you may not get any stats from him if the Cardinals elect to save him for a postseason run.

1B | Edwin Encarnacion | Toronto Blue Jays | Injury, Fantasy
Toronto Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion (wrist) remained sidelined Tuesday, Sept. 10, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim due to a sore left wrist. He has not played since Saturday, Sept. 7. "Eddy's still a little banged up; his wrist is hurting today," manager John Gibbons said. He remains day to day.

1B | Lance Berkman | Texas Rangers | Injury, Fantasy
Texas Rangers 1B Lance Berkman (hip) still is unable to take batting practice from the right side due to inflammation in his left hip. "He can't hit on the right side," manager Ron Washington said Tuesday, Sept. 10. "It's not even an option."

1B | Ryan Howard | Philadelphia Phillies | Injury, Fantasy
Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard (knee) has been rehabbing at the team's spring training facility in Clearwater, Fla., and he has reportedly made good progress. He will head to Florida instructional league to continue his recovery. "He's really getting into shape," interim manager Ryne Sandberg said Tuesday, Sept. 10. "He's lost some weight and he seems to be going about it great. He's taken to it well, preparing himself to play in Instructional League games. All reports are thing are going well for him."

Howard is expected to be ready for spring training, but fantasy owners will want to think long and hard about drafting him. That's now two seasons in a row where he has had a difficult time staying healthy.

1B | Tommy Medica | San Diego Padres | Transaction
The San Diego Padres recalled 1B Tommy Medica from Double-A San Antonio Tuesday, Sept. 10.

1B | Ike Davis | New York Mets | Injury, Transaction, Fantasy,
The New York Mets placed RP Scott Rice (hernia) on the 15-day disabled list and moved 1B Ike Davis (oblique) to the 60-day disabled list Monday, Sept. 9.

Second Baseman

2B | Robinson Cano | New York Yankees | Fantasy
The New York Yankees want to re-sign 2B Robinson Cano, but they don't see him as a player they need to re-sign at all costs, according to president Randy Levine.

2B | Justin Turner | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy
New York Mets 2B Justin Turner (hamstring) left the game Tuesday, Sept. 10, against the Washington Nationals due to right hamstring tightness.

2B | Dustin Pedroia | Boston Red Sox | Fantasy
Boston Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia will hit leadoff in the absence of OF Jacoby Ellsbury (foot), allowing OF Shane Victorino to hit second and DH David Ortiz to man the third spot in the order. Pedroia hasn't hit leadoff since the 2009 season, but isn't worried it will change his game at all.

2B | Wilmer Flores | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy
New York Mets 3B Wilmer Flores (ankles) is out of the lineup Tuesday, Sept. 10.

2B | Howie Kendrick | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Injury, Fantasy
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 2B Howie Kendrick (knee) will not return to the lineup until Friday, Sept. 13, because the team wants to keep him off the turf against the Toronto Blue Jays. He did more running Tuesday, Sept. 10, and his left knee is 100 percent healthy.

SS | Brendan Ryan | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy
New York Yankees SS Brendan Ryan is expected to start at shortstop over SS Eduardo Nunez with SS Derek Jeter (ankle) sidelined. Ryan gives the team a much more steady glove at the position. The move could also suggest that the Yanks don't expect Jeter to return this season. "He's still in a holding pattern," manager Joe Girardi said about Jeter. "He's not going to be out on the field today. I don't know if that means he's available to me in an emergency, but he's not going to do anything today."

Ryan has a very weak bat, so it isn't wise to rely on him, even in AL-only leagues, at the shortstop position.

SS | Zack Cozart | Cincinnati Reds | Fantasy
Cincinnati Reds SS Zack Cozart extended his hitting streak to 15 games Tuesday, Sept. 10, with a seventh-inning double against the Chicago Cubs.

SS | Elvis Andrus | Texas Rangers | Fantasy
Texas Rangers SS Elvis Andrus posted two stolen bases Monday, Sept. 9, to give him 162 for his career. He passed former INF Bump Wills for second most in franchise history. He is just eight behind 2B Ian Kinsler for the all-time franchise league.

SS | Jurickson Profar | Texas Rangers | Fantasy
Texas Rangers SS Jurickson Profar is a switch hitter, but he has struggled against left-handed pitching at the major league level. He is hitting .258 against right-handed pitching, but just .194 against left-handed pitching. "He's been successful as a switch hitter, but it's tough to keep it going form both sides at the Major League level," manager Ron Washington said Tuesday, Sept. 10.

SS | Jhonny Peralta | Detroit Tigers | Fantasy
Detroit Tigers suspended SS Jhonny Peralta will work out with the team this week. No decision has been made on whether to activate him, though. Peralta is eligible to return Sept. 27 for the team's final three regular season games.

SS | Ruben Tejada | New York Mets | Fantasy
New York Mets SS Ruben Tejada will be the primary shortstop for the remainder of the season after being called up from the minors, although he won't start Tuesday, Sept. 10. The team is likely to explore other options at shortstop this offseason, though, and Tejada will be arbitration-eligible for the first time with a salary less than $1 million in 2014. Tejada hit .288 with two home runs and 24 RBIs in 269 plate appearances for Triple-A Buffalo this year.

The club was disappointed with Tejada's work ethic this year, so he'll have to prove himself in the final few weeks in order to stick around. He's an option in NL-only leagues only, and Omar Quintanilla loses any little value he had.

Third Baseman

3B | Chris D. Johnson | Atlanta Braves | Fantasy
Atlanta Braves 3B Chris D. Johnson had two hits and an RBI on Tuesday, Sept. 10, in a 4-3 win over the Miami Marlins. It was Johnson's 46th multi-hit game of the season.

3B | Luis Jimenez | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Injury, Fantasy

New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez (hamstring) had his left hamstring tighten up Tuesday, Sept. 10, against the Baltimore Orioles. Manager Joe Girardi said Rodriguez might be able to serve as the designated hitter Wednesday, Sept. 11.

3B | Josh Donaldson | Oakland Athletics | Injury, Fantasy
Oakland Athletics 3B Josh Donaldson (quadriceps) is back in the lineup Tuesday, Sept. 10, after missing one game with soreness in his right quadriceps.

C | Cameron Rupp | Philadelphia Phillies | Fantasy
Philadelphia Phillies C Cameron Rupp was rewarded with his first major league start in the game Tuesday, Sept. 10, against the San Diego Padres. "I'm anxious to see where he's at," interim manager Ryne Sandberg said. "I haven't seen him catch at all. It'll be the first time. I know that he's come a long way and he's developed a lot, so I'm anxious to see him work behind the plate and swing the bat."

C | Joe Mauer | Minnesota Twins | Injury, Fantasy
The Minnesota Twins are hopeful that C Joe Mauer (concussion) can return during their current homestand, but there is still no timetable for his return to action.

C | Jarrod Saltalamacchia | Boston Red Sox | Injury, Fantasy
Boston Red Sox C Jarrod Saltalamacchia (back) is returning to the lineup Tuesday, Sept. 10, although he's unlikely to play more than back-to-back games just yet because he still has some lower back soreness.

C | Carlos Corporan | Houston Astros | Injury, Transaction
The Houston Astros activated C Carlos Corporan (concussion) from the 15-day disabled list Monday, Sept. 9.

OF | Shin-Soo Choo | Cincinnati Reds | Free Agents, Fantasy
Indications from rival executives and a pair of New York Mets officials are that the team will be very interested in Cincinnati Reds OF Shin-Soo Choo. One Mets official said general manager Sandy Alderson and his staff aren't particularly interested in entering an aggressive bidding war over the 31-year-old Scott Boras client. Choo would shift to right field if obtained by the Mets, in order to keep OF Juan Lagares in center field.

OF | Matt Kemp | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Fantasy
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Tuesday, Sept. 10, that he now expects OF Matt Kemp (ankle) to play games before the end of the regular season.

OF | Peter Bourjos | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Peter Bourjos (wrist) will need eight weeks without baseball activities after having successful surgery on his right wrist Tuesday, Sept. 10. He had a small screw inserted into his wrist.

OF | Jim Adduci | Texas Rangers | Injury, Fantasy
Texas Rangers OF Jim Adduci (shoulder) was feeling much better Tuesday, Sept. 10, just one day after leaving the game due to a strained muscle in his right shoulder. He did not start due to a left-hander on the hill, but he was available off the bench.

OF | Nelson Cruz | Texas Rangers | Fantasy
The Texas Rangers are reportedly undecided if OF Nelson Cruz will be on the roster if they reach the postseason, but he is likely a good fit for a team in need of a left fielder or designated hitter. He is eligible to return when the regular season is over.

OF | Ben Revere | Philadelphia Phillies | Injury, Fantasy
Philadelphia Phillies OF Ben Revere (ankle) is headed to Florida instructional league, as he continues to make his way back from right ankle surgery in August.

OF | Denard Span | Washington Nationals | Fantasy
Washington Nationals OF Denard Span is taking a career-high 20-game hitting streak into Tuesday, Sept. 10, and he's batting .410 with seven extra-base hits, two home runs and five walks during that time. Manager Davey Johnson said Span has been more aggressive lately and more relaxed at the plate. Span's season turned around for the better when hitting coach Rick Schu was brought in in late July. He's also swinging less each day before on-field batting practice, which has kept him fresh. "After (former hitting coach Rick Eckstein) left, Tony told me a few things he had seen over the previous months - and Rick came and kind of developed a routine for me and I've just been sticking to it," Span said. "This is probably the least amount I've swung all year."

Span is hot and comfortable at the dish. You might want to ride him while you can in deep mixed formats.

OF | Jackie Bradley | Boston Red Sox | Fantasy
Boston Red Sox OF Jackie Bradley isn't in the lineup against a tough lefty Tuesday, Sept. 10, but manager John Farrell said Bradley "is going to be in the mix" to replace OF Jacoby Ellsbury (foot) in certain matchups. OF Shane Victorino is starting in center field Tuesday, with OFs Jonny Gomes and Daniel Nava manning the corners.

Bradley may be a candidate in cavernous mixed formats if you're looking for a stolen base boost. However, Bradley is probably best left to AL-only formats since he won't be playing every day.

OF | Bryce Harper | Washington Nationals | Injury, Fantasy
Washington Nationals OF Bryce Harper (hip) was launching home runs in batting practice Tuesday, Sept. 10, and the team expects him to return Wednesday, Sept. 11. "He can run around, take batting practice, stuff like that," manager Davey Johnson said. "If he can do that, that would be good for him and his cause to play tomorrow."

OF | Reed Johnson | Atlanta Braves | Injury, Transaction
The Atlanta Braves activated OF Reed Johnson (Achilles') from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, Sept. 10.

OF | Colby Rasmus | Toronto Blue Jays | Injury, Fantasy

Starting Pitcher

SP | Clay Buchholz | Boston Red Sox | Injury, Fantasy
Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz (shoulder) pitched five scoreless innings in his win over the Tampa Bay Rays Tuesday, Sept. 10, in his first game back from the disabled list. He gave up just three singles, a walk and struck out six in 74 pitches. "In time he'll have more, but with the increase in intensity, we didn't want to jump the intensity, plus another 15 pitches," manager John Farrell said. "That might have been a little much the first time back." Buchholz hit 93 mph with his fastball, too.

SP | Tyler Thornburg | Milwaukee Brewers | Fantasy,
The Milwaukee Brewers are going with a six-man rotation for the rest of the year to get an extended look at SPs Tyler Thornburg and Johnny Hellweg. Hellweg was the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Year at Triple-A Nashville.

SP | Edwin Jackson | Chicago Cubs | Fantasy,
Chicago Cubs SP Edwin Jackson threw seven innings of one-run ball and smacked his second career home run to lead the Cubs in a 9-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park on Tuesday, Sept. 10. SP | Tom Koehler | Miami Marlins | Fantasy,

SP | Matt Harvey | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy,
New York Mets SP Matt Harvey (elbow) is optimistic that he'll avoid Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, but he still has yet to see Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion. Harvey has been shut down for the rest of the year with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament. He has yet to undergo a second MRI exam. "Everything feels fine. My arm feels great," Harvey said. "I'm still very optimistic about everything. But I'm not a doctor, so we'll see what happens." He's only icing his elbow and riding a bike lately.

You can obviously drop Harvey from your roster in single-year formats, if you haven't already. Keeper leaguers that own him have a much more difficult decision that will depend on whether he undergoes surgery. Stay tuned.

RP | Bobby Parnell | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy,
New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (neck) is expected to be ready for the start of spring training next year after he undergoes surgery to fix a herniated disc in his neck Tuesday, Sept. 17.
