The New York Mets placed RP Scott Rice (hernia) on the 15-day disabled list and moved 1B Ike Davis (oblique) to the 60-day disabled list Monday, Sept. 9.
1B | Jason Giambi | Cleveland Indians | Fantasy
Cleveland Indians DH Jason Giambi said he would like to return next year for another season. "I love it here," he said. "I like the direction we're going." Giambi joked about recording his 2,000th hit Sunday, Sept. 8, saying, "It's a good accomplishment considering I can't run. It's more like 4,000."
1B | Tyler Moore | Washington Nationals | Injury, Fantasy
Washington Nationals OF Bryce Harper (hip) will miss the next two games with inflammation in his left hip, according to a baseball source. OFs Corey Brown or Tyler Moore will replace Harper in left field.
Harper has dealt with nagging injuries all season long that have kept him from reaching his true potential. If this is something that doesn't go away soon, don't be surprised if the Nats shut him down for the final couple of weeks.
2B | Howie Kendrick | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Injury, Transaction, Fantasy
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim activated 2B Howie Kendrick (knee) from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, Sept. 10.
Get Kendrick back into your starting lineups immediately.
2B | Wilmer Flores | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy
New York Mets 2B Wilmer Flores (ankle) is not at 100 percent, according to manager Terry Collins, but he is "playable." Flores returned to the lineup Monday, Sept. 9, against the Washington Nationals.
2B | Eduardo Escobar | Minnesota Twins | Injury, Transaction,
The Minnesota Twins recalled Ps Shairon Martis, Scott Diamond and Michael Tonkin, 2B Eduardo Escobar, OF Chris Parmelee and C Eric Fryer from the minors Monday, Sept. 9. In corresponding moves, SP Samuel Deduno (shoulder) and OF Wilkin Ramirez (leg) were moved to the 60-day disabled list.
SS | Ruben Tejada | New York Mets | Transaction,
The New York Mets recalled SS Ruben Tejada RP Greg Burke from Triple-A Las Vegas Monday, Sept. 9.
SS | Nick Franklin | Seattle Mariners | Injury, Fantasy
Seattle Mariners 2B Nick Franklin (head) returned to the lineup Monday, Sept. 9, against the Houston Astros. He batted ninth and was able to reach base twice.
SS | Derek Jeter | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy
New York Yankees SS Derek Jeter (ankle) will not be shut down for the rest of the year, according to general manager Brian Cashman. "Right now it's just a day-to-day thing," Cashman said. "It was a little sore the other day, something he wasn't really speaking to, but you could see the way he was moving around, so we pulled the plug on it." The team is still awaiting the news on Jeter's CT scan.
SS | Eduardo Nunez | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy
New York Yankees SS Derek Jeter (ankle) is out indefinitely after reinjuring his surgically repaired left ankle. "His ankle is a little sore, so we are probably going to give him a couple of days and make an evaluation," manager Joe Girardi said. Girardi isn't sure that Jeter will play again this year with only three weeks left in the season. SS Eduardo Nunez will play shortstop in Jeter's absence.
Don't rely on Jeter for the rest of the season. Nunez is a nice commodity in deep mixed leagues for the remainder of the year if Jeter does not return.
3B | Juan Uribe | Los Angeles Dodgers | Fantasy
Los Angeles Dodgers 3B Juan Uribe hit three solo home runs in a victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks Monday, Sept. 9.
3B | Miguel Cabrera | Detroit Tigers | Injury, Fantasy
Detroit Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera (abdomen) was in the lineup Monday, Sept. 9, against the Chicago White Sox, but he was ejected in the first inning for arguing a checked-swing strike. Manager Jim Leyland also got the gate.
The good news is that he did not leave the game due to injury. The bad news is that his one at-bat was almost like having the day off. He'll be back in there Tuesday.
3B | David Wright | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy
New York Mets 3B David Wright (hamstring) is still holding out hope that he will return this season. "I don't think the clock is going to run out," said Wright, who has been on the disabled list since Aug. 3 with a Grade 2 hamstring strain. "I think I'll be back at least for a larger chunk of the remainder of the games. That's kind of the goal, and I haven't really even thought about not playing those." He has done all baseball activities except for running the bases. Wright won't play in playoff games with Low Single-A Savannah this week, however.
Wright might return for the final week of the season, but that is purely speculation at this point. Don't get your hopes up.
3B | Alex Liddi | Baltimore Orioles | Transaction
Baltimore Orioles 3B Alex Liddi cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk Monday, Sept. 9.

OF | Jim Adduci | Texas Rangers | Injury, Fantasy

OF | Avisail Garcia | Chicago White Sox | Injury, Fantasy

OF | Jason Heyward | Atlanta Braves | Injury, Fantasy
Atlanta Braves OF Jason Heyward (jaw) had the restrictive braces and bands removed from his mouth Monday, Sept. 9, and will take batting practice Friday, Sept. 13. Heyward will wear a mouth guard during baseball activities, and he's been taking swings off a tee and doing conditioning drills in the past week. "I think we were cautiously optimistic that he would get back to baseball activity sometime in September," general manager Frank Wren said. "It's progressing as we hoped, and I know progressing as he hoped, because I think everybody has the goal for him - and I know he does - to try to get back for October. So we'll just continue to see how it progresses."
OF | Bryce Harper | Washington Nationals | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Washington Nationals OF Bryce Harper (hip) has no structural damage in his hip, and he'll rest for the next two days. After undergoing tests, the team is confident he'll be able to play out the rest of the year without risking further injury. "He's been playing with it off and on for the last week," manager Davey Johnson said. "They were treating it last week as a sprain. A sprain, you just give it ultrasound and massage and hopefully you get by it. So this may be even better that we know it's inflammation. They can correct that with medication. So it might be perfect."
With Washington out of playoff contention, it seems as though Harper's injury isn't serious enough to have the team shut him down for the final three weeks. He could still elect to have surgery in the offseason to prevent the same situation from recurring next season, though.
OF | Michael Brantley | Cleveland Indians | Fantasy
Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley is back in the lineup Monday, Sept. 9, after missing time to witness the birth of his first child.
OF | Giancarlo Stanton | Miami Marlins | Injury, Fantasy
Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton (ankle) is out of the lineup Monday, Sept. 9.
OF | Mike Baxter | New York Mets | Transaction,
The New York Mets recalled SP Aaron Harang, OF Mike Baxter and C Juan Centeno from the minors Monday, Sept. 9.
OF | Jacoby Ellsbury | Boston Red Sox | Injury, Fantasy
Boston Red Sox OF Jacoby Ellsbury (foot) is dealing with a compression fracture of the navicular bone in his right foot, but the fracture is a tiny hairline fracture at the top of his foot, and he could return within 10 days and no later than the final week of the regular season. It's a non-displaced fracture, and Ellsbury will be in a boot for a minimum of five days.
SP | Clay Buchholz | Boston Red Sox | Injury, Transaction, Fantasy,
The Boston Red Sox officially activated SP Clay Buchholz (shoulder) from the 60-day disabled list Tuesday, Sept. 10.
Buchholz will return to the rotation and make the start Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays. He needs to be owned in all formats despite missing a large period of time. Assuming he's completely healthy the rest of the season, he could be a nice boost to your pitching staff.
SP | Ricky Nolasco | Los Angeles Dodgers | Fantasy,
Los Angeles Dodgers SP Ricky Nolasco is now 3-0 with a 1.25 ERA in three starts against the Arizona Diamondbacks this year, and he's given up fewer than two earned runs in 10 of his 12 starts since being traded to the Dodgers. He's 8-1 with a 2.19 ERA in that time.
We had a feeling the move to L.A. would boost Nolasco's value, but this is a bit more than we expected. The resurgence of the Blue's lineup has helped tremendously. Continue to ride Nolasco through the rest of the season.
SP | Justin Masterson | Cleveland Indians | Injury, Fantasy,
Cleveland Indians SP Justin Masterson (oblique) is confident he'll be back pitching before the end of the regular season. He has started limited activities such as stretching, and hopes to resume playing catch this weekend.
He probably won't give you much else if he does return this season. Dropping him for a pitcher that will give you more innings down the stretch is probably wise at this point.
SP | Yu Darvish | Texas Rangers | Injury, Fantasy,
Texas Rangers SP Yu Darvish (leg) left his start Monday, Sept. 9, against the Pittsburgh Pirates due to cramping in his right leg. He is expected to make his next scheduled start Saturday, Sept. 14, against the Oakland Athletics.
It sounds like he was lifted as a precautionary move. If you're in a league which allow daily transactions, there is no need to bench him unless he suffers some sort of setback between now and Saturday.
SP | David Huff | New York Yankees | Fantasy,
New York Yankees SP David Huff was shelled in his last outing, but he is still penciled in as the starter for Thursday, Sept. 12, against the Baltimore Orioles.
SP | Matt Harrison | Texas Rangers | Fantasy,
Texas Rangers SP Matt Harrison (shoulder, back, elbow) underwent thoracic outlet syndrome surgery Monday, Sept. 9. He is expected to be ready for the start of spring training.
SP | Charlie Morton | Pittsburgh Pirates | Injury, Fantasy,
Pittsburgh Pirates SP Charlie Morton (foot) is dealing with plantar fasciitis in his left foot. He will test the injury with a side session Wednesday, Sept. 11. A source said he has also dealt with the issue in the past.
SP | Felix Hernandez | Seattle Mariners | Injury, Fantasy,
Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez (oblique) is dealing with a slight oblique strain.
Oblique strains can be tricky for pitchers, so it makes sense for the M's to be ultra-cautious with their star pitcher. If he doesn't have any setbacks, Hernandez should be able to toe the rubber again this year.
SP | Alexi Ogando | Texas Rangers | Fantasy,
Texas Rangers SP Alexi Ogando could return to the rotation and start next week. Ogando worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings and got the win over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Sunday, Sept. 8. Ogando is 5-4 with a 3.47 ERA this season and has been on the disabled list three times. SPs Nick Tepesch and Travis Blackley are also candidates to start next week.
Ogando's possible start next week is likely to be just a spot start, though, so his value won't increase much for the rest of the season.
SP | Jacob Turner | Miami Marlins | Fantasy,
The Miami Marlins are considering giving SP Jacob Turner more rest before his next start after he failed to go six innings for his sixth straight start Sunday, Sept. 8. His next turn in the rotation is scheduled to come up Friday, Sept. 13, against the New York Mets. SPs Brad Hand and Brian Flynn will play into the equation in the starting rotation down the stretch.
Turner appears to be tiring down the stretch, which is a good reason for the Fish to rest him in the final weeks. Hand and Flynn should only be considered in NL-only universes.
SP | Wandy Rodriguez | Pittsburgh Pirates | Injury, Fantasy,
Pittsburgh Pirates SP Wandy Rodriguez (forearm) is scheduled to throw a simulated game of around 65 to 70 pitches Thursday, Sept. 12.
Rodriguez shouldn't be expected to make an impact for the rest of the season. Leave him to the waiver wire for now.
SP | Scott Diamond | Minnesota Twins | Fantasy,
The Minnesota Twins will move to a six-man starting rotation, with SP Scott Diamond entering the mix. SP Cole De Vries will pitch out of the bullpen.
Diamond should only be an option for those that are truly desperate in AL-only leagues.
SP | Aaron Harang | New York Mets | Fantasy,
New York Mets SP Aaron Harang will make his debut and start with the team against the Washington Nationals Thursday, Sept. 12.
Even though the matchup against the Nationals is intriguing, Harang isn't a good option to rely on.
SP | Brandon Maurer | Seattle Mariners | Injury, Fantasy,
Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez (back) has been scratched from his scheduled start Wednesday, Sept. 11, due to stiffness in his back. He'll be replaced by SP Brandon Maurer. Maurer was in the rotation earlier this year and is 4-7 with a 6.85 ERA. Hernandez felt more stiffness while throwing on flat ground over the weekend, but the injury isn't considered serious.
Hernandez has plenty of innings on his arm over the last few seasons, so the M's will be extremely cautious here. Maurer was scheduled to enter the rotation anyway with the club going with a six-man rotation down the stretch. He's an option in deep AL-only leagues.
RP | Boone Logan | New York Yankees | Injury,
New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Monday, Sept. 9, he was unable if RP Boone Logan (elbow) would be available during the current series against the Baltimore Orioles. "I'm not sure if we're going to get him this series," Girardi said. Logan received a cortisone shot over the weekend to help with left elbow inflammation.
RP | David Robertson | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy,
New York Yankees RP David Robertson (shoulder) played catch before the game Monday, Sept. 9, and is hopeful of throwing a bullpen session Tuesday, Sept. 10. Manager Joe Girardi did not rule Robertson out for a return sometime during the current series against the Baltimore Orioles.
RP | Chad Gaudin | San Francisco Giants | Injury, Fantasy,
San Francisco Giants SP Chad Gaudin (wrist) threw a simulated game Monday, Sept. 9. He is making his way back from carpal tunnel syndrome.
RP | Bobby Parnell | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy,
New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (neck) will need surgery to fix a herniated disc in his neck, according to a baseball source. Parnell went 5-5 with a 2.16 ERA and had 22 saves in 26 chances this season.
It was unlikely that Parnell was going to be able to return this season before the surgery news. You can now safely drop him if you were holding out hope for a return. LaTroy Hawkins should continue to pitch in save situations.
RP | Frank Francisco | New York Mets | Fantasy,
New York Mets RP Frank Francisco is unavailable to pitch Monday, Sept. 9, because manager Terry Collins doesn't want to rush him back too soon and is uncomfortable having him pitch back-to-back days.
Francisco set up LaTroy Hawkins in the team's victory Sunday, so don't expect Frank Frank to steal away the closing duties before the end of the season.
