First Baseman

1B | Yonder Alonso | San Diego Padres | Injury, Fantasy
San Diego Padres 1B Yonder Alonso (hand) received an injection in his right hand Wednesday, Sept. 4. He hurt his hand during a check swing Friday, Aug. 30.

Alonso will probably miss around another seven days. In shallow leagues, he's not worth holding until then.

1B | Allen Craig | St. Louis Cardinals | Injury, Fantasy
St. Louis Cardinals 1B/OF Allen Craig (foot) had X-rays on his left foot, which were inconclusive. He's headed back to St. Louis for an MRI Thursday, Sept. 5.

1B | Ike Davis | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy
New York Mets manager Terry Collins doesn't expect 1B Ike Davis (oblique) to return to the team this season after receiving a cortisone injection in his right oblique Tuesday, Sept. 3. He said his farewells to his teammates during their team fantasy football draft Monday, Sept. 2. Davis is headed to Arizona to begin his offseason after an exam in New York. He hit only .205 this year with nine home runs and 33 RBIs and spent almost a month with Triple-A Las Vegas.

Josh Satin or Lucas Duda will fill in at first base for the rest of the season. It's safe to drop Davis in all formats now.

Second Baseman

2B | Chris Getz | Kansas City Royals | Injury, Fantasy
Kansas City Royals 2B Chris Getz (concussion) underwent concussion testing Wednesday, Sept. 4, after jarring his head and neck diving for a ball in the game Tuesday, Sept. 3.

2B | Howie Kendrick | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Injury, Fantasy
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim manager Mike Scioscia said Wednesday, Sept. 4, that he still expects 2B Howie Kendrick (knee) to return before the end of the regular season. He continues to progress slowly, and no further tests are planned.

Milwaukee Brewers SS Jean Segura (illness) sat out due to an illness Wednesday, Sept. 4.

SS | Alcides Escobar | Kansas City Royals | Fantasy
Kansas City Royals SS Alcides Escobar set a franchise record Monday Sept. 2, against the Seattle Mariners, picking up two stolen bases. He is now a perfect 18-for-18 on the season, which is a record for consecutive steals without getting caught. The previous record was set by former OF Gary Thurman, who was 16-for-16 during the 1989 season. Former OF Carlos Beltran holds the franchise record for most consecutive steals without being caught, swiping 33 straight bags from Sept. 28, 1999 to Aug. 10, 2001.

SS | Jose Iglesias | Detroit Tigers | Injury, Fantasy
Detroit Tigers SS Jose Iglesias (shin) left the game Wednesday, Sept. 4, against the Boston Red Sox due to bilateral shin splits. He is considered day to day.

SS | Derek Jeter | New York Yankees | Fantasy
New York Yankees SS Derek Jeter collected the 3,314th hit of his career Tuesday, Sept. 3, moving him into sole possession of the ninth spot on the all-time hits list past Eddie Collins. He finished the night 2-for-3 and is hitting .224 this season.

Third Baseman

3B | Chase Headley | San Diego Padres | Injury, Fantasy
San Diego 3B Chase Headley (back) returned to the lineup Wednesday, Sept. 4, against the San Francisco Giants. He went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, his ninth of the season, after missing the past six games due to back spasms.

It appears safe to get Headley back into the active fantasy lineup in leagues which permit daily moves. His back looked awfully healthy on his homer.

3B | Nolan Arenado | Colorado Rockies | Injury, Fantasy
Colorado Rockies 3B Nolan Arenado (thumb) left the game Wednesday, Sept. 4, against the Los Angeles Dodgers due to a jammed thumb. He was replaced by INF DJ LeMahieu at third base.

3B | Miguel Cabrera | Detroit Tigers | Injury, Fantasy
Detroit Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera (abdomen) is out of the lineup Wednesday, Sept. 4, a day after returning after missing three games with a strained abdomen. Manager Jim Leyland said Cabrera was "a little sore."

3B | David Wright | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy
New York Mets 3B David Wright (hamstring) has been improving, but there is still no timetable for his return.

With the minor league season ending this week, it'll be hard for Wright to continue his rehab in game action. It's still possible that he'll return before the end of the season, but time is running out.

Outfielder

OF | Starling Marte | Pittsburgh Pirates | Injury, Fantasy
Pittsburgh Pirates OF Starling Marte (hand, finger) is "slowly improving" from a right hand contusion and a sprained right ring finger. He isn't able to hold a bat with both hands yet, though, or throw without pain.

Marte will probably make it back before the end of the regular season, but he's quickly running out of time to make an impact down the stretch for your fantasy squad. Keep him reserved and find other outfield options in the meantime.

OF | Domonic Brown | Philadelphia Phillies | Injury, Fantasy
Philadelphia Phillies OF Domonic Brown (Achilles') will not do baseball activities for another week, but he expects to return before the end of the year. An MRI revealed tendonitis in his Achilles'.

Colorado Rockies OF Tyler Colvin has cleared waivers and he was outrighted to Triple-A Colorado Springs Wednesday, Sept. 4. He accepted the assignment.

OF | Lorenzo Cain | Kansas City Royals | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, while Kansas City Royals OF Lorenzo Cain (oblique) has been activated from the 15-day disabled list, he will likely be limited initially to pinch running and defense.

OF | Brian Fletcher | Kansas City Royals | Injury
Kansas City Royals OF Brian Fletcher (hand) and P Everett Teaford (hand) each landed on the 7-day disabled list at Triple-A Omaha due to hand injuries. Neither injury is believed to be serious, and both could return if Omaha advances to the next round of the Pacific Coast League playoffs.

OF | Cameron Maybin | San Diego Padres | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, San Diego Padres OF Cameron Maybin (wrist) will have surgery on his right wrist Friday, Sept. 6. Due to an impingement to the wrist and a torn posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, Maybin will finish 2013 having played only 14 games. Maybin is hopeful of getting some at-bats during winter ball, but his surgery might push that back until at least December.

OF | Bryce Harper | Washington Nationals | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Washington Nationals OF Bryce Harper (hip) was held out of the lineup Wednesday, Sept. 4, against the Philadelphia Phillies. Manager Davey Johnson wanted to give Harper a day off, coupled with the team's scheduled day off Thursday, Sept. 5, to rest his ailing hip.

OF | Josh Hamilton | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Injury, Fantasy
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Josh Hamilton (sinus) returned to the lineup Wednesday, Sept. 4, against the Tampa Bay Rays after missing time due to a sinus infection. He is serving as the designated hitter.

OF | Peter Bourjos | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Injury, Fantasy

OF | Yasiel Puig | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Fantasy
Los Angeles Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig (knee) remains out of the lineup Wednesday, Sept. 4, but manager Don Mattingly thinks Puig may be able to pinch hit.

OF | Carlos Gonzalez | Colorado Rockies | Injury, Fantasy
Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez (finger) will have to manage the pain in his sprained right middle finger for the rest of the season after aggravating it in the minors. Manager Walt Weiss said he'll pick his spots to play Gonzalez down the stretch based on how he's feeling. "I expect that thing to flare up from time to time and I'll deal with it accordingly," Weiss said. "I think that's the way it's going to be. That thing is not going to heal till the offseason." Gonzalez has missed 26 games while dealing with the injury.

Cargo probably won't be the same in the final month, so don't expect the same kind of production that he was contributing before the injury, especially now that he's had to adopt a new grip on the lumber.

OF | Marc Krauss | Houston Astros | Injury, Transaction, Fantasy
The Houston Astros recalled OF Marc Krauss from Triple-A Oklahoma City Wednesday, Sept. 4. C Jason Castro (knee) has a sore knee, OF Robbie Grossman (oblique) is dealing with a strained right oblique and 3B Matt Dominguez (illness) is sick. Krauss is starting as the designated hitter Wednesday. Castro had a cyst in his knee drained Tuesday, Sept. 3, and is a few days away from returning.

OF | Jose Bautista | Toronto Blue Jays | Injury, Fantasy
Toronto Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista (leg) has been shut down for the rest of the 2013 season because of a bone bruise on his femur. The team hopes Bautista will be ready for spring training next season.

Owners in non-keeper leagues can drop Bautista. Anthony Gose and Moises Sierra probably will see more playing time with Bautista sidelined and could be targets in AL-only leagues if they are available.

OF | Jordan Schafer | Atlanta Braves | Injury, Fantasy
Atlanta Braves OF Jordan Schafer (quadriceps) was scratched from the lineup with a left quadriceps contusion Wednesday, Sept. 4. OF B.J. Upton is replacing Schafer in the outfield and is hitting leadoff.

Starting Pitcher

SP | Jake Westbrook | St. Louis Cardinals | Injury, Fantasy,
St. Louis Cardinals SP Jake Westbrook (back) felt fine after his bullpen session Tuesday, Sept. 3. He can come off the disabled list Friday, Sept. 6, but the team is unsure if he'll return as a starter or a reliever. Westbrook prefers to start.

Whether Westbrook returns to the rotation will probably depend on the performance of Michael Wacha, who has jumped into the No. 5 rotation post.

SP | Barry Zito | San Francisco Giants | Injury, Fantasy,
San Francisco Giants SP Barry Zito (finger) has been demoted to the bullpen and is day-to-day after spraining his right ring finger on a wild pitch Tuesday, Sept. 3.

SP | Roy Oswalt | Colorado Rockies | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy,
Colorado Rockies SP Roy Oswalt is expected to be activated to pitch Sunday, Sept. 8, against the San Diego Padres. It's uncertain if he will work out of the bullpen or start in place of SP Chad Bettis, as manager Walt Weiss is still trying to decide.

Colorado Rockies SP Tyler Chatwood (thumb) threw his side session Wednesday, Sept. 4, and he was cleared to start Saturday, Sept. 7, against the San Diego Padres.

SP | Burch Smith | San Diego Padres | Fantasy,
The San Diego Padres will give SP Burch Smith the start Friday, Sept. 6, against the Colorado Rockies, with the team skipping the turn of SP Andrew Cashner.

SP | Joe Wieland | San Diego Padres | Injury,
San Diego Padres P Joe Wieland (elbow) is still hopeful he can pitch in winter ball, getting a jump-start on the 2014 season. He is making his way back from a pair of reconstructive elbow surgeries. "I want to get some innings, even if it's 10 or 15 innings," Wieland said Wednesday, Sept. 4. "I want to make sure that it's healthy. I don't want to go to spring training in the dark wondering if it's going to happen again."

SP | Ross Ohlendorf | Washington Nationals | Fantasy,
Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson announced Wednesday, Sept. 4, that P Tanner Roark will make his first career major league start Saturday, Sept. 7, against the Miami Marlins. He was chosen over SP Ross Ohlendorf for the assignment. Ohlendorf will remain on the same schedule as Roark as a backup plan.

SP | Stephen Strasburg | Washington Nationals | Injury, Fantasy,
Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson said Wednesday, Sept. 4, that SP Stephen Strasburg (hamstring) has been dealing with minor hamstring tightness over his past "couple starts." He is still expected to make his next scheduled start Sunday, Sept. 8, against the Miami Marlins.

SP | Hyun-Jin Ryu | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Fantasy,
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said the team doesn't think SP Hyun-Jin Ryu's (back) injury is very serious, and they're hoping to have him pitch Tuesday, Sept. 10, or Wednesday, Sept. 11. "We're not really concerned," Mattingly said. "Again, we're just being cautious, but no matter what the separation was (in the standings) right now, he wouldn't be pitching Friday. We would make sure he was right before he went out there."

SP | Chris Capuano | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Fantasy,
Los Angeles Dodgers SP Hyun-Jin Ryu (back) will not make his start Friday, Sept. 6, against the Cincinnati Reds because he has some discomfort in his back. SP Chris Capuano will make the start instead.

SP | Jon Lester | Boston Red Sox | Fantasy,
Boston Red Sox SP Jon Lester gave up one run on eight hits while walking none and striking out a season-high nine hitters in a victory over the Detroit Tigers Tuesday, Sept. 3. The team is 11-2 when he starts after a loss, and he's 9-1 with a 2.68 ERA in those games. Since Aug. 8, he has six quality starts for a 1.71 ERA. Lester's fastball was sitting in the high-90s Tuesday.

Relief Pitcher

RP | Greg Holland | Kansas City Royals | Fantasy,
Kansas City Royals RP Greg Holland posted another scoreless inning Tuesday, Sept. 3, against the Seattle Mariners, giving him 17 straight scoreless frames since July 27. He also is in the midst of 31 straight successful save conversions, and is 37-for-39 overall. The club record for saves in a season is 45, accomplished by former RPs Jeff Montgomery (1993) and Dan Quisenberry (1983).

RP | Pedro Strop | Chicago Cubs | Fantasy,
Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum said RP Pedro Strop could be used in save chances for the final month of the season. Sveum indicated that the team has no idea who might enter next season as the closer.

Grab Strop in all formats if you're still chasing saves in order to win your fantasy baseball championship.
