First Baseman

1B | Albert Pujols | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Injury, Fantasy
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B Albert Pujols (foot) has officially been shut down for the rest of the season.

Owners in non-keeper leagues can drop Pujols if they have not yet.

1B | Anthony Rizzo | Chicago Cubs | Fantasy
Chicago Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo (illness) is out of the lineup Monday, Aug. 19.

Second Baseman

2B | Omar Infante | Detroit Tigers | Injury, Fantasy
The Detroit Tigers are hoping 2B Omar Infante (back) can return to play Tuesday, Aug. 20, after leaving with back stiffness Saturday, Aug. 17.

Infante has had trouble staying healthy in the second half of the season. If you have other options at second or the middle infield, it'd be safe to leave Infante benched in weekly leagues.

Shortstop

SS | Miguel Tejada | Kansas City Royals | Fantasy
Kansas City Royals SS Miguel Tejada was implicated in the Biogenesis investigation, according to sources familiar with the case. Tejada was suspended 105 games over the weekend for positive tests for amphetamine use this year. Major League Baseball chose to go after Tejada for the amphetamine case over the Biogenesis case, though. It was Tejada's third positive test in his career for amphetamines. Tejada was allegedly a customer of Anthony Bosch's, and Bosch gave evidence that Tejada was his customer.

SS | Munenori Kawasaki | Toronto Blue Jays | Transaction,
The Toronto Blue Jays activated SS Munenori Kawasaki from the paternity list Monday, Aug. 19. RP Thad Weber was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move.

SS | Francisco Lindor | Cleveland Indians | Injury
Cleveland Indians SS Francisco Lindor (back) is on the disabled list with Double-A Akron with a lower back strain.

Lindor is the shortstop of the future for the Tribe, but we won't see him this September. He could be in consideration for a call-up sometime next year, though, depending on how he fares in the minors.

SS | J.J. Hardy | Baltimore Orioles | Injury, Fantasy,
Baltimore Orioles SS J.J. Hardy (back) is returning to the lineup Monday, Aug. 19, and RP Francisco Rodriguez (groin) is available to pitch out of the bullpen.

Rodriguez could be in live for a save chance today if Buck Showalter wants to give Jim Johnson a break after his recent struggles. Save chasers should add Rodriguez if he's available.

SS | Xander Bogaerts | Boston Red Sox | Injury, Transaction, Fantasy,
Boston Red Sox INF Brock Holt and C Ryan Lavarnway will be optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket Monday, Aug. 19, to make room on the roster for SS Xander Bogaerts and C David Ross (concussion), who will be activated from the disabled list. Also, P Rubby De La Rosa will be sent to Pawtucket.

Bogaerts should be playing regularly either at shortstop or third base and is worth owning in mostly all formats.

SS | Derek Jeter | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy
New York Yankees SS Derek Jeter (calf) took swings against a minor league pitcher during a simulated game Monday, Aug. 19, and he showed increased mobility in the field. Jeter also ran six sprints in the outfield but didn't run the bases.

Jeter will need to run the bases and may need to play in a few rehab games before the Yanks are comfortable bringing him back. Don't expect much output from Jeter once he returns, though.

SS | Pete Kozma | St. Louis Cardinals | Fantasy
St. Louis Cardinals 2B Daniel Descalso started at shortstop over SS Pete Kozma Sunday, Aug. 18, against a right-handed pitcher, but manager Mike Matheny said there isn't a platoon situation at the position for the rest of the season. "I am still comfortable with (Kozma's defense), but I think we've all been becoming more comfortable with the innings (Descalso) has been playing as well, and how he's swinging the bat at times. I think you're going to see both of them," Matheny said. Kozma was hitting .223 and Descalso was batting .254 entering the game.

Kozma should still be considered the starting shortstop, but it appears that Descalso could cut into his playing time down the stretch if he continues to swing it better.

SS | Starlin Castro | Chicago Cubs | Fantasy
Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum said he didn't want to sit SS Starlin Castro Sunday, Aug. 18, despite the fact that he made more mental errors Saturday, Aug. 17. Castro entered the day Sunday hitting .244 with seven home runs and 32 RBIs on the year, and he was 0-for-16 in the last five games. "I don't think this kid can get better by not playing today and understanding the adversity that we all go through in a game," Sveum said before the game.

Third Baseman

3B | Will Middlebrooks | Boston Red Sox | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell said 3B Will Middlebrooks would play second base in the event of an emergency. There is currently no backup behind 2B Dustin Pedroia.

3B | Danny Valencia | Baltimore Orioles | Transaction, Fantasy
The Baltimore Orioles recalled 3B Danny Valencia from the minors Monday, Aug. 19. He'll be the designated hitter Monday.

3B | Alex Rodriguez | New York Yankees | Fantasy
New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said he's not comfortable speaking with 3B Alex Rodriguez, who is filing a grievance against the team based on how they handled his injuries in the past year. "I'm not comfortable talking to Alex about this because we feel we are in a litigious environment," Cashman said. "Hello and goodbye, that's about it. I'm not comfortable talking to him anymore. I don't want to be distorted."

Catcher

C | Mike Napoli | Boston Red Sox | Injury, Fantasy
Boston Red Sox 1B Mike Napoli (foot) was out of the lineup Monday, Aug. 19, for the third straight game. However, manager John Farrell said he is hopeful Napoli will be able to return Tuesday, Aug. 20, against the San Francisco Giants. Napoli has been dealing with plantar fasciitis in his left foot.

C | David Ross | Boston Red Sox | Fantasy
Boston Red Sox C David Ross is likely to start Tuesday, Aug. 20, against the San Francisco Giants, giving C Jarrod Saltalamacchia a rest.

C | Carlos Corporan | Houston Astros | Injury, Fantasy
Houston Astros C Carlos Corporan (head) left the game Monday, Aug. 19, against the Texas Rangers after being hit in the head by a foul ball.

C | Anthony Recker | New York Mets | Transaction
The New York Mets optioned C Anthony Recker to the minors Monday, Aug. 19.

OF | Travis Snider | Pittsburgh Pirates | Injury, Fantasy
Pittsburgh Pirates OF Travis Snider (toe) made his first minor-league rehab start Monday, Aug. 19, with Double-A Altoona. He had a hit and run scored in three at-bats. There is still no timetable for his return.

OF | David DeJesus | Washington Nationals | Fantasy
The Washington Nationals placed OF David DeJesus on irrevocable waivers Monday, Aug. 19, merely hours after acquiring him from the Chicago Cubs, according to major league sources. The Nationals will learn Wednesday, Aug. 21, if DeJesus clears waivers. The Cubs might be interested in re-signing DeJesus if the Nationals or another team that acquires him declines his club option, sources said.

OF | Michael Brantley | Cleveland Indians | Fantasy
Cleveland Indians OF Michael Brantley made it through the game Monday, Aug. 19, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim without an error. He has now gone 213 consecutive games without an error, breaking a tie with OF Rocky Colavito for the longest error- free run in franchise history by an Indians outfielder.

OF | Ryan Raburn | Cleveland Indians | Fantasy
Cleveland Indians OF Ryan Raburn entered play Monday, Aug. 19, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim with one home run per 13 at-bats on average. That ranks third among Major Leaguers with at least 200 plate appearances behind only Baltimore Orioles 1B Chris Davis (9.9) and Detroit Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera (11.1). There are 301 Major Leaguers that qualify.

OF | Coco Crisp | Oakland Athletics | Injury, Fantasy
Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp (wrist) is back in the starting lineup Monday, Aug. 19, and is leading off.

OF | Desmond Jennings | Tampa Bay Rays | Injury, Transaction, Fantasy,

OF | Roger Bernadina | free agent | Transaction, Free Agents

Starting Pitcher

SP | James McDonald | Pittsburgh Pirates | Injury, Fantasy,
Pittsburgh Pirates SP James McDonald (shoulder) allowed two runs and two hits in just two-thirds of an inning Monday, Aug. 19, working in a rehab game with the Gulf Coast League Pirates.

SP | Wandy Rodriguez | Pittsburgh Pirates | Injury, Fantasy,
Pittsburgh Pirates SP Wandy Rodriguez (elbow) threw in the bullpen Monday, Aug. 19, and he is scheduled to throw a simulated game Thursday, Aug. 22, in San Francisco. In his first simulated game Friday, Aug. 16, manager Clint Hurdle said Rodriguez was limited to his fastball and changeup.

SP | Tyler Cloyd | Philadelphia Phillies | Transaction,
The Philadelphia Phillies optioned RP Raul Valdes to Triple-A Lehigh Valley Monday, Aug. 19, and recalled RP Tyler Cloyd in the corresponding move.

SP | Josh Tomlin | Cleveland Indians | Injury, Fantasy,
Cleveland Indians P Josh Tomlin (elbow) is slated to throw approximately 75 pitches in a minor-league rehab start Thursday, Aug. 22, with Triple-A Columbus. He has a 0.73 ERA with 10 strikeouts and no walks over 12 1/3 innings in his rehab so far.

SP | Brett Myers | Cleveland Indians | Injury, Fantasy,
Cleveland Indians RP Brett Myers (elbow) completed a simulated game with Double-A Akron Sunday, Aug. 18 with no issues. Manager Terry Francona said Monday, Aug. 19, that Myers is "antsy" about being activated from the 15-day disabled list, but Francona said Myers needs to log more innings in the minors before he is activated.

SP | Jhoulys Chacin | Colorado Rockies | Transaction, Fantasy,
The Colorado Rockies recalled 3B Jordan Pacheco from the minors Monday, Aug. 19, and placed SP Jhoulys Chacin on the bereavement list in a corresponding move.

SP | Kyle Gibson | Minnesota Twins | Transaction, Fantasy,
The Minnesota Twins optioned SP Kyle Gibson to Triple-A Rochester Monday, Aug. 19.

SP | Travis Blackley | Texas Rangers | Fantasy,
Texas Rangers P Travis Blackley will start Tuesday, Aug. 20.

Blackley is a short-term solution for the Rangers with Alexi Ogando (shoulder) hurting. Don't bother acquiring Blackley.

SP | Roy Oswalt | Colorado Rockies | Injury, Fantasy,
Colorado Rockies SP Roy Oswalt (hamstring) threw 65 pitches Monday, Aug. 19, and will throw a simulated game Thursday, Aug. 22. He hopes to get into a rehab game Sunday, Aug. 25.

SP | Johnny Cueto | Cincinnati Reds | Injury, Fantasy,
Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto (lat) has not resumed throwing and will be re-evaluated again next week. RP Sean Marshall (shoulder) has been cleared to start throwing Monday, Aug. 19.

Cueto is running out of time to make his return to the rotation and provide his fantasy owners with some numbers in the final month. You'll have to continue being patient and hope he can make a handful of starts down the stretch.

SP | Jenrry Mejia | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy,
New York Mets SP Jenrry Mejia (elbow) is dealing with bone spurs in his right elbow and might need surgery after the season. Manager Terry Collins thinks Mejia will soon have surgery, ending his season. "I can't say I know for sure, but it certainly doesn't look very good," Collins said about Mejia pitching again this season. Mejia wasn't at any harm by pitching through the pain in his elbow.

SP Carlos Torres could be asked to start against the Detroit Tigers Friday, Aug. 23, in Mejia's spot. Another option would be for Mejia's turn to be skipped and SP Matt Harvey to go on Friday. The team prefers to give SP Zack Wheeler an extra day of rest to preserve his innings, though. Collins said that September call-ups would likely be plugged into the rotation instead of Torres. SPs Rafael Montero, Noah Syndergaard and Jacob deGrom are unlikely to be among that group, however, because they are facing innings limits.

Torres may be a short-term NL-only option but nothing else. Any minor league pitcher that is tasked to fill out the rotation in the season's final month likely won't be fantasy-relevant, either.

SP | Jeremy Hefner | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy,
New York Mets SP Jeremy Hefner (elbow) will see a doctor Tuesday, Aug. 20, to determine if he'll need Tommy John surgery on his elbow. Hefner is dealing with a partial tear of the medial collateral ligament in his right elbow.

Even if Hefner doesn't need Tommy John, it'll be tough for him to return and pitch again this season. Don't hold out hope that he will contribute in the last month of the season.

SP | Garrett Mock | free agent | Transaction, Free Agents,
The Arizona Diamondbacks released P Garrett Mock Monday, Aug. 19.

Relief Pitcher

RP | Brian Wilson | Los Angeles Dodgers | Transaction, Fantasy,
The Los Angeles Dodgers purchased the contract of RP Brian Wilson from the minors Monday, Aug. 19, and optioned OF Scott Van Slyke to Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move.

RP | Bobby Parnell | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy,
New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell (neck) continues to get treatment in New York for his herniated disc in his neck. It's unknown if Parnell will need surgery to fix the injury.

You'll have to hang onto Parnell until we know more on whether he'll need surgery. If he does, you'll be free to drop him and pursue other pitching talents. With Parnell out, LaTroy Hawkins is the favorite to see the majority of save opps from here on out.

RP | Kenley Jansen | Los Angeles Dodgers | Transaction, Fantasy,
The Los Angeles Dodgers will activate RP Brian Wilson onto the active roster Monday, Aug. 19.

Wilson has done everything the team asked of him in the minors to prove he's healthy. He has his velocity back and has looked good. However, his fantasy impact will be very minimal, since he has virtually no shot at saves with Kenley Jansen firmly locked into that role.

RP | Lucas Harrell | Houston Astros | Fantasy,
Houston Astros SP Lucas Harrell will start the game against the Texas Rangers Monday, Aug. 19.
