First Baseman

1B | Albert Pujols | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 1B Albert Pujols (foot) will not undergo surgery on the partial tear of the plantar fascia in his left foot, and he's hoping that he can return before the end of the season. Pujols will be in a walking boot for three weeks and will then start to rehab. "But it's still a long way until the season is done, so I don't want to say that I'm done for the season. This is something that I'm going to take day-by-day. The way I feel right now, with no pain, I can say that I can go out there and play. But I need to put that weight on my heel and that's going to take some time. I feel really good, to tell you the truth. I don't feel any pain at all. I think after that tear, it kind of released the pain, which is good," Pujols said.

1B | Eric Hosmer | Kansas City Royals | Fantasy
Kansas City Royals 1B Billy Butler is expected to sit the bench in all three games in a National League park this weekend, as the team will lose the designated hitter. The New York Mets will be starting three right-handed pitchers, which makes it easy to keep 1B Eric Hosmer at first base. Hosmer is hitting .308 with 10 home runs and 29 RBIs in 48 games since June 7.

1B | Brett Pill | San Francisco Giants | Fantasy
San Francisco Giants 1B Brett Pill could see more playing time over 1B Brandon Belt, who is struggling at the plate. Manager Bruce Bochy said it would be tough to keep Pill's bat out of the lineup if he continues to swing the bat well.

1B | Lance Berkman | Texas Rangers | Injury, Fantasy
Texas Rangers 1B Lance Berkman (hip, knees) is optimistic about returning to the team. He ran at 50 percent intensity Thursday, Aug. 1, and is hoping to go on a rehab assignment Aug. 8 or 9.

1B | Paul Konerko | Chicago White Sox | Injury, Fantasy
Chicago White Sox 1B Paul Konerko (back) is expected to return to first base this weekend after serving as the designated hitter since returning from the disabled list July 22. "It's just more protecting his back. I was thinking about doing it here (in Cleveland), but the other night there was a little something when he was running the bases. So, it's precautionary stuff more than anything," manager Robin Ventura said. Konerko is 9-for-36 with a double and five RBIs since coming off the DL.

There's a large gap between the suspension he's willing to accept and the one the league would like to give him, according to two sources. Most of the other players tied to Biogenesis are expected to accept 50-game bans without appealing.

Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter thinks the New York Yankees will sign C Matt Wieters in two years if they don't have to pay 3B Alex Rodriguez's $25 million salary next year if he's suspended. The unpaid money wouldn't count against the Yankees' luxury tax and revenue sharing. "If Bud lets them get away with that, they're under the luxury tax," Showalter told USA Today. "If they can reset, they can spend again, and I guarantee you in two years Matt Wieters is in New York." Wieters is eligible for free agency after the 2015 season.

C | Kelly Shoppach | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
The St. Louis Cardinals are considering signing free-agent C Kelly Shoppach (Nationals) with C Yadier Molina (knee) on the disabled list. If they don't add Shoppach, Cs Rob Johnson and Tony Cruz will split duties behind the plate until Molina is ready to return.
