First Baseman

1B | Corey Hart | Milwaukee Brewers | Injury, Fantasy
Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin said during a radio interview that 1B Corey Hart (knee) could be out until after the All-Star break.

1B | Justin Morneau | Minnesota Twins | Fantasy
Minnesota Twins 1B Justin Morneau carried a .297 batting average into play Wednesday, June 12, with a team-high 36 RBI, but he has just two home runs in 57 games. He has not homered since April 28, which is the longest drought of his career. Morneau isn't losing any sleep over the power outage. "It's one of those things where it'll come," Morneau said. "I just have to keep hitting the ball hard. It's frustrating and not what I like to see, but doing other things to help us win, I think I can live with that."

1B | Ryan Howard | Philadelphia Phillies | Fantasy
Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard has hit just one home run in his last 107 plate appearances entering play on Wednesday, June 12. Manager Charlie Manuel was asked if his recent struggles might be related to an ailing left knee and if he'd consider hitting someone else fourth. The questioning led to a somewhat heated exchange in which his frustrations became obvious. Manuel was asked if he was upset about the offense or the questions concerning it, and he replied, "A little of both, probably. We are inconsistent performance-wise. And when you've got that, it's hard. We won five games in a row, then we lose four. That's kind of how we've been playing."

1B | Justin Smoak | Seattle Mariners | Injury, Fantasy
Seattle Mariners 1B Justin Smoak (oblique) swung a bat left-handed Wednesday, June 12, and if that goes well, he's likely to begin a rehab assignment on Thursday, June 13.

Second Baseman

2B | Dustin Ackley | Seattle Mariners | Fantasy
Seattle Mariners 2B Dustin Ackley started in left field at Triple-A Tacoma Wednesday, June 12. General manager Jack Zduriencik said Ackley will see more time in the outfield to provide more options.

2B | Ian Kinsler | Texas Rangers | Injury, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Texas Rangers 2B Ian Kinsler (ribcage) went through a full workout Wednesday, June 12, and he has been cleared to begin a minor-league rehab assignment. He will report to Double-A Frisco Thursday, June 13. Kinsler will serve as the designated hitter Thursday, before playing second base Friday, June 14, and Saturday, June 15. He might be activated Sunday, June 16, or Monday, June 17.

2B | Danny Espinosa | Washington Nationals | Injury, Fantasy
Washington Nationals 2B Danny Espinosa (wrist) has already resumed baseball activities and will report to Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday, June 13, to play three innings in the first game of a rehab assignment.

2B | Marco Scutaro | San Francisco Giants | Injury, Fantasy
San Francisco Giants 2B Marco Scutaro (finger) saw a hand specialist on Wednesday, June 12, for the tendon injury in his pinkie that resulted from being hit by a pitch on Tuesday, June 11. He was told that surgery wasn't required for his case of "mallet finger" and that he didn't have to rule out a return to action once the swelling and pain subside, in a couple of days. The usual treatment options for this injury -- complete immobilization with a splint or the insertion of a pin -- wouldn't work if he tried to play, however. He's wearing a modified splint for the time being. If he doesn't keep the finger straight for four to six weeks, it would become deformed permanently. "I want to play. I also want to have a good finger. I don't want to live with a finger like this," said Scutaro. Manager Bruce Bochy is leaving it up to the player.

2B | Chase Utley | Philadelphia Phillies | Injury, Fantasy
Philadelphia Phillies 2B Chase Utley (oblique) swung a bat on Sunday, June 9, for the first time in nearly three weeks. He progressed to soft toss in the indoor cage with assistant hitting coach Wally Joyner on Wednesday, June 12, at Target Field. He doesn't have a target date for a return or a rehab assignment, but he's encouraged by the fact that he hasn't had any soreness since he started swinging. He hopes to participate in live batting practice this weekend in Denver. Utley said of an estimated mid-June return, "I think it's still realistic."

Shortstop

SS | Hanley Ramirez | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Fantasy

Third Baseman

3B | Trevor Plouffe | Minnesota Twins | Injury, Fantasy
Minnesota Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe (calf) had a pair of hits, including a home run, in his second minor-league rehab game with Triple-A Rochester Tuesday, June 11. He is scheduled to play all nine innings in a game with Rochester Thursday, June 13. He might be able to come off the 15-day disabled list as soon as this weekend if he does not experience any setbacks.

3B | Anthony Rendon | Washington Nationals | Injury, Fantasy
Washington Nationals 2B Danny Espinosa (wrist) has already resumed baseball activities and will report to Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday, June 13, to play three innings in the first game of a rehab assignment.

3B | Pablo Sandoval | San Francisco Giants | Injury, Fantasy

Catcher

C | Mike Napoli | Boston Red Sox | Fantasy
Boston Red Sox 1B Mike Napoli said Wednesday, June 12, that he has more time to rest these days, as opposed to his days as a full-time catcher. His days used to be filled up with scouting reports and meetings with pitchers and figuring out potential matchups. Now, he plays first base primarily, and has more down time. "You're a little more free," Napoli said. "You don't have to worry about all that pitching stuff. You can just worry about hitting and your fielding." Napoli also cited the obvious physical benefits of first base, as opposed to catcher, as well as the mental side which is less taxing.

C | Erik Kratz | Philadelphia Phillies | Injury
Philadelphia Phillies C Erik Kratz (knee) had surgery to repair a torn medial meniscus on Wednesday, June 12. He will be out for six to eight weeks, per team officials.

C | Carlos Ruiz | Philadelphia Phillies | Injury, Fantasy
Philadelphia Phillies C Carlos Ruiz (hamstring) took batting practice with the team Wednesday, June 12.

C | Wilson Ramos | Washington Nationals | Injury, Fantasy
Washington Nationals C Wilson Ramos (hamstring) suffered another setback in his recovery from a strained right hamstring. He pulled up while doing drills that involved running from first to third. It's unlikely that he'll be back before the All-Star break.

C | Mike Zunino | Seattle Mariners | Fantasy
Seattle Mariners C Mike Zunino will make his MLB debut Wednesday, June 12. He's batting sixth.

Outfielder

OF | Michael Cuddyer | Colorado Rockies | Injury, Fantasy
Colorado Rockies OF Michael Cuddyer (ribs) is expected to start Thursday, June 13, against the Washington Nationals. He was originally injured in a collision June 6. OF | Ryan Braun | Milwaukee Brewers | Injury, Fantasy
Milwaukee Brewers OF Ryan Braun (thumb) was out of the lineup for a third straight game Wednesday, June 12, against the Miami Marlins, and he said his right thumb injury does not feel much better than it did Monday, June 10. OF | Angel Pagan | San Francisco Giants | Injury, Fantasy
San Francisco Giants OF Angel Pagan (hamstring) has improved, according to manager Bruce Bochy, but the outfielder won't be activated from the disabled list before the team's road trip ends this Sunday, June 16. Pagan has yet to jog or perform any baseball activities.

OF | Franklin Gutierrez | Seattle Mariners | Injury, Fantasy
Seattle Mariners OF Franklin Gutierrez (hamstring) is beginning a rehab assignment on Wednesday, June 12, with Triple-A Tacoma. The Rainiers are visiting Triple-A Las Vegas. This is Gutierrez's second rehab assignment for his strained hamstring.

OF | B.J. Upton | Atlanta Braves | Fantasy
Atlanta Braves OF B.J. Upton has been moved to sixth in the team's batting order because of his recent improvement and to him a better chance to steal bases, according to manager Fredi Gonzalez.

OF | Cameron Maybin | San Diego Padres | Injury, Transaction, Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
San Diego Padres OF Cameron Maybin (knee) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 10, with a left knee sprain. The Padres have recalled OF Jaff Decker from Triple-A Tucson.

San Diego Padres SP Edinson Volquez struck out a season-high nine in seven innings Wednesday, June 12, as he rebounded from the worst start of his career and led the Padres to a 5-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves and a three-game sweep. SP | Matt Harrison | Texas Rangers | Injury, Fantasy,
Texas Rangers SP Matt Harrison (back) is hopeful of resuming a throwing program Monday, June 17. However, it might be September before he is able to return to the team's rotation. He has been told by the team to take it slow, even when he is cleared to resume his throwing program. That means he could be limited to throwing from flat ground for four to six weeks.

SP | Dillon Gee | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy,
New York Mets SP Dillon Gee (hand) admitted after his start Wednesday, June 12, that he has been battling "flexor tendonitis" all season.

SP | Zack Wheeler | New York Mets | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
The New York Mets are expected to use a six-man rotation for at least one turn after they promote SP Zack Wheeler to the majors on Tuesday, June 18, for the team's doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves. Manager Terry Collins wants to keep all his starters in line following the twin bill. Workload may help to determine what happens next. SPs Jeremy Hefner and Dillon Gee remain the two likely members to be removed eventually.

Cincinnati Reds SP Tony Cingrani will likely return to Triple-A Louisville once Johnny Cueto (lat) returns from the disabled list, which could happen Sunday, June 16. Still, the organization has been impressed with the improvements he's made since being demoted. He has refined some of his secondary pitches and, chiefly, has cultivated a curveball that he worked on with Reds SP Homer Bailey and started throwing during his first big-league stint. There's now a much bigger difference between his slider and curve, which were previously nearly indistinguishable.

Minnesota Twins RP Jared Burton (groin) left his appearance Saturday, June 8, due to a groin injury, but he was expected to be available Wednesday, June 12, against the Philadelphia Phillies after missing the past three games.
