C Ryan Doumit, Minnesota Twins
Jimenez rediscovering top form?
Doumit has plated 13 with four homers, three doubles and even a three-bagger while hitting .308 with a 1.101 OPS over his last nine games; he has collected at least one hit in eight of them. He's hit all of his seven homers since the end of April.
That sluggish start to 2013 prompted Doumit to simplify his swing with some video work. His walk and strikeout rates are headed in the right direction, and more authoritative contact should bring about better in-play fortune. His continued outfield work will buttress his at-bat load. He's coming off what many considered a career year, and in healthy campaigns, Doumit has ranked as an almost universal fantasy starter.
SP Ubaldo Jimenez, Cleveland Indians
Finally, hints of his 2009-2010 ace form have returned, but he's still a meagerly owned property; must be the 4.83 season ERA that accompanies his name. In his last seven starts, he boasts a 2.74 ERA with 45 K's and 16 walks (1.12 WHIP) in 42 2/3 frames.
His weakness for free passes and homers will hurt, but his grounder rate has jumped back to its previous highs as he's regained bite and dip on his pitches, including his changeup. Though it'd help to have more infield pop-ups, he actually has room to improve in his HR/FB. His mechanics look like they're back to what they were in his standout seasons.
We've showcased him under this heading before. Don't force us to include him again.
