First Baseman

1B | Ike Davis | New York Mets | Fantasy
New York Mets OF Lucas Duda and 1B Ike Davis are sitting the bench against a left-handed pitcher Thursday, May 9. Davis is hitting only .167 (8-for-48) with two RBIs and 20 strikeouts in his last 15 games. Manager Terry Collins said Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jeff Locke's "cross-fire" delivery is very tough on lefties. Davis will return to the lineup against another southpaw Friday, May 10.

1B | Paul Goldschmidt | Arizona Diamondbacks | Fantasy
Scouts have recently been very enamored with 1B Paul Goldschmidt and his skills at the plate, and the first baseman crushed two more home runs Wednesday, May 8. "He's an unbelievable player," RP Heath Bell said. "If he were on the east coast, he'd be (considered) one of the best in the game. I think he is one of the best in the game as it is. We don't get a whole lot of limelight here in Arizona. He's just an amazing player." Goldschmidt had four home runs in three games against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

One scout noted that Goldschmidt is a pure hitter unlike most of the other first basemen in the majors. "He's not giving away a single at-bat right now," a scout said. "He's unreal. He's so locked in. He's got monster power and now he's kind of understanding his game on a different level."

1B | Adrian Gonzalez | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Fantasy
Los Angeles Dodgers 1B Adrian Gonzalez (neck) was removed from the game after aggravating his strained neck Wednesday, May 8. Gonzalez believes he'll be ready to play Friday, May 10.

Colorado Rockies SS Troy Tulowitzki (groin) is back in the lineup Thursday, May 9.

SS | Eduardo Nunez | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy
New York Yankees SS Eduardo Nunez (rib cage) is unlikely to be ready Thursday, May 9, after doing some light throwing and taking ground balls Wednesday, May 8. SS | Brandon Wood | Baltimore Orioles | Transaction
The Baltimore Orioles acquired INF Brandon Wood from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for cash considerations. He'll report to Triple-A Norfolk.

Third Baseman

3B | Juan Francisco | Atlanta Braves | Fantasy
The Atlanta Braves platoon at third base between 3Bs Juan Francisco and Chris D. Johnson has worked out very well. Francisco, who hits left-handed, is hitting .302 with five home runs in 63 at-bats, and Johnson, who swings from the right side, is batting .419 (13-for-31) with two home runs against southpaws. Johnson actually hit better against righties last year, but Johnson focused on improving against lefties in the offseason, and he worked extensively with hitting coach Greg Walker. "My bat path," Johnson said. "Two things I try to focus on is being on time and keeping a strong path through the zone, not try to be in and out. (He's kept his hands lower in his stance this year.) If I have a good path then my bat stays in the zone a long time, it gives you more of a chance to stay in the middle of the field and get some hits."

3B | Will Middlebrooks | Boston Red Sox | Injury, Fantasy
Boston Red Sox 3B Will Middlebrooks (ribs) and C David Ross (quadriceps) are in the starting lineup Thursday, May 9.

3B | Miguel Cabrera | Detroit Tigers | Injury, Fantasy

Just stay off my foot and trying to keep it elevated so it can heal back to 100 percent," d'Arnaud. "I'm in a boot that I've been wearing it all the time, except when I sleep."

C | A.J. Pierzynski | Texas Rangers | Injury, Fantasy

Outfielder

OF | Jayson Werth | Washington Nationals | Injury, Fantasy
The initial evaluation of the MRI on Washington Nationals OF Jayson Werth's (hamstring) right hamstring were "pretty negative," Manager Davey Johnson said before the game Thursday, May 9. It was an encouraging sign that the lingering tightness in the leg muscle isn't serious. Werth hasn't played in a week, since May 2, when he left after five innings when the hamstring tightened on him again after resting it for two games. Johnson suggested on Wednesday that Werth's recent bout with a stomach bug has deprived his body of fluids and the dehydration is the root of the continued muscle cramping.

OF | Angel Pagan | San Francisco Giants | Injury, Fantasy
San Francisco Giants OF Angel Pagan's (groin) injury only affects him when he swings from the left side but not when he's running. He will continue to play as long as the pain is bearable.

OF | Alex Gordon | Kansas City Royals | Fantasy
Kansas City Royals OF Alex Gordon has moved from the leadoff spot to third Thursday, May 9, with 1B Billy Butler hitting cleanup. "The most important two spots we have in the lineup right now should be manned by Gordy and Billy," manager Ned Yost said. "That's three and four. Everything else is interchangeable depending on who's hot and the matchups." The team's No. 4 hitter has ranked last in RBIs (seven), extra-base hits (six) and slugging percentage (.277), and they are ranked 29th among 30 teams with a .271 on-base percentage. SS Alcides Escobar is batting leadoff with OF Lorenzo Cain following him. Escobar prefers to hit second and has much more experience in that slot, but he doesn't have a problem hitting atop the order. 2B Chris Getz and OF Jeff Francoeur returned to the lineup Thursday, but they'll need to show production soon if they want to keep everyday jobs. Yost plans on using this new-look lineup for an extended period of time.

OF | Coco Crisp | Oakland Athletics | Injury, Fantasy
Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp (hamstring) has started taking swings off a tee since he's feeling better, and he could start running soon. However, OF Chris B. Young (quadriceps) is expected to be ready to return before Crisp. Both players can come off the disabled list May 16.
