Minnesota Twins 3B Miguel Sano (elbow) and 2B Eddie Rosario (leg) were both out of action for Single-A Fort Myers Wednesday, May 8. Sano was hit on the left elbow by a pitch earlier this week and Rosario is dealing with a leg injury. "With the morning game, it made sense to give them today off," said Brad Steil, the Twins director of minor leagues. "Sano will probably be in there tomorrow and Rosario in a couple of days." Sano is hitting .387 with 10 home runs and 31 RBIs in 30 games.

He was held out of the lineup Wednesday, May 8. "Angel is feeling better," manager Bruce Bochy said. "He can play but I want to be cautious with him. The last thing we need is a setback. We feel like this will go away."

Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost is considering changing up his lineup in the near future that would possibly include moving OF Alex Gordon from leadoff to third in the lineup and increased playing time for OF Jarrod Dyson and 2B Elliot Johnson. Dyson started in center field Wednesday, May 8, and OF Lorenzo Cain shifted to right in place of struggling OF Jeff Francoeur. Johnson started for the second day over 2B Chris Getz. Gordon is hitting only .180 (9-for-50) when leading off an inning compared to .490 (24-for-49) with runners on base. Yost is considering Dyson, Cain or SS Alcides Escobar for options at leadoff. Moving Gordon to third in the lineup would allow 1B Billy Butler to return to the cleanup spot.

Liriano is healthy after fracturing his right arm in spring training, and he went 2-1 with a 4.15 ERA in five starts over 21 2/3 innings during his minor league rehab assignment. Liriano had 33 strikeouts and just four walks, and he credits a new, overhand delivery for his results. "My command with the fastball was very good. Last year, I had trouble locating my fastball. Now it's a lot better, I'm throwing it in and out," he said.

Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto (lat) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Dayton Thursday, May 9, after he threw a successful bullpen session earlier this week.

SP | Roy Halladay | Philadelphia Phillies | Injury, Fantasy
Philadelphia Phillies SP Roy Halladay (shoulder) has been diagnosed with a partial tear of the rotator cuff and a fraying of the labrum that has resulted from it rubbing against a bone spur in his right shoulder. He'll have surgery to clean up these problems. Halladay told the media that he has no timetable for a return and hasn't decided where he'll have surgery. He added that some pitchers have returned in three months but that he won't have a timetable until after the procedure. If the diagnosis is confirmed at that time, then the right-hander has a good chance to pitch again this season. Doctors are optimistic about Halladay's case to return in 2013.

"The doctor seemed pretty optimistic that if what they saw is correct that I could come back and be a lot more effective and have a chance to pitch this year and they said they thought they could turn back the clock two or three years for me," Halladay said. He also noted that he hasn't felt much pain throughout the entire process. The doctor told him that pain is likely the last symptom the pitcher would feel and that negative signs from his performance -- poor location, reduced velocity -- are exactly the kinds of signs that show up first.

Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson said RP Christian Garcia (forearm) has been throwing fastballs and changeups off of the mound. Garcia will start throwing curveballs Thursday, May 9. Garcia then would throw batting practice and begin a rehab assignment.

The team will not rule out re-signing Norberto to a minor league deal, though, and Norberto is open to the idea. Norberto resumed throwing two days ago and made 25 throws from 60 feet Wednesday.

Atlanta Braves RP Craig Kimbrel might not be available to pitch Wednesday, May 8, because manager Fredi Gonzalez doesn't want to pitch Kimbrel for three days in a row this early in the year. Kimbrel has blown three of his last five save chances. He was an out away from his 100th career save Tuesday, May 7, before allowing a home run to the Cincinnati Reds. "It is what it is," Gonzalez said. "At the end of the year, (Kimbrel's) going to have 40-something saves and five blown saves or four blown saves. It just so happens he's getting them right here in a little bunch. No worries." Kimbrel's ERA has risen from 0.00 to 3.38 in his last five outings.
