NFL Draft Pick 2:8 - Geno Smith, QB, New York Jets

The New York Jets have selected West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith with the 40th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Geno Smith, QB, New York Jets

Fantasy analysis: Smith spent a lot longer in the green room than he was expecting to wait, but it came to an end with the Jets opting for him. It can be presumed that Smith and incumbent starter Mark Sanchez will battle it out in training camp for the starting job.

Even if Smith wins the gig, his 2013 fantasy outlook is bleak, and that is being kind. Currently, the Jets have Santonio Holmes and Stephen Hill as their top two wideouts, with Jeremy Kerley in the mix. Jeff Cumberland is slated as their starting tight end. One positive may rest in newly acquired RB Chris Ivory, who figures to at least compete for carries with Bilal Powell and Mike Goodson if not take the lead immediately, but he's hardly rock-solid.

Maybe, in time, Smith can be a competent fantasy quarterback, but that isn't going to happen in 2013. Avoid him like the plague in single-year formats.
