New York Mets manager Terry Collins indicated that 1B Ike Davis has been getting hurt by outside pitches this year. "So we've tried to get him to where he covers the outside part of the plate. Ike has moved up on the plate to take away the outside pitch. And I thought last night, the two balls he hit to left field, were the start. If he starts going that way to where he's going to use more of the field to hit, he's got some better opportunities to drive some runs in. I hope the home run gets him going also." Davis went 1-for-4 with a homer Thursday, April 25, but he also struck out two times.

Milwaukee Brewers SS Jean Segura has flown under the radar as one of the league's best shortstops, but he has a slash line of .356/.397/.493 in April and is one of the faster men in the bigs. He also hit .313 with a .367 on-base percentage in the minors and won a batting title in the Dominican Winter League. "He's really been under the radar," general manager Doug Melvin said. "I don't think he's ever listed in the top-25 prospects. But he's 22, going on 23, and he's really opened our eyes. I see people talk about the (Jurickson) Profars and even the Dee Gordons. But they never talk about him. He's an exciting player."

"It's hard to say it belongs to anybody," Mattingly said of third base. "I'll keep trying to match up numbers the best I can. The bright side is they all catch the ball. For me, it's mix and match." C | Carlos Santana | Cleveland Indians | Fantasy
The Cleveland Indians believe C Carlos Santana has improved his defensive skills considerably behind the plate. "He's had a hot start offensively," said bench coach Sandy Alomar Jr. "I think he's still working behind the plate. I mean, he's still further ahead offensively than defensively, but he's doing the job, and he's taking more pride in his defense." Santana threw out only 25.4 percent of attempted base stealers last year, which ranked in the middle of the pack in the American League, and he led the AL in passed balls with 10. However, Santana has done a better job communicating with the club's pitchers so far this year.

OF | Giancarlo Stanton | Miami Marlins | Fantasy,
The New York Mets had been rumored to be interested in trading for Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton, but the Marlins would likely ask for SP Zack Wheeler and C Travis d'Arnaud in return. "I wouldn't give one of those guys for Stanton," said one National League executive. "The catcher has a chance to be a 10-year All-Star. The other guy is one of the best pitching prospects in the game."

OF | Bryce Harper | Washington Nationals | Fantasy
Washington Nationals OF Bryce Harper has impressed many scouts with his power to all fields, but one scout was just as impressed with Harper's hustle on the field. "I saw him hit a routine ground ball to shortstop, and I got him running to first in under four seconds," the scout said. "I'll tell you what: If you wanted to find a poster child for how to play major league baseball correctly, you'd choose Bryce Harper."

Lincecum failed to find a consistent approach in his first three starts with Sanchez and threw 6 2/3 shutout innings with Posey. "His command and tempo were really good in his last start, and that's what we'd like to see on Friday."

Harvey didn't throw a slider much in the minors, but when he came up to the Mets, pitching coach Dan Warthen changed Harvey's grip on the pitch a bit, and Harvey was surprised at how hard he could throw it and how much the pitch moved. "Basically," Harvey said, "I just offset the grip on my fastball -- and throw the crap out of it."

SP | Stephen Strasburg | Washington Nationals | Fantasy,
A scout praised New York Mets SP Matt Harvey over Washington Nationals SP Stephen Strasburg after watching the two pitchers square off against one another last week. "If you didn't know who was who, you'd have thought Harvey was Strasburg and Strasburg was Harvey. You know, I've always loved Strasburg, and I've given him the highest grade you could give a player. But if you were to ask me which guy was the better bet to be great for the next five years, I'd say Harvey. His stuff's just as good. And he has a better delivery," the scout said.

SP | John Lackey | Boston Red Sox | Injury, Fantasy,
Boston Red Sox SP John Lackey (biceps) threw a bullpen session Thursday, April 25, and he's expected to return to the rotation and start Sunday, April 28. C Ryan Lavarnway is expected to be sent down to make room on the roster for Lackey.

SP | James Shields | Kansas City Royals | Fantasy,
One scout said he'd rather give a nine-figure contract to Kansas City Royals SP James Shields than Los Angeles Dodgers SP Zack Greinke. "Greinke's stuff is a little better," the scout said. "And on a given day, he can rise to the occasion and just dominate. But there are other days where he almost seems a little disinterested. You never have to worry about that with Shields. He's out there for one reason -- to beat you. And then there's the impact he has on a club on a daily basis. That's one thing about Greinke. He has great stuff. But he gives you none of that."

SP | Ted Lilly | Los Angeles Dodgers | Fantasy,
Los Angeles Dodgers SP Ted Lilly gave up only one run in five innings in a no-decision against the New York Mets Wednesday, April 24, in his first start back since having left shoulder surgery last season. Lilly struck out seven and wiggled out of several jams to keep his team in the game.

"There are days when it doesn't feel great and there are days when it feels okay. It's just part of it. I don't think anyone feels 100 percent. Everyone's kind of giving it whatever they have each day. That's kind of what's expected of us."

RP | Bruce Rondon | Detroit Tigers | Fantasy,
Detroit Tigers RP Bruce Rondon made his first major league appearance Thursday, April 25, against the Kansas City Royals, but it wasn't a good outing. He allowed an earned run and three hits to blow his first save, frittering away a one-run lead and win for SP Justin Verlander in the process. On a positive note, he was able to reach 100 mph on the Comerica Park scoreboard radar gun.

RP | Jason Grilli | Pittsburgh Pirates | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy,

New York Mets RP Scott Rice was used in the ninth inning of a tied ball game Thursday, April 25, because manager Terry Collins doesn't want to overuse RP Bobby Parnell by using him late in tied games. The Los Angeles Dodgers had a string of left-handed pitcher coming to bat, too. Rice ended up letting the Dodgers take the lead and eventually win. Rice has entered in the eighth inning or later in each of his last five outings.

Los Angeles Dodgers RP Shawn Tolleson (back) will have surgery to fix a herniated disc in his lower back Thursday, April 25, and he'll miss three to five months. Tolleson injured his back in January, and he thinks it flared up April 11 in the minors.

RP | Jose Valverde | Detroit Tigers | Fantasy,
Detroit Tigers RP Jose Valverde recorded his first save with the team against the Kansas City Royals Wednesday, April 24, and he was hitting 95 mph on the radar gun with his fastball. "I've caught him for three years," C Alex Avila said. "I've caught him where his ball hasn't had much movement, and I've caught him in years past when he's had a little bit of sink, a little bit of cut. Today it looked like he was able to command both, and was able to go to both sides of the plate."
