2013 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Cornellius Carradine, DE, Florida State

Florida State defensive end Cornellius Carradine will have to overcome a major knee injury to place highly in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Known as "Tank," Carradine racked up 16.5 sacks in the last two seasons after posting 26.0 at the JUCO level in the previous two years.

Coming off a major injury

Strengths

  • Great size at 6-foot-5, 276 pounds
  • Immense wingspan (34 3/4-inch arms) and huge hands (10 1/4 inches)
  • Very agile with quick feet
  • Breaks down well in space
  • Sound tackler
  • High motor - constantly hustles to the whistle
  • Well-rounded - a powerful pass rusher but is even better against the run
  • Above-average play recognition skills
  • Respectable initial punch

Weaknesses

  • Still learning how to become a complete pass rusher
  • Recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament late in 2012
  • Inconsistent off the ball
  • Limited experience
  • Very raw hand technique

Expected draft placement

Carradine's placement will have to rely on the tape and his team interviews this draft season. He did not participate in any workouts since the season ended but still has a chance to go in the late first round (Atlanta Falcons, Denver Broncos). If not, he should not slide out of the second round.
