by Cory J. Bonini on March 26, 2013 @ 16:51:28 PDT

UCLA defensive end Datone Jones enters the 2013 NFL Draft after a promising senior campaign. He racked up 62 stops (19 for loss) and 6.5 sacks in 2012. Following a broken foot that cost him the entire 2010 season, Jones returned for 41 tackles and 3.0 sacks in '11.

  • Read-and-react skills - was asked to do this a lot, especially versus the run, in college
  • Intelligent, hard-working player with a passion for the game

  • Terribly inconsistent
  • Tends to lose his balance firing out - destroys any chance of gaining leverage
  • Failed to live up to expectations
  • A bit of a tweener - what is he in the NFL?
  • Lacks elite bend and ability to turn the corner
  • Conditioning could be a factor

Expected draft placement

Jones has first-round potential, but his limitations could cause him to slide into the second day. He has a shot at going to the Minnesota Vikings (No. 23, No. 25) or Indianapolis Colts (No. 24). The Atlanta Falcons (No. 30) are also a possibility in the first round.
