by Cory J. Bonini on March 26, 2013 @ 16:51:29 PDT

Alabama offensive tackle D.J. Fluker decided to leave for the pros following his junior season and try his hand in the 2013 NFL Draft. He has started all 27 games at right tackle over the last two seasons for the Crimson Tide.

D.J. Fluker, OT, Alabama
Positional limitations

Strengths

  • Imposing size (6-foot-5, 339 pounds)
  • Impressive wingspan (36 3/8-inch arms) and big hands (10 1/4 inches)
  • Powerful initial punch
  • Dominant in the running game
  • Committed to his craft - intelligent, hard worker
  • Team leader
  • Experienced for a junior - 36 starts
  • Fires out low in obvious short-yardage situations
  • Strong anchor and ability to eliminate defenders from the play

Weaknesses

  • Limited to the role of right tackle in a power-blocking system in the NFL
  • Less-than-ideal pass protector - allowed more sacks than any OT in the SEC in 2012
  • Slow, lumbering feet
  • Lacks flexibility and balance
  • Needs to keep his feet moving in run blocking

Expected draft placement

Fluker figures to go in the second half of the first round and no later than the early second. He has the potential to go as early as No. 18 to the Dallas Cowboys. Expect the Cincinnati Bengals (No. 21) and Indianapolis Colts (No. 24) to also be in play. He probably won't make it past the Detroit Lions (No. 37) in the second round.
