Another week is behind us in the fantasy hockey season, and it is time to once again take a run through the fantasy hockey waiver wire. With the shortened NHL season, injuries are playing a bigger role than they normally would, and thus wreaking havoc on fantasy leagues. Who are the players you need to know about that could help you win your week and ultimately your league?
Slava Voynov, defenseman, Los Angeles Kings
Defense is one of the most difficult positions in which to find contributors in fantasy hockey. Voynov has had a terrific week for the Kings, checking in with five points, all assists. Voynov has also checked in with three points with the man advantage. Voynov is part of a team that has played well recently after a slow start, so there is no reason to believe his production will change. When it comes to defenseman, it is never a bad idea to play the hot hand when it comes to defensemen that are not regularly big point producers and Voynov falls into that category. Voynov is still available in approximately 40 percent of all leagues polled.
Nik Antropov, center, Winnipeg Jets
Antropov had a terrific week for the Jets, collecting two goals and four assists over the past four games. Antropov looks like he is trying to regain his scoring touch that has been lost over the past year and is making himself relevant again in fantasy hockey circles. While there is always a chance Antropov cannot keep his hot streak going, it is worth taking a shot on him if you are looking for scoring help. Antropov is owned in only 2 percent of all fantasy leagues polled.
Brad Boyes, center/right wing, New York Islanders
The Islanders forward has collected points in three straight games, and goals in two straight games. In a five point week, Boyes also contributed three points with the man advantage. The Islanders also have looked better of late, so Boyes may be a case of a player gaining confidence on a team that is gaining confidence as a whole. Also, in some leagues, Boyes is a player that can play both center and right wing, so that adds to his value. If you are looking for scoring depth, Boyes could be the guy that can help your team as long as he stays hot. Boyes is owned in only 19 percent of all fantasy leagues polled.
Brian Gionta, left wing, Montreal Canadiens
Gionta has been on a bit of a scoring run of late, collecting four points in his last three games. Gionta has also contributed two power play points. Gionta is one of those players that has the ability to put together scoring points in a short amount of time and also has the ability to help your fantasy team if you are looking for some added scoring depth. Gionta is owned in only 7 percent of all fantasy leagues polled.
That will do it for this week's edition of the Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire. Make sure you check back for the Fantasy Hockey Planner and look for Fantasy Hockey Trends earlier next week as we help you win your fantasy hockey week and leagues.
