1B | Brett Pill | San Francisco Giants | Injury, Fantasy

1B | Ryan Howard | Philadelphia Phillies | Fantasy
One scout expressed concern with Philadelphia Phillies 1B Ryan Howard, even though he has been hitting the ball well. "Howard was hobbling around a little and struggled versus good stuff. I didn't see enough to make a call, but I'd have concern about whether he's on a quicker decline," the scout said.

Second Baseman

2B | Bill Hall | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Injury
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 2B Bill Hall (calf, quadriceps) underwent an MRI Thursday, March 14, because he has had issues with his calf before. He does not know how long he will be out but hopes to return in time to compete for a spot on the roster.

Shortstop

SS | Wilmer Flores | New York Mets | Transaction
The New York Mets reassigned SS Wilmer Flores, INF Josh Satin and P Carlos Torres to minor league camp.

SS | Hiroyuki Nakajima | Oakland Athletics | Fantasy
Oakland Athletics SS Hiroyuki Nakajima has admitted that he's not nearly comfortable this spring as he was in the Japanese League. "I've been wondering and thinking," Nakajima said about his offensive game. "I'm definitely not at the comfort level I was in Japan." He thinks he'll settle down eventually, but probably not before the start of the season. Nakajima is hitting just .240 (6-for-25) with 10 strikeouts and one extra-base hit. "It looks like he's drifting a little bit," manager Bob Melvin said. "Some of the video we've seen, he's on his back leg a little more. But you know what? There are a lot of things he's dealing with right now. When you don't get off to the type of start that maybe you would like, swinging the bat, it's tough, because he wants to make a good impression right away."

SS | Jed Lowrie | Oakland Athletics | Injury, Fantasy
Oakland Athletics 2Bs Jemile Weeks (shoulder) and Scott Sizemore have underwhelmed this spring, and Weeks lost two weeks to a shoulder injury. Weeks should be returning Friday, March 15, and Sizemore has just three hits in 21 at-bats. SS Jed Lowrie, as a result, could open the season as the starting second baseman. Lowrie is hitting .375 with two home runs and nine RBIs. However, the team isn't exactly sold on SS Hiroyuki Nakajima at shortstop. "Certainly Jed Lowrie is a guy that we're going to have to find a spot for him somewhere the way he's playing now," manager Bob Melvin said. "He's certainly making a case for himself to be in there somewhere. Whether that's every day at a position or moving around, which you've seen him do here in spring, that's still open for debate, too." Weeks or Sizemore are likely to be sent to the minors to start the season.

SS | Jose Reyes | Toronto Blue Jays | Fantasy
Scouts at the World Baseball Classic are impressed with the team attitude of Toronto Blue Jays SS Jose Reyes with Team Dominican Republic. "Everyone is just raving about how good he has been with teammates and fans," a scout said, adding that it was "different from what a lot of people think."

SS | Pete Kozma | St. Louis Cardinals | Fantasy
St. Louis Cardinals SS Pete Kozma will serve as the team's starting shortstop this year. 2Bs Daniel Descalso and Matt Carpenter are both playing very well as they battle for playing time at second base.

SS | Derek Jeter | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy
New York Yankees SS Derek Jeter (ankle) was pleased with his progress and how he felt after playing the field for the first time Wednesday, March 13. "There's normal soreness. That's expected," Jeter said. "You have to play through it because I haven't been doing things for quite some time, so there's soreness there. As long as the bone is healed, the soreness you can work through." Manager Joe Girardi said he plans to have Jeter play in back-to-back games soon.

Happ figures to draw significant trade interest, but Toronto thinks he has value starting or relieving at Class AAA, according to a major league executive familiar with the team's plans. C Henry Blanco has the edge as the backup catcher, but the team thinks Thole will be valuable over the next few years.

C | Eli Whiteside | Texas Rangers | Injury

OF | Yasiel Puig | Los Angeles Dodgers | Fantasy
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said OF Yasiel Puig won't be ready to open the year on the roster. "No, it's not the best thing for him," Mattingly said. "He won't want to hear that. He's been good, but we've seen a lot of things that tell us he's still young and needs work. The guys tell you when they're ready. When he's ready, he'll tear it up (in the minors) If he doesn't, he's not quite ready." Puig is hitting .424 and has 10 strikeouts and no walks in 33 at-bats.

OF | Kirk Nieuwenhuis | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Randall Delgado impressed Thursday, March 14, by throwing four shutout innings. He is competing with SPs Patrick Corbin and Tyler Skaggs for the No. 5 rotation post. "That's as good as we've seen this spring out of our staff," Kirk Gibson said of Delgado. "He looked really good, had good velocity, all his pitches were working. He got into some trouble early and got out of it. That's the kind of guy that we were hoping we'd get."

SP | Randy Wells | Texas Rangers | Fantasy,
Texas Rangers SP Randy Wells gave up one run in five innings Thursday, March 14, while giving up three hits and walking four and striking out four. "From the get go, I felt good," Wells said. "I was able to make a pitch when I needed to and it was nice to get out there, stretch it out and go five innings." The outing was likely good enough to keep him in the competition with SPs Robbie Ross and Justin Grimm for the last rotation spot. P Nick Tepesch remains a dark horse candidate.

"They keep getting feedback and filing information away. What they get is invaluable. There's still things here they won't get in Twin Lakes. As long as the innings are there... We have a split-squad coming up. I'll leave that in Rick (Adair's) hands. He's very good with that," Showalter said.

SP | Kyle Lohse | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy,
Free-agent SP Kyle Lohse (Cardinals) is working out at a facility in Arizona and is facing hitters, throwing 85 pitches in his most recent outing, according to his agent, Scott Boras. The Texas Rangers remain in contact with him, according to major league sources, but Boras said multiple teams are interested. Teams are hesitant to sign Lohse because of the first-round compensation he comes with, but executives are also citing his high asking price - a three-year deal with "big" average salaries. The Rangers have the 24th overall pick in the first round and gained a 30th overall pick with OF Josh Hamilton signing with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
