"The past few years I've had a tendency to dip my shoulders a little bit and I was working on staying back a little more," he said. "It was good work. I understand why they came and got me this early. There's no need for me to throw as many pitches as I did in one inning. I wasn't upset about that, and it gives me a chance to get work in at my own pace." Lyles is 0-3 with a 25.20 ERA this spring in five innings over three starts, but he said he's not concerned.

SP | Erik Bedard | Houston Astros | Injury, Fantasy,

"It's nice to see him get back out there and compete again," said pitching coach Carl Willis. "He felt great. I thought his fastball was good, his changeup was right there as it always is and he threw some good sliders as well. Most importantly, he felt good, so we'll see him again in five days." Hernandez's fastball was in the 91-92 mph range. He's expected to make four more spring training starts.

Rodriguez's fastball topped out at 97 mph but he later admitted that he wasn't throwing at 100 percent force or arm strength, after finding out during his bullpen sessions that he could still be effective without overexerting himself.

RP | Bill Bray | Washington Nationals | Fantasy
Washington Nationals RP Bill Bray was sent to minor league camp to work on fixing his mechanics in a less stressful environment. If he is not called up to the parent club by June, he is allowed to opt out of his contract. Bray is throwing in the low 90s but he is working with pitching coach Steve McCatty to rid himself of bad habits that resulted from battling a groin injury during most of last season. He had always thrown from a high three-quarters arm slot but has been throwing recently with his arm above his head.

He also displayed his biting slider after taking nine days between outings to work with pitching coach Juan Nieves on footwork and the angle of his delivery. Bard worked to keep his right shoulder from dipping and creating a side-to-side motion with his pitches instead of up-and-down. "He stayed behind a lot of fastballs," said manager John Farrell. "It was improved command, improved velocity. It was a very good day for him."
