Another week is behind us in the fantasy hockey season, and it is time to once again take a run through the fantasy hockey waiver wire. With the shortened NHL season, injuries are playing a bigger role than they normally would, and thus wreaking havoc on fantasy leagues. Who are the players you need to know about that could help you win your week and ultimately your league?
Jannik Hansen, left wing, Vancouver Canucks
Hansen had a terrific week for the Canucks, checking in with three goals and two assists this week. If you are looking for scoring depth, Hansen may be worth a look in deeper leagues as long as he continues to contribute at the current pace he is on, which would give him career highs in most offensive categories over the course of an 82-game season. Hansen also was a plus-3 on the week, and is a plus-7 on the year, so he can contribute to that scoring category, as well. Hansen is owned in just 5 percent of all fantasy hockey leagues polled.
Michael Grabner, right wing, New York Islanders
The Islanders winger has been a bit of a tough case to figure out and that has played a role in his fantasy hockey value. After scoring 34 goals two years ago, Grabner scored only 20 last season and just checked in with his 10th goal of the season this week. Grabner has scored in three straight games going into Saturday's action, though, so it appears he may have figured out his scoring issues. If Grabner can find the pace that made him a 34-goal scorer of two seasons ago, his value sky rockets in terms of fantasy hockey. If you need scoring help, pick Grabner up and hope he can keep finding the back of the net. Grabner is owned in only 21 percent of all fantasy leagues polled.
Bryan Bickell, left wing, Chicago Blackhawks
Bickell has been on a bit of an offensive tear of late, checking in with four goals over his last five games. Bickell's value could see a spike with some of the injuries the Blackhawks have suffered over the last week. If you are looking to add offense to your roster, Bickell could be a low-risk, high-reward gamble as he will likely see more ice time over the next couple weeks. Bickell is owned in only 3 percent of all fantasy leagues polled.
Derek Stepan, center, New York Rangers
Stepan has been terrific over his last five games, collecting two goals and four assists over that span. Stepan has been on a line with Rick Nash, so as long as that line stays together, Stepan should have every chance to continue racking up points. Stepan also added three points with the man advantage over the past week, which just adds to his fantasy hockey value. Stepan is owned in 29 percent of all fantasy hockey leagues polled.
That will do it for this week's edition of the Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire. Make sure you check back for the Fantasy Hockey Planner and look for Fantasy Hockey Trends as we help you win your fantasy hockey week and leagues.
