2013 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan

by Cory J. Bonini on March 7, 2013 @ 18:05:25 PDT

Central Michigan senior offensive tackle Eric Fisher is among the elite prospects, regardless of position, in the 2013 NFL Draft. An offseason of being dominant in workouts has solidified Fisher's spot within the early stages of the NFL Draft.

Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan
Elite prospect

  • Great athleticism for his size (6-foot-7, 306 pounds)
  • Long arms (34 1/2 inches) and big hands (10 1/2 inches)
  • Showed progress throughout his time at Central Michigan
  • Very competitive
  • Hard worker with sound overall technique
  • Breaks down well in space
  • Light on his feet
  • Very good blocker at the second level
  • Still developing physically and technically as a player
  • Capable of playing left or right tackle
  • Good character
  • Durable (missed only two games)

  • Lacks elite strength
  • Needs to consistently fire out
  • Possibly scheme-limited - best fits an athletic zone-blocking system
  • Has to work on improving his hand placement and quickness
  • Limited exposure to NFL-caliber pass rushers

Expected draft placement

There is an outside chance Fisher goes No. 1 overall to the Kansas City Chiefs, but it seems more likely that he will be slotted somewhere between No. 4 and the 11th overall pick. The Philadelphia Eagles hold the fourth selection, and upgrading their offensive line is a must. It is hard to imagine Fisher sliding to, let alone past, the tackle-starved San Diego Chargers at the 11th pick. The Arizona Cardinals (No. 7) are in play as well, but if Fisher doesn't go to Philly, count on the Detroit Lions (No. 5) as a wildcard in the Fisher derby.
