Howard wants to get his "game legs" under him, and he's 4-for-6 against left-handers with two doubles.

1B | Joey Votto | Cincinnati Reds | Fantasy
Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto is unsure if he'll play for Team Canada in the World Baseball Classic, and if he does, he wants to have a limited role. "Joey said if he goes he'd like to DH," manager Dusty Baker said. "That's a different thing altogether, because no matter what you do, it's hard to simulate standing on your feet for nine innings."

Second Baseman

2B | Elliot Johnson | Kansas City Royals | Injury, Fantasy
Kansas City Royals SS Elliot Johnson (knee) is likely to remain out another day or two to recover from a bruised left knee.

2B | Robinson Cano | New York Yankees | Fantasy
New York Yankees 2B Robinson Cano's agent, Scott Boras, made it seem as though the team's contract extension offer to his client did not change their thinking. "Robinson is focused on preparing for and playing the 2013 season," Boras said. "By agreement discussions shall remain confidential. Also by agreement, discussions will cease if they are a distraction to Robinson's performance and leadership of the 2013 Yankees." It's clear both sides are far apart in talks, and a deal remains not in sight.

SS | Joe Panik | San Francisco Giants | Injury
San Francisco Giants SS Joe Panik (hamstring) has been held out of games as a precaution due to a tight right hamstring.

SS | Aledmys Diaz | free agent | Free Agents
Cuban SS Aledmys Diaz's asking price is too high for the Minnesota Twins' taste right now.

SS | Bobby Crosby | Milwaukee Brewers | Injury
Milwaukee Brewers SS Bobby Crosby (thigh) has not played in a spring training game yet because of a left thigh strain. Manager Ron Roenicke said Crosby still feels the injury when he tries to run. The team wants to let the injury completely heal before he returns to minimize a possible aggravation. Roenicke said Crosby still has enough time to make an impact during spring training.

3B | Nick Castellanos | Detroit Tigers | Fantasy
Detroit Tigers 3B Nick Castellanos will likely go to Double-A later in spring camp as the team makes its minor-league assignments. The team believes Castellanos needs dedicated work in the outfield, which is where he was forced to move last year when 3B Miguel Cabrera dropped anchor at Castellanos' natural position, third base.

Morel was primarily a shortstop in high school and as a freshman at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo. "My goal still is to play third base every day," Morel said. "I think that kind of has to be your mindset. And if they want me to play other positions and that's going to get me to break camp and on that 25-man roster, then I'll do anything."

3B | Will Middlebrooks | Boston Red Sox | Injury, Fantasy
Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell said the team isn't looking to add any depth at third base after 3B Will Middlebrooks (wrist) was injured Wednesday, Feb. 27. "How do we feel about it?" Farrell said. "Well, when you get into the depth behind Will, we're looking at more utility-like guys rather than someone who would profile at that position long-term. We're confident with the people in camp. There's no additions in camp that are being contemplated or imminent. That's kind of where we are." INF Pedro Ciriaco would likely be the next in line if Middlebrooks were to miss any time. Middlebrooks will wear a protective batting glove on his wrist moving forward.

Catcher

C | Yan Gomes | Cleveland Indians | Fantasy
Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes won't win the backup catching job over C Lou Marson, but the team would like to determine if Gomes is fit to be an everyday catcher at some point down the road.

OF | Marlon Byrd | New York Mets | Fantasy
New York Mets OF Marlon Byrd has a decent chance to stick with the parent club when it breaks camp and heads north, but Byrd has said if he doesn't make the roster then he may call it a career. "I kind of look at it as a last chance," Byrd said. "If I don't make this team, I don't see many other chances in baseball. That's the way I'm playing, like it is my last chance."

Detroit Tigers OF Brennan Boesch (oblique), who hasn't played any spring games this week due to an oblique injury, doesn't have a clear path to playing time with the team and his trade value is low due to his ailment. Boesch could help his trade value if he gets healthy and performs well in spring training. General manager Dave Dombrowski said that Boesch won't be sent to the minors, so it looks like he'll be traded if he doesn't make the roster.

OF | Matt Kemp | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Fantasy

SP | Jerome Williams | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Fantasy,
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jerome Williams allowed five runs (four earned) and five hits while walking two in two innings Thursday, Feb. 28, to raise his spring ERA to 11.25 in four innings. "Jerome is working really hard, but he's just getting behind every count," manager Mike Scioscia said. "He hasn't been able to put guys away, and that's a tough combo if you're not getting ahead and you're not putting guys away."

SP | Zack Wheeler | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy,
The New York Mets are being extremely cautious with SP Zack Wheeler (oblique), who will most likely miss his next spring start. He felt better Thursday, Feb. 28, and should be back on a mound soon. SP | Johan Santana | New York Mets | Fantasy,
New York Mets SP Johan Santana is on target to make his spring debut March 10, according to manager Terry Collins. Santana will continue throwing with the goal of playing catch at 120 feet. New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia (elbow) is likely to make only three spring starts this year, and he likely won't make his first one until March 15. He'll throw a simulated game March 5, and his first spring start could come as early as March 10. "I consider a simulated game almost a game," manager Joe Girardi said. "For me, he's really throwing games in a sense. I count those as innings." Sabathia has averaged five starts and 18 innings pitched in the previous four spring trainings.

SP | Fernando Abad | Washington Nationals | Fantasy,
The Washington Nationals have been impressed with RP Fernando Abad so far in camp. "I was really impressed with the way he threw the other day," manager Davey Johnson said. "The way he attacked the hitters (Wednesday), he threw a couple good curveballs. That was great. (Pitching coach Steve McCatty) wanted him to throw another inning. I said, 'No. I want to see that again the day after tomorrow.'" The Nats have only one other left-hander penciled into their bullpen (RP Zach Duke). Abad said his poor 2012 season was attributed to arm fatigue, and he built his endurance by running long distances in the offseason. Also, his arm slot was too far from his body a year ago, which led to him flying open when he threw. He worked this winter to stay closed and hold his arms higher, and the results so far this spring are encouraging - no hits, two strikeouts and two walks.

SP | Aroldis Chapman | Cincinnati Reds | Fantasy,
Cincinnati Reds SP Aroldis Chapman retired all six batters he faced while striking out one in his first spring start Thursday, Feb. 28. SP | Jair Jurrjens | Baltimore Orioles | Fantasy,
Baltimore Orioles SP Jair Jurrjens struggled in his outing Thursday, Feb. 28, and he once again struggled with his command. "My timing today was way off," said Jurrjens, who said it was a combination of things, including flying open in his delivery, that led to three walks. "Yes, (it's) a mechanics issue. I think I have been having bad habits for a couple of years. I just got to figure out how to get the good habits back, the good timing. Get that feel back." He said his poor mechanics recently are related to the knee injury that he has dealt with in his career. Jurrjens has allowed four earned runs and five hits while walking four in two innings this spring.

SP | Danny Hultzen | Seattle Mariners | Fantasy,
The Seattle Mariners won't rush SPs Danny Hultzen and Taijuan Walker to the starting rotation this year. Now I have to take my foot off of the gas pedal. I am the type of person that gets excited and wants to keep pushing, but this type of stuff (strained side) it feels great so now I have to ease off on it. I am excited. It is fine today." He'll throw again Saturday, March 2. The team isn't putting a timetable on when he'll be ready.

SP | Jake Westbrook | St. Louis Cardinals | Injury, Fantasy,

SP | Brett Anderson | Oakland Athletics | Fantasy,
The Oakland Athletics have named SP Brett Anderson as their opening day starter.

SP | Kyle Lohse | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy,
The Cleveland Indians are not pursuing free-agent SP Kyle Lohse (Cardinals) because they have already have used a lot of money this offseason. The team would not be worried about the draft-pick compensation if they did pursue him.

Relief Pitcher

RP | Pedro Feliciano | New York Mets | Injury, Fantasy,

"That's what I wanted to do, field some bunts, go after some balls in between first and the mound, and just plant and throw," Rivera said. "It feels good, guys, it feels real good. It was perfect." There is not date for Rivera to throw in a spring game yet.
