2013 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama

by Cory J. Bonini on April 22, 2013 @ 13:32:18 PDT

Alabama's Dee Milliner rates as one of the best cornerback prospects in the 2013 NFL Draft, but a recent shoulder injury could cause him to fall a few spots on some draft boards.

Milliner posted 54 tackles and 18 pass breakups in 2012. He has made 109 total tackles over the last two seasons.

Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama
Man-to-man prospect

  • Great size at 6-foot-1, 198 pounds, with long arms
  • Physical corner with bump-and-run skills
  • Smooth hip sink
  • Big hitter
  • Confident - plays with swagger and moxie
  • Intelligent defender - reads routes and the quarterback
  • Top-flight read-and-react skills and awareness
  • Regularly challenges the receiver to make a difficult catch
  • Special teams experience
  • Considerable upside
  • Instinctual

  • Average straight-line speed
  • Can play overly aggressive, especially when looking into the backfield
  • Limited experience - only one year as a full-time starter
  • Sloppy backpedal at times - can get too high
  • Could improve his tackling technique

Expected draft placement

Milliner participated in everything at the Scouting Combine but the bench press and is recovering from surgery to repair a torn shoulder labrum.

The Alabama standout should go as high as the Detroit Lions at the fifth pick or No. 6 to the Cleveland Browns and is unlikely to slide past the New York Jets' second pick (No. 13).
