2013 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Dion Jordan, DE/OLB, Oregon

Oregon senior defensive end/outside linebacker Dion Jordan brings his explosive game to the 2013 NFL Draft.

In 2012, Jordan played around 225 pounds. His lingering shoulder injury prohibited his workout regimen, and Chip Kelly's high-pace offense meant the Ducks' D was on the field a lot.

As versatile as they make 'em

Strengths

Extremely explosive off the edge
Massive wingspan
Impressive versatility - has played with a hand in the dirt, as a standup rush end and as a slot defensive back
Plenty of upside
Good hustle and effort
Quick acceleration and first step
Does a good job of disengaging with his hands
Has the frame to add weight
Freakish athleticism

Weaknesses

Lanky frame - 6-foot-6, 243 pounds
Overpursues at times - can take himself out of the play
Struggles with double teams - simply not strong enough to shed multiple or bigger blockers
Still raw, relying too much on natural athleticism - may not be an immediate impact player at the next level
What position is he in the NFL?
Durability concerns - several injuries throughout his career, including a torn shoulder labrum in 2012

Expected draft placement

Jordan has a wide array of teams that could potentially draft him, mainly because of his versatility. He realistically could go as high as the Jacksonville Jaguars (No. 2), Oakland Raiders (No. 3) or Philadelphia Eagles (No. 4), but it is doubful he will fall past No. 9 overall to the New York Jets.
