Quarterback

QB | Philip Rivers | San Diego Chargers | Fantasy
San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers has seen his play slip over the last two seasons, particularly in terms of ball security; however, new head coach Mike McCoy is confident he can get the best out of Rivers in 2013. "I think Philip's gonna do a great job with us," McCoy said. "We're very fortunate to have him here. A very talented player and a great guy to have as the face of your franchise."

QB | Robert Griffin III | Washington Redskins | Injury, Fantasy
Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (knee) said via Twitter he will not put his career in jeopardy just to be on the field for Week 1 of the 2013 season. Griffin earlier tweeted the link to a new Adidas commercial that ends with his intention to return by Week 1. "Feel like I need to say this … Although my goal is to start Week 1, that doesn't mean I will compromise my career to do so," Griffin said. The quarterback added, "Starting Week 1 will be the result of healing, hard work, dedication and God's anointing. No rush, just determination."

QB | JaMarcus Russell | Free Agent | Free Agents
Free-agent QB JaMarcus Russell (Raiders) posted a time of 5.20 seconds in the 40-yard dash during a recent training session. Russell's goal during training is to attain 4.8 seconds. He also cleared 29 inches in the vertical jump.

QB | Tony Romo | Dallas Cowboys | Fantasy
Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones isn't confident the team will work out a new deal with QB Tony Romo in a timely manner.

QB | Tyler Wilson | NFL Draft Prospect | Draft
Arkansas QB Tyler Wilson said he sees himself as a first-round pick in the NFL Draft. "I feel that way," Wilson said. "I know where I stack up and a number of things I can bring an NFL team. I think I'm worthy."

QB | Collin Klein | NFL Draft Prospect | Draft, Fantasy
Kansas State QB Collin Klein will throw and take part in all drills at the NFL Scouting Combine.

QB | Matt Ryan | Atlanta Falcons | Free Agents, Fantasy
While Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan will be pursued for a contract extension this offseason, the front office's top priority is convincing TE Tony Gonzalez to stave off his expected retirement for one more season.

Running Back

RB | Bryce Brown | Philadelphia Eagles | Fantasy
Philadelphia Eagles RB Bryce Brown put the ball on the ground four times, or once every 28.8 carries, during the 2012 season. Brown is expected to see more playing time in new head coach Chip Kelly's offense, as long as he can take care of the football. "I look at running backs that run with that style, look at the Adrian Petersons, early in their career, how many times he fumbled," running backs coach Duce Staley said. "Not comparing the two, but I look at guys that once they're in a hole, or once they're around a crowd, you've got to have that awareness. Guys are around, guys poking at the ball, it's their job. Bryce understands that. And I was able to show him some things on film that is going to help him. And (we'll) definitely do drills. We're going to do that all day, every day."

RB | Steven Jackson | Free Agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
Free-agent RB Steven Jackson (Rams) wants to return to the St. Louis Rams next season, so it's possible that the two sides could work out a new deal.

RB | Marcus Lattimore | NFL Draft Prospect | Injury, Fantasy
South Carolina RB Marcus Lattimore (knee) is expected to be ready to play in the season opener of the 2013 season after rehabbing a hyperextended right knee. "I'll continue to go to work until I'm back to 100 percent and better than I was before." Lattimore said "It can be done, and I will do it. That's my goal, and I will do it," of being ready for Week 1 in September in the NFL.

Wide Receiver

WR | Keenan Allen | NFL Draft Prospect | Injury, Draft
California WR Keenan Allen (knee) will run routes at his school's Pro Day March 14, but he will not do the bulk of his testing until he has more time to heal in early April.

WR | James Jones | Green Bay Packers | Fantasy
Green Bay Packers WR James Jones said he likes the trio of himself, WR Jordy Nelson and WR Randall Cobb heading into the 2013 season, even if impending free-agent WR Greg Jennings signs elsewhere. "I can see me, Jordy and Randall getting about 80 catches apiece. I can see us all having over 1,000 yards," Jones said. He added it is doubtful a receiver on the team would catch 100 balls, only because QB Aaron Rodgers likes to spread the football around.

WR | Mike Wallace | Free Agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent WR Mike Wallace has 21 dropped passes over the last four seasons; however, he has also produced 32 touchdowns in his first four seasons.

WR | Steve Breaston | Free Agent | Transaction, Free Agents, Fantasy
The Pittsburgh Steelers do not have a lot of room under the salary cap to sign many free-agents, but recently released WR Steve Breaston (Chiefs) could be on their radar. Breaston was a favorite of offensive coordinator Todd Haley, who was previously the head coach with the Kansas City Chiefs.

WR | Emmanuel Sanders | Pittsburgh Steelers | Free Agents, Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Pittsburgh Steelers restricted free-agent WR Emmanuel Sanders is expected to be back in 2013, and he is likely to be elevated to the starting lineup since the team is not expected to bring back impending free-agent WR Mike Wallace (Steelers).

WR | Pierre Garcon | Washington Redskins | Injury, Fantasy
Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon (foot) will not require surgery to repair a plantar plate in his right foot, barring a setback, according to a league source. The second toe on Garcon's right foot is healing, and more rest is the prescription, according to the source.

WR | Mohamed Sanu | Cincinnati Bengals | Injury, Draft
Cincinnati Bengals WR Mohamed Sanu (foot) is running routes after getting cleared early in February. "It's great. It feels good. I've been working out and running," Sanu said this week during an interview about his experience at least year's NFL Scouting Combine. "I've been running routes for a while and it feels good." Sanu missed the last six games of 2012 with a stress fracture in his foot.

Tight End

TE | Kevin Boss | Free Agent | Transaction, Free Agents, Fantasy
The Kansas City Chiefs released TE Kevin Boss and WR Steve Breaston Tuesday, Feb. 19.

TE | Dustin Keller | Free Agent | Draft, Free Agents
The New York Jets are expected to meet with the agent for impending free-agent TE Dustin Keller later this week at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis. The two sides have not exchanged proposals, but it would make sense for the Jets to bring back Keller as the new offense they are going to run needs a pass-catching tight end.

TE | David Thomas | Free Agent | Transaction
The New Orleans Saints released TE David Thomas and waived CB Johnny Patrick Tuesday, Feb. 19.

TE | Tony Gonzalez | Free Agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
While Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan will be pursued for a contract extension this offseason, the front office's top priority is convincing TE Tony Gonzalez to stave off his expected retirement for one more season.

Offensive Tackle

OT | Jake Long | Free Agent | Free Agents
Miami Dolphins OT Jake Long said he would like to return to the Dolphins, but that is on them to decide what direction they want to go in. "We're going to have to see," Long said in an interview that will air on Tuesday's edition of "NFL Total Access." "The last five years I've really enjoyed being a part of the Dolphins. They have such a great tradition of football there. The community and fans have really embraced me and I've loved playing there."

OT | Jason Smith | Free Agent | Transaction, Fantasy
The New York Jets released LB Calvin Pace, S Eric Smith and TE Jason Smith and waived TE Josh Baker Tuesday, Feb. 19.

OT | Ryan Clady | Free Agent | Free Agents
Denver Broncos impending free-agent OT Ryan Clady voiced his position on the team possibly placing the franchise tag on him this offseason. "I don't think it's a sign of disrespect. I just think it's kind of part of the business. Am I okay with it? No. But it's not like I'm out on the streets right now. I know I will have a job at least for one more year so, I'm still good. I would like to have long-term security in Denver, but if I don't get anything done before the deadline then who knows," Clady said.

Defensive Line

DL | Michael Johnson | Free Agent | Injury, Free Agents, Fantasy
Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew once again reiterated that he has no plans to use the franchise tag on any of the team's players this offseason. Last year, the team placed the tag on DE Cliff Avril, but they would have to spend $12.7 million if they wanted to tag him again this season. S Louis Delmas (knees) would have been a candidate for the tag had he not injured both of his knees in the last two years. Detroit wants to re-sign Delmas, but to a short-term deal for less than the $6.8 million tag for safeties. The pool of free-agent safeties may be thin this year because of the cheap price to franchise them, and the Lions need to sign two safeties this offseason, which could drive up Delmas' price on the open market. DE Michael Johnson is a candidate for the franchise tag, too.

DL | Julius Peppers | Chicago Bears | Free Agents, Fantasy
The Chicago Bears would save a considerable amount on the salary cap by restructuring DE Julius Peppers' contract. He is due $12.9 million in base salary in 2013 and has a salary cap charge of $16.383 million, which is approximately 13 percent of the team's entire cap. If Chicago converted $9 million of Peppers' base salary into a bonus payment it would save them $6 million against his year's cap.

Defensive Tackle

DT | Kawann Short | NFL Draft Prospect | Injury, Draft
Purdue DT Kawann Short (hamstring) will not work out at the NFL Scouting Combine due to a hamstring injury. Short will hold a personal workout for teams at the Purdue campus March 25.

Defensive End

DE | Cliff Avril | Free Agent | Injury, Free Agents, Fantasy

Linebacker

LB | Brian Cushing | Houston Texans | Injury
Houston Texans LB Brian Cushing (knee) hopes to begin jogging by next week in the next step of his rehab process. "Really looking forward to that," Cushing said. "Really, where I stand right now is just looking forward to the next step always and what's coming up and my progression. It's been a long, long journey and I still have a lot to go, but you know, it just makes me cherish playing that much more, because when it's taken away for you, you realize how much you love it."

LB | Anthony Spencer | Free Agent | Free Agents
Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said the team isn't ruling out the possibility of using the franchise tag. "We have Plan A, B, C, D, E," Jones said. "Some of those plans include the franchise tag." Impending free-agent LB Anthony Spencer would appear the likely candidate to receive the tag.

LB | Larry Foote | Free Agent | Free Agents
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been talking with impending free-agent LB Larry Foote about a new deal. "(The Steelers) and my agent have been talking back and forth. I guess it's a money thing right now," Foote said Tuesday, Feb. 19.

LB | Manti Te'o | NFL Draft Prospect | Draft
Notre Dame LB Manti Te'o has not let an online hoax interfere with his preparation for the NFL Scouting Combine. "He missed precisely one day," said former NFL QB Chris Weinke, the director of football operations at IMG Academy, where Te'o has been preparing for the combine. "He's gone about his business and been the same guy all along. I really admire that because a lot of guys his age would not be able to handle this as well as he has. I haven't seen any signs of it being a distraction, and I expect him to go up to Indianapolis and have a great combine."

LB | Bart Scott | Free Agent | Transaction, Draft, Fantasy
The agent for LB Bart Scott (Jets) said the door is not closed on his client returning to the team. The Jets released Scott Tuesday, Feb. 19. The move also allows Scott to speak to teams during the NFL combine this week.

LB | Calvin Pace | Free Agent | Transaction, Fantasy
The New York Jets released LB Calvin Pace, S Eric Smith and TE Jason Smith and waived TE Josh Baker Tuesday, Feb. 19.

LB | Clay Matthews | Green Bay Packers | Fantasy
The Green Bay Packers will likely have to make LB Clay Matthews one of the highest-paid linebackers in the league in order to get him to commit to a long-term deal. Matthews will count $4.91 million against the salary cap this year, making him the eighth-most expensive player heading into 2013. He will likely command a deal that would pay him $8 to $11 million per year that would guarantee him around $29.5 million. Green Bay also has the option of placing the franchise tag on Matthews for around $9 million.

Cornerback

CB | Asante Samuel | Atlanta Falcons | Free Agents
Atlanta Falcons CB Asante Samuel said New England Patriots impending free-agent WR Wes Welker should look out for himself and take the most lucrative deal possible in the offseason. "He made a comment that I chased the money, and not the championship," Asante said of Welker. "... So here's my advice to you, Welker - You better chase the money, brother."

CB | Tyrann Mathieu | NFL Draft Prospect | Draft
Former Louisiana State CB Tyrann Mathieu recently posted a time of 4.47 seconds in the 40-yard dash in preparation for the NFL Scouting Combine. Projected by many to be a fourth-round pick in the NFL Draft, Mathieu can help his stock by posting a good 40-yard time.

CB | Johnny Patrick | Free Agent | Transaction
The New Orleans Saints released TE David Thomas and waived CB Johnny Patrick Tuesday, Feb. 19.

CB | Charles Tillman | Chicago Bears | Free Agents, Fantasy
The Chicago Bears could target CB Charles Tillman for a multiyear extension. He is due $8 million, with a matching cap hit, in 2013. A long-term deal would lower his salary cap charge for this year.

Strong Safety

SS | Jonathan Cyprien | NFL Draft Prospect | Draft
The Washington Redskins are likely to try and bolster their secondary in the 2013 NFL Draft. According to one draft guru, Florida International SS Jonathan Cyprien would make sense with the 51st overall pick.

SS | William Moore | Free Agent | Transaction, Free Agents
The Atlanta Falcons are not expected to use the franchise tag on anyone this offseason, according to a source. Even though re-signing impending free-agent SS William Moore (Falcons) is seen as a priority, the tag will apparently not be used by the organization.

Free Safety

FS | Eric Smith | Free Agent | Free Agents
It would make sense if the Buffalo Bills targeted FS Eric Smith, according to Rich Cimini. Cimini points out new Bills defensive coordinator Mike Pettine is a big fan of Smith's intangibles.

FS | Louis Delmas | Free Agent | Injury, Free Agents, Fantasy
