1) Jed Lowrie, SS, Oakland Athletics Team: Josh Shepardson, Baseball Prospectus | Roster Lowrie will fill my middle infield roster spot until Jurickson Profar receives regular playing time. Lowrie is expected to play a utility infielder role for the Athletics, playing nearly every day, and that will allow him to add position eligibility and become a valuable bench option that provides roster flexibility.
2) Chris Carter, OF, Houston Astros Team: Mark Bloom, RotoExperts/SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio | Roster Power seems to be hard to come by in drafts, so I decided to take Carter. His recent trade to hitter-friendly Minute Maid Park should ensure that he knocks out at least 30 HR this season. 3) Mark Reynolds, 1B, Cleveland Indians Team: Ray Flowers, Baseball Guys/SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio | Roster Few seem to remember, but from 2008 last season an average Reynolds season has led to 33 homers, 88 RBIs, 83 runs, 10 steals. So what if he's hit .229? 4) Carlos Quentin, OF, San Diego Padres Team: Bill Macey, Baseball HQ | Roster Quentin is the third leg of my Corey Hart-Lance Berkman platoon - my hope is that at any given time, two of them are healthy. On a stand-alone basis, Quentin has excellent upside with the potential for 30+ HR with the fences coming in at PETCO. 5) Josh Beckett, SP, Los Angeles Dodgers Team: Jeff Paur, RTSports | Roster I need to add a few more starters and felt Beckett was the best on the board. He threw well for the Dodgers after getting dealt to them late last season (2.93 ERA in seven starts). I'm hoping he can build on that and forget his last few seasons in Boston. 6) A.J. Ellis, C, Los Angeles Dodgers Team: Michael Stein, The Hardball Times | Roster Finally, in the 23rd round I drafted a catcher. I won't waste your time by waxing poetic about Ellis because, quite frankly, there is nothing to wax. I admittedly punted the catcher position knowing I would be left with the scraps. At least Ellis plays mostly every day and won't kill me in batting average.
