1) J.P. Arencibia, C, Toronto Blue Jays Team: Pasko Varnica, Mastersball | Roster I wanted Ryan Doumit, but arrived late so I went with Arencibia while eyeing Carlos Ruiz in a later round.
2) Kyle Seager, 3B, Seattle Mariners Team: Howard Bender, FanGraphs | Roster He's another strong addition who follows my strategy of drafting solid power/speed guys. He's got 20-HR power and double-digit steals potential and should see his batting average climb soon enough with those tasty line drive rates of his. The fences coming in at Safeco Field should also help those home/road splits of his. 3) Manny Machado, 3B, Baltimore Orioles Team: Nicholas Minnix, KFFL | Roster I'm a curmudgeon when it comes to drafting very young players. I don't take their general instability lightly. What does it say that I'm letting a lot ride on one at third base, then? Waiting this long on a third baseman wasn't part of the original plan, but Machado entered when my plan evolved. I love his talent (on par with that of other buzz-worthy 20-year-olds) and the expectations for him (just play ball and grow as a player while hacking at the bottom of the order.) Just get me by. 4) Jason Grilli, RP, Pittsburgh Pirates Team: Tim Heaney, KFFL | Roster His renaissance was bolstered by health and skills improvement. I think Mark Melancon may be a bigger threat than most realize, mainly because of Grilli's age and inexperience in the role, but the incumbent has posted some of the finest relief numbers over the last two years. Now he'll add closures to that line. Bully. 5) Hyun-Jin Ryu, SP, Los Angeles Dodgers Team: Mark Chamberlin, Baseball Sharks | Roster I usually stay away from these types, but I feel more comfortable with Ryu then past Asian cross-overs. K's may not be overwhelming, but pinpoint control could lead to a significantly better WHIP than others available now and this team should net a pile of W's. 6) Anibal Sanchez, SP, Detroit Tigers Team: Steve Gardner, USA TODAY/Sports Weekly | Roster Sanchez was at his best down the stretch (2.21 ERA in his final 61 innings) as the Tigers advanced to the World Series. Though I thought about taking a closer, another solid starter seemed more important with this pick.
