1) Mariano Rivera, RP, New York Yankees Team: Josh Shepardson, Baseball Prospectus | Roster Rivera's recovery from a torn ACL doesn't appear as if it will cost him any time in the regular season. Before the injury he was rock steady, and because the injury wasn't to his arm I believe he'll pick up where he left off as one of the best closers in baseball.
2) Rafael Soriano, RP, Washington Nationals Team: Mark Bloom, RotoExperts/SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio | Roster Once I saw that both the closers I wanted were available I decided to take Soriano over Romo. It was a close call, but Romo's potential inability to pitch multiple nights in a row was the reason I passed on him. 3) Ben Revere, OF, Philadelphia Phillies Team: Ray Flowers, Baseball Guys/SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio | Roster Smart to take him with Juan Pierre and Coco Crisp still on the board? Probably not, but I'm a big fan of Revere's speed game. 4) Alejandro De Aza, OF, Chicago White Sox Team: Bill Macey, Baseball HQ | Roster I was looking to get a speedy OF that had a bit of pop and I think De Aza fits the bill. He's just 28 and plays in a great hitter's park, so I think there's a decent chance he improves on his 2012 season, which was his first full season in the big leagues. 5) Chase Utley, 2B, Philadelphia Phillies Team: Jeff Paur, RTSports | Roster At this point of the draft, I thought Utley was worth the risk. I was looking to get my middle infield spot filled and decided between Utley and Dan Uggla with this pick. I just thought Utley had more upside. Sure, his knees are a mess, but we know what he can do if he is healthy and playing well. 6) Andre Ethier, OF, Los Angeles Dodgers Team: Michael Stein, The Hardball Times | Roster I seriously considered Ichiro Suzuki and Angel Pagan here, but I went for Ethier who is more productive in the homerun and RBI categories. Ethier will be batting in the middle of a potent lineup and should have ample opportunities to hit with men on base. He is capable of hitting close to .300 if he can do better against lefties, but I am fine with production in the .275 range with 20 home runs and 80 RBI from my fourth outfielder.
