Championships aren't won in the first few rounds of fantasy baseball drafts. Winning selections come in the middle and late stanzas, when fantasy baseball sleepers and undervalued players pop up.
Early mockers are letting him fall too far. Most consider Troy Tulowitzki a far safer selection. For power, that's true, and they're both excellent BA providers. Health? Despite recent trials, Reyes played 160 games last year and 153-plus from 2005-2008. Tulowitzki has logged 122 or fewer in half of his six full efforts in the bigs. Environment? Coors Field is offensive paradise, but the comparatively idyllic Rogers Centre also comes with a dangerous lineup, atop which Reyes sits. The turf, while amplifying bodily risk, should augment his speed and, in turn, stolen base success. With his plate-appearance advantage record and domination of a hard-to-grab category, letting him fall out of the first two mixed rounds is inexcusable. -TH Erick Aybar, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim There's really nothing spectacular about this switch-hitter's game. Except that he's made more than 550 plate appearances in each of the past four seasons, is a dependable source of batting average and stolen bases, and is part of one of the most dangerous lineups in the AL, even if he sits near the bottom of it. Fantasy owners might think of shortstops like Elvis Andrus and Alcides Escobar as sexier choices, but if those players are, it's not by much. If you aren't going to splurge on this spot, don't waste several dollars to split hairs. -NM
