The Tampa Bay Rays designated INFs Reid Brignac and Elliot Johnson for assignment Tuesday, Feb. 5, to make room on the roster for RP Kyle Farnsworth and 2B Kelly Johnson. One more roster spot must be cleared when OF Luke Scott's contract is finalized. Both players are expected to clear waivers.

SS | Jurickson Profar | Texas Rangers | Fantasy
Texas Rangers SS Jurickson Profar could be given the chance to play outfield in spring training if it gives him the opportunity to play frequently and make the opening day roster. "Our stance on Jurickson is that if he demonstrates he's one of the best 25 or the best nine and we're comfortable there's enough of an opportunity for him to play and that it doesn't hurt his progress," general manager Jon Daniels said. "I see him long-term as a shortstop or middle infielder. But he may take some balls out there as well. We'll see what happens." Profar or 3B Mike Olt could be auditioned in right field in case OF Nelson Cruz is suspended for performance-enhancing drugs.

Third Baseman

3B | Nolan Arenado | Colorado Rockies | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
The Colorado Rockies are inviting 24 non-roster players to spring camp next week, including seven pitchers with Major League Baseball experience. The full list includes P's Tyler Anderson, Miguel Batista, Chad Bettis, Manuel Corpas, Parker Frazier, Daniel Houston, Logan Kensing, Jeff Manship, Mike McClendon, Nicholas Schmidt, Erick Threets and Chris Volstad; OF's Kent Matthes, Corey Dickerson, and Kyle Parker; INF's Nolan Arenado, Tommy Manzella, Matt McBride, Ben Paulsen and Henry Wrigley; and C's Yorvit Torrealba, Gustavo Molina, Lars Davis and Jose Gonzalez.

3B | Danny Valencia | Baltimore Orioles | Breaking, Fantasy
Baltimore Orioles INF Danny Valencia has been linked to a South Florida clinic that allegedly distributed performance-enhancing drugs to several major league baseball players, according to a report from Yahoo Sports published online Tuesday, Feb. 5. Valencia's name is listed on records obtained by Yahoo from a now-defunct clinic named Biogenesis, which the Miami New Times reported last week had provided PEDs to several major leaguers. "As any innocent person would be, I am shocked and troubled that my name is in any way connected to this story," Valencia said in a statement. "I have never met or spoken to anyone connected with Biogenesis, in fact I had never even heard of this company prior to the New Times' story. I take tremendous pride in the hard work and dedication I put into being a professional baseball player and have never taken PEDs or failed a drug test of any kind during my career."

3B | Scott Rolen | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said Tuesday, Feb. 5, in a radio interview that the roster is "pretty well set," and there is no conversation with free-agent 3B Scott Rolen (Reds).

3B | Alberto Callaspo | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Fantasy
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3B Alberto Callaspo will earn $4.1 million this year and $4.875 million in 2014 as part of his two-year, $8.975 million deal to avoid arbitration. He'll also have the chance to earn more money in performance bonuses. The deal buys time for 3B Kaleb Cowart to develop in the minors.

3B | Russ Canzler | Baltimore Orioles | Transaction, Fantasy
The Baltimore Orioles claimed INF/OF Russ Canzler off waivers from the New York Yankees Tuesday, Feb. 5.

Catcher

C | Jesus Montero | Seattle Mariners | Fantasy
Seattle Mariners C Jesus Montero is named in records from a South Florida anti-aging clinic linked to performance-enhancing drugs. Montero, a top prospect who was traded to the Mariners from the New York Yankees, is just the latest client of ACES, a Brooklyn-based sports agency, who has been linked to Biogenesis, the now-shuttered Coral Gables clinic operated by self-described "biochemist" Anthony Bosch.

C | Francisco Cervelli | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy
New York Yankees C Francisco Cervelli has been linked as a possible client of the Biogenesis anti-aging clinic in Miami that is alleged to have provided performance-enhancing drugs to 3B Alex Rodriguez. In response to the Yahoo! Sports report, Cervelli tweeted: "Following my foot injury in March 2011, I consulted with a number of experts, including Biogenesis clinic, for legal ways to aid my rehab and recovery. I purchased supplements that I am certain were not prohibited by Major League Baseball."

C | Wilson Ramos | Washington Nationals | Injury, Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Washington Nationals C Wilson Ramos (knee) said Tuesday, Feb. 5, that he is feeling strong and better as he makes his way back from major knee surgery. Ramos said he is allowed to practice, but slowly. He added he is able to squat down and run without any pain.

C | Chris Snyder | Washington Nationals | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Washington Nationals Cs Sandy Leon, Carlos Maldonado and Jhonatan Solano will be in big league camp in a week trying to hold off C Chris Snyder from winning the No. 3 job on the organizational depth chart.

C | Kurt Suzuki | Washington Nationals | Injury, Transaction, Fantasy

Cruz is expected to be on time for the first full-squad spring training working Feb. 16 in Arizona.

OF | Ryan Braun | Milwaukee Brewers | Fantasy

OF | Chris Carter | Houston Astros | Fantasy
Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said OF Chris Carter will see plenty of time in left field. He can also play first base and serve as the designated hitter.

OF | Brennan Boesch | Detroit Tigers | Fantasy
Detroit Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski indicated that he doesn't think OFs Avisail Garcia and Nick Castellanos are capable of being part-time players to platoon with OF Andy Dirks in left field. "With Garcia and Castellanos, and I'll put them both in the same boat Garcia the better outfielder, Castellanos is going to be a quality hitter," Dombrowski said. "They're not going to come up and only play 30 or 40 games for us at this time." Dirks hit incredibly well against right-handers last year, and he wasn't bad against lefties, either, hitting .274 against them. OF Brennan Boesch, Quintin Berry and Don Kelly all hit left-handed like Dirks. However, Dombrowski said Boesch still has a shot to win the starting job from Dirks in spring training.

OF | Gerardo Parra | Arizona Diamondbacks | Fantasy
Updating a previous report, the Arizona Diamondbacks agreed to a one-year, $2.35 million deal with OF Gerardo Parra Tuesday, Feb. 5, to avoid salary arbitration. Parra will play for Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic this year.

OF | Justin Ruggiano | Miami Marlins | Injury, Fantasy
Miami Marlins OF Justin Ruggiano (shoulder) should be at full speed this spring, and he's the front-runner to start in center field this year. "Ruggiano was banged up at the end of the season," president Larry Beinfest said. "He has no restrictions coming into camp." OF Alfredo Silverio (neck, back, elbow) will not be fully cleared to participate at the start of spring training after undergoing Tommy John surgery last year. He will likely enter the season on the disabled list.

OF | Logan Morrison | Miami Marlins | Injury, Fantasy
Miami Marlins OF Logan Morrison (knee), who will be transitioning from left field to first base this season, will not be running at full strength when camp begins, but he may be cleared to pick up the pace at the end of the month. "We're going to be patient," president Larry Beinfest said. "We'll wait for him to be back. We'll work with Dr. Steadman and Dr. Kaplan on anything that's going on with the knee." There is still a chance Morrison won't be ready by opening day. 1B Joe Mahoney is expected to see a good look at first with Morrison still recovering during spring training. 3B Greg Dobbs and OF Austin Kearns will also see work at first.

SP | Chris Capuano | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy,
Los Angeles Dodgers pitching coach Rick Honeycutt said Tuesday, Feb. 5, that SP Chris Capuano threw two bullpen sessions at minicamp last week. He might be pushing for a long relief job, as there would be no room in the rotation should SP Chad Billingsley (elbow) stay healthy.

SP | CC Sabathia | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy,
New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia (elbow) said Tuesday, Feb. 5, that his pitching elbow feels ready to handle the workload of another season. He feels he expects to be close to his normal schedule at the beginning of training camp. "I feel pretty good. My arm feels good," Sabathia said. "I've been playing catch up to about 110 feet. I look forward to getting down to spring training and get off the mound and see how it feels."

SP | David Phelps | New York Yankees | Fantasy,
New York Yankees P David Phelps said Tuesday, Feb. 5, that he hopes to be a part of the team's rotation in 2013. "I would like to. Anything could happen," Phelps said. "We have seven days until pitches and catches report. I'm just going to go in and try to help the team, whatever role that may be."

SP | Brandon Morrow | Toronto Blue Jays | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy,
Toronto Blue Jays SP Brandon Morrow is likely to start the second game of the season against the Cleveland Indians Wednesday, April 3. SP | Shelby Miller | St. Louis Cardinals | Free Agents, Fantasy,
St. Louis Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said the team is prepared to enter the season with their in-house starting rotation options now that SP Chris Carpenter (shoulder) is expected to miss the entire season. SPs Lance Lynn, Joe Kelly, Shelby Miller and Trevor Rosenthal are the options to replace Carpenter. However, the team won't rule out outside help, including re-signing SP Kyle Lohse.

SP | Bruce Chen | Kansas City Royals | Fantasy,
Kansas City Royals SP Bruce Chen, who played for Panama in the last World Baseball Classic, is still hoping to play for China in this spring's Classic, but Chen doesn't have any documentation tying him to China since his grandparents moved from China to Panama some 70 years ago. Team China is in the process of making an appeal to Major League Baseball on Chen's behalf.

SP | Clayton Kershaw | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Fantasy,
Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw (hip) and RP Javy Guerra (shoulder) both threw pain-free sessions during the team's minicamp last week. "Clayton was great, outstanding," said pitching coach Rick Honeycutt. "But he was outstanding his last three starts, so that wasn't a surprise. Shawn Tolleson had a little back tightness, but he threw a pen. So did Josh Wall and Javy Guerra, who isn't as far behind as I thought he'd be. Belisario was there, he threw twice, looked real good."

SP | Chris Carpenter | St. Louis Cardinals | Injury, Fantasy,
St. Louis Cardinals SP Chris Carpenter (shoulder) experienced more pain and numbness in his right shoulder, which are the same symptoms he suffered from last season before undergoing surgery on his shoulder, neck and back. SPs Shelby Miller, Joe Kelly and Trevor Rosenthal are realistic options to replace Carpenter in this year's rotation.

SP | Aroldis Chapman | Cincinnati Reds | Fantasy,
Cincinnati Reds SP Aroldis Chapman said he's not worried about an increased workload this year as he transitions from a reliever to a starting pitcher. "I have no worries about my arm," Chapman said. SP | Matt Garza | Chicago Cubs | Injury, Free Agents, Fantasy,
Chicago Cubs SP Matt Garza (elbow) threw his first pain-free bullpen session since suffering a triceps and elbow injury in July. He threw 30 pitches without pain Monday, Feb. 4. "Matty looks like he is in great shape," pitching coach Chris Bosio said. "It looks like he worked hard in the offseason. His legs are in great shape, and I believe he is ahead of where he was last year when he reported." Garza is on schedule to be a part of the team's spring training rotation. Garza will be a free agent at the end of the season, so he will be a candidate to be traded this summer if the Cubs are out of contention.

Relief Pitcher

RP | Barret Browning | St. Louis Cardinals | Transaction
St. Louis Cardinals RP Barret Browning cleared waivers and has been invited to spring training.

RP | Casey Janssen | Toronto Blue Jays | Injury, Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy,
Toronto Blue Jays CL Casey Janssen will serve as the team's closer once again in 2013, according to manager John Gibbons. There was thought that Janssen would face competition from RP Sergio Santos, who opened 2012 as the club's closer before being lost for the season with a shoulder injury after just six appearances. But Gibbons posted a 2.54 ERA and 0.86 WHIP over 63 2/3 innings.

Texas Rangers SP Kyle McClellan (shoulder) has resumed throwing from a mound, as he continues to make progress in his recovery from shoulder surgery. New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson did not name RP Frank Francisco (elbow) the closer Monday, Feb. 4, but Alderson said Francisco is having a normal recovery after having surgery in December to remove a bone spur from his right elbow. Francisco is not expected to be limited in spring training. "I think a lot will depend on what we see over the course of February and into March," Alderson said. RP Bobby Parnell is likely the primary alternative to Francisco, with RP Brandon Lyon in the background.
