Second Baseman

2B | Dustin Ackley | Seattle Mariners | Fantasy
Seattle Mariners 2B Dustin Ackley may lead off to start the 2013 season if his bat proves solid during spring training. Manager Eric Wedge envisions Ackley as a prototypical leadoff hitter. There has also been some speculation about moving Ackley into the outfield, if only because several top prospects play second and moving Ackley could mean a hot prospect comes up.

2B | Adam Buschini | San Diego Padres | Transaction
The San Diego Padres signed free-agent 2B Adam Buschini (Australian League) to a minor league deal Monday, Feb. 4. Buschini will likely start the year at Double-A San Antonio.

2B | Tony Abreu | San Francisco Giants | Transaction
The San Francisco Giants claimed 2B Tony Abreu off waivers from the Kansas City Royals Monday, Feb. 4.

2B | Chris Getz | Kansas City Royals | Injury, Fantasy
Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost expects the battle for the starting second base job this spring between 2Bs Chris Getz (thumb) and Johnny Giavotella to be an intense one. Yost said Getz is healthy and has added some bulk in the offseason. Giavotella had a slash line of .250/.276/.330 with a home run and nine RBIs in 32 games after Getz broke his thumb in August. Giavotella's weak spot has been his defensive play.

Shortstop

SS | Derek Jeter | New York Yankees | Fantasy
New York Yankees SS Derek Jeter, SP Phil Hughes and RP Clay Rapada have arrived at camp early.

SS | Julio Lugo | Retired Players | Transaction, Free Agents, Fantasy
Long-time Major League Baseball INF Julio Lugo plans to retire following the Caribbean Series this week, according to Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com. He's suiting up for Dominican Republic club Leones del Escogido. His last action came with the Atlanta Braves in 2011, and a minor league contract with the Cleveland Indians fell apart before the start of 2012 spring training.

SS | Jed Lowrie | Oakland Athletics | Fantasy
The Oakland Athletics, with the acquisition of SS Jed Lowrie, have given themselves insurance in case SS Hiroyuki Nakajima doesn't cut it at shortstop this year. If Nakajima struggles, Lowrie can play shortstop and Nakajima can slide over to second base and 3B Scott Sizemore can battle for playing time at third base with 3B Josh Donaldson. If Nakajima works out at shortstop, Lowrie can play third base. INFs Andy Parrino, Eric Sogard and Adam Rosales shore up the depth further.

Third Baseman

3B | Alex Rodriguez | New York Yankees | Fantasy
Updating previous reports, the documents released by the Miami New Times connect New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez to at least 19 drugs and supplements, including the banned substances testosterone, HGH and IGF-1, and define one doping regimen that includes as many 19 injections: four subcutaneous injections of IGF-1, nine shots of CJC (a growth hormone releasing hormone) and GHRP (growth hormone releasing peptide), and six shots of HGH at 2.5 international units.

C | Matt Wieters | Baltimore Orioles | Fantasy

OF | Curtis Granderson | New York Yankees | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy

OF | Jacoby Ellsbury | Boston Red Sox | Injury, Fantasy
Boston Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said OF Jacoby Ellsbury (shoulder) will be ready to play in spring training. "In Jacoby's case, there's no issues whatsoever," Cherington said. "He's fine (and) had a normal offseason."

SP | Dan Haren | Washington Nationals | Injury, Fantasy,
Updating a previous report Washington Nationals SP Dan Haren (back, hip), who dealt with back and hip issues last season that led to diminished velocity, said he doesn't expect any problems this year, and he enters spring training fully healthy. "I feel great," Haren said at. "I threw a bullpen actually (on Jan. 25) before I flew out. I felt good, I feel strong. Just trying to put it in neutral a little bit. I've thrown three or four bullpens. I don't want to get ready too early, especially this year with spring starting a little earlier, games starting a little earlier." Haren has dealt with his lingering hip issues by losing weight, improving his flexibility and strengthening his core muscles.

SP | Joel Pineiro | Baltimore Orioles | Fantasy,
The Baltimore Orioles extended a spring training invite to RP Mark Hendrickson, but SP Joel Pineiro, who also signed Monday, Feb. 4, will be assigned to minor league camp, according to a source. Hendrickson is now using a sidearm delivery that he has picked up quickly. He'll be battling for a bullpen spot.

SP | Brandon Webb | Retired Players | Transaction, Free Agents,

RP | Mariano Rivera | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy,
New York Yankees RP Mariano Rivera (knee) has been throwing and running, and he's excited to get back to work at spring training this year. "I'm throwing a little bit, I'm running," Rivera said. "Once I get there, the weather will be better, and the time will be the right time to start pushing the legs. I have six more weeks to get ready, so I have all confidence that everything will be fine." Manager Joe Girardi also expects Rivera to be fully ready by opening day. Girardi said he will likely defer to Rivera when deciding his Cactus League schedule.

RP | Bruce Rondon | Detroit Tigers | Fantasy,
Detroit Tigers RP Bruce Rondon, who will be given every chance to emerge as the team's closer this spring, consistently hits triple digits with his fastball, and he's been clocked as high as 104 mph. His changeup can reach up to 90 mph. "You were pretty much guaranteed to see 100 every time he stepped out on the mound," minor league pitching coach Mike Maroth said. "A hundred is pretty common for him. The thing is, it doesn't look like it's that hard before he throws so free and easy. He's not a max-effort guy. The ball just jumps out." Rondon seems to challenge his adrenaline well in the few big situations he's pitched in so far in his career, but he also wasn't auditioning for a major league job, let alone the closing role. His late-breaking slider is an excellent complement that has plenty of movement without losing much velocity.

RP | Jose Valverde | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy,
Reports of the Miami Marlins being close to signing free-agent RP Jose Valverde (Tigers) are "utterly false."

RP | Pedro Viola | Oakland Athletics | Transaction,
The Oakland Athletics signed free-agent RPs Pedro Viola (Orioles) and Carlos Fisher (Reds) to minor league deals.
