Fantasy Basketball: Single-category solutions
Sometimes owners will use the final spots on a fantasy basketball team for one-dimensional contributors to pad a single statistic. The players offered here as suggestions for that purpose are expected to be found on waiver wires in more than half of standard fantasy leagues.
Injuries have the Minnesota Timberwolves playing with a limited rotation and J.J. Barea receiving key minutes off the bench. While Ricky Rubio has made four consecutive starts, shooting woes recently saw him benched late in the fourth quarter. In the last two games, Barea averaged 12.5 points and 7.5 assists. While Barea is only averaging 4.6 dimes a night, he owns a pair of games with 10 assists from earlier in the year.
Still available: Jamaal Tinsley of the Utah Jazz is coming off back-to-back games of double-digit scoring for just the second time all season. Over his last eight starts, Tinsley has recorded six or more assists on five occasions. He's also averaging nearly a three and a steal per game during that time.
Over the last week, Los Angeles Lakers forward Earl Clark is tied for the sixth-most rebounds among all players with 38 boards collected. He isn't doing much in terms of blocks and steals but is averaging double-digit points. Concerns over Dwight Howard's shoulder were quickly soothed, but Clark will continue to start over Pau Gasol.
Still available: The soon-to-be New Orleans Pelican Al-Farouq Aminu has recorded 10 or more rebounds in eight of his last 10 games.
Tyler Zeller of the Cleveland Cavaliers is erratic when shooting the ball but has averaged 11 rebounds over the last three games. He is also rejecting 2.1 shots a game this month.
Randy Foye has made a three-pointer in nine straight games. During that time he's attempting five long distance shots per night while making 2.8 of them. Foye set career bests in three-point shooting categories last season and is playing his best ball of the year right now.
Still available: Over the last 30 days, Carlos Delfino has made 46 threes, third-most in the Association. Delfino is taking 6.5 threes during the month of January despite playing less than 27 minutes a game.
After trading away Marreese Speights, the Memphis Grizzles' primary reserve in the frontcourt becomes Darrell Arthur. Over the last four games he's averaging 1.8 blocks. Arthur is also coming off his best game of the season: 20 points and nine rebounds in nearly 28 minutes of action.
Still available: Detroit Pistons rookie big man Andre Drummond has a block in 10 straight games. In that span, he's averaging 2.1 blocks per contest.
Over the last 11 games, Grizz guard Tony Allen is averaging 10 points and 1.9 steals per game. During that time he's recorded three steals on four occasions and multiple swipes seven times.
