We probably forgot after his season was cut short; he had a blood clot removed from an artery near his pitching shoulder. Before that, he posted a 7.96 K/9, 2.38 BB/9, 50.3 grounder rate and a bloated 4.10 ERA that hid the aforementioned indicators.

Last year also marked the second consecutive season he posted an empty-hack inducement rate of 9.1 or better. Oh, and of his 29.6 fly-ball percentage, 9.6 of that stayed in the infield.

Positive results may not show immediately, and getting back his cutter-slider proficiency could take a bit. But if Gee can suit up and not go the way of Jeremy Bonderman, the Mets will sustain this pace of SP breakout production a year after R.A. Dickey, Jonathon Niese and, for a spell, Matt Harvey stepped up.

Once again, the masses' aversion to (likely) bad teams opens up an attractive stash investment for deep mixers.
