Fantasy Basketball: Single-category solutions
Sometimes owners will use the final spots on a fantasy basketball team for one-dimensional contributors to pad a single statistic. The players offered here as suggestions for that purpose and are expected to be found in more than half of standard fantasy leagues.
The Atlanta Hawks have been going with two starting point guards lately, Jeff Teague as the primary ball handler and Devin Harris listed as a two guard. Harris, who averaged five assists per game last year with the Utah Jazz, has recorded five assists in three of his last four starts. In that time Teague is dropping half a dozen dimes per game but has seen his monthly assist average decline since the season began.
Beno Udrih serves as the primary backup to both Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis of the Milwaukee Bucks and has recorded seven assists in each of the last two games. He also did a good job taking care of the ball, turning it over a total of three times. Over the years Udrih has proven himself capable of collecting assists quickly off the bench, even when his minutes are not consistent.
Still available: Over the last two weeks Jamaal Tinsley has 40 assists for the Utah Jazz, an average of 5.7 per game, which has him inside the top 20 players in assists during that time.
Since becoming a starter for the New Orleans Hornets seven games ago Al-Farouq Aminu has averaged 10.8 rebounds per contest. He's also doing a good job intercepting the ball with nearly two steals a game. Aminu is coming off a game in which he got to the line for 13 attempts. However, it's important to note Eric Gordon was not in the lineup for that one in order to rest his surgically-repaired knee on a back-to-back.
In 15 games as a starter rookie Tyler Zeller of the Cleveland Cavaliers is averaging 10.1 points, seven rebounds and 1.5 blocks. While his scoring has taken a slight dip this month Zeller's other numbers are holding up.
Still available: Reggie Evans has averaged 10.3 rebounds in eight games this month, even though he has barely shot the ball. However, the Brooklyn Nets will likely bump Evans out of the start lineup in favor of Gerald Wallace, who's returning to full strength after a rib injury, at some point soon.
While coming off the bench for the Bucks over the last 15 games, Mike Dunleavy is taking 4.5 threes and making nearly two of them a night. The scoring totals will be inconsistent, but nearly half of Dunleavy's attempts on the year are coming from long range.
Still available: Despite ranking among the league leaders in both threes made and attempted Kyle Korver (2.4 made, 5.7 attempts this month) of the Atlanta Hawks and Carlos Delfino (2.6-6.0) of the Houston Rockets are both available in more than half of fantasy leagues.
Bismack Biyombo has now blocked at least two shots in five straight games for the Charlotte Bobcats. The native of Congo is an erratic scorer but will show flashes of rebounding ability from time to time.
Still available: Detroit Pistons rookie Andre Drummond is rejecting 2.6 shots a game this month in addition to registering eight points and 8.4 rebounds.
