1B | Adam LaRoche | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
The Texas Rangers aren't aggressively pursuing free-agent 1B Adam LaRoche (Nationals), according to a baseball official. SS | Ramiro Pena | Atlanta Braves | Transaction, Fantasy
The Atlanta Braves signed free-agent SS Ramiro Pena (Yankees) to a one-year undisclosed deal Thursday, Dec. 13. He will compete to serve as the team's backup infielder. It's unlikely that both Pena and SS Paul Janish will be on the roster together. Pena is out of minor league options, so he's likely to start the season on the roster.

SS | Brian Bocock | Washington Nationals | Transaction
The Washington Nationals signed free-agent SS Brian Bocock (Blue Jays) to a minor league deal Thursday, Dec. 13.

OF | Nick Swisher | free agent | Free Agents, Fantasy
Free-agent OF Nick Swisher (Yankees) will meet with multiple teams next week.

OF | Xavier Nady | Kansas City Royals | Transaction, Free Agents

For those reasons, it was my first choice," McLouth said.

OF | Josh Hamilton | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Fantasy
Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said he was upset with the way things played out when Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim OF Josh Hamilton didn't give the Rangers a chance to match or best the Angels' offer. "I thought we had additional conversations this week that had moved it along in a positive direction," Daniels said. "Apparently not. It's business and everybody has to make their own calls, and he has a family to look out for. I get it."

OF | Scott Van Slyke | Los Angeles Dodgers | Transaction
The Los Angeles Dodgers designated OF Scott Van Slyke for assignment Wednesday, Dec. 12.

Starting Pitcher

SP | Justin Masterson | Cleveland Indians | Fantasy,
Cleveland Indians SP Justin Masterson said his shoulder surgery in October of 2011 did not allow him to go through a normal offseason throwing program prior to last season, which led to inconsistencies in his mechanics throughout the year. "I just never really felt comfortable, even when things went well," Masterson said. "I think we got to a point where, sometimes you just have to keep it simple. There were some times we tried to do too much. It was, 'Let's do this,' or 'Let's do that.' There's a point where you just have to sit back."

SP | Rick Porcello | Detroit Tigers | Fantasy,
Detroit Tigers SPs Rick Porcello and Drew Smyly are likely to compete for the fifth starting spot for the team. SPs Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, Doug Fister and Anibal Sanchez are the other four starters.
