Fantasy owners should take note of Indianapolis Colts tight end Dwayne Allen's temporary ascension to the starting lineup. He will replace Coby Fleener, whose shoulder subluxation may cost him several games.
More than adequate replacement
The Colts have to contend with the Miami Dolphins in Week 9, which presents a great matchup for Allen. Miami's defense is friendly against the position, particularly by giving up big plays, allowing 13.3 yards per reception versus this season. Tight ends have averaged 70.4 yards on 5.29 receptions per game.
Miami's run defense is their defensive strength, so I expect to see a lot of Allen as an extension of what should be a stalled running game.
In what is a tough bye week for tight ends, PPR owners should check their waiver wire for Allen. He is available in 88 percent of leagues polled. I forecast 13 fantasy points in formats that reward for receptions, which isn't too shabby on a bye week that removes Aaron Hernandez, Rob Gronkowski, Dustin Keller and Vernon Davis from your available player pool.
Allen isn't much of a long-term option, and his Week 10 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars is not conducive to success given how well they guard the tight end position.
