First Baseman

1B | Jason Giambi | Colorado Rockies | Fantasy
Colorado Rockies 1B Jason Giambi appears to be a very strong candidate to become the team's next manager. "I have known Jason for a long time and I know a lot of the aspects ... he can bring to a team, and (about) his ability, as far as his communication skills. I know that everybody here has gotten a sense of that. (Those) that had interaction with him probably feel the same way I do. And that is that he is a very, very viable candidate for this position," senior vice president Bill Geivett said.

Second Baseman

2B | Brandon Phillips | Cincinnati Reds | Fantasy
The Cincinnati Reds head into the offseason with finding a leadoff hitter as their biggest priority. The Reds used SS Zack Cozart, OF Drew Stubbs, 2B Brandon Phillips and OF Chris Heisey saw time at the leadoff spot this year. Their leadoff hitters hit only .208 with a .254 on-base percentage this season, which were both ranked last in the majors. SS Billy Hamilton could be an option, but he remains a year or more away from major league action.

2B | Marco Scutaro | San Francisco Giants | Fantasy
San Francisco Giants 2B Marco Scutaro went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and two RBIs in Game 1 of the World Series against the Detroit Tigers Wednesday, Oct. 24. Scutaro carried over the momentum from the National League Championship Series, where he was named MVP.

Shortstop

SS | Derek Jeter | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy
New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi said the team fully expects SS Derek Jeter (ankle) to be ready for the start of next season. "I think there's always a concern, but really in our hearts we believe he's going to be ready for us," Girardi said. "We might have to hold him back a little bit; he may want to do too much because he always tells me that he feels great, so that's something that I'm going to have to evaluate." Jeter is using a splint and crutches following his surgery last weekend. The team has no plans to search for a replacement for Jeter at shortstop this offseason.

Third Baseman

3B | Miguel Cabrera | Detroit Tigers | Fantasy
Detroit Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera and San Francisco Giants C Buster Posey marked the first set of batting champs to face each other in the World Series since 1954, when Willie Mays of the New York Giants and Bobby Avila of the Cleveland Indians squared off.

3B | Pablo Sandoval | San Francisco Giants | Fantasy
The San Francisco Giants are deciding who to use at designated hitter for Games 3-5 of the World Series in Detroit. C Hector Sanchez is an option, as is 3B Pablo Sandoval, OF Aubrey Huff or 2B Ryan Theriot.

Catcher

C | Miguel Olivo | free agent | Transaction, Free Agents, Fantasy
The Seattle Mariners declined the 2013 option on C Miguel Olivo Wednesday, Oct. 24, making him a free agent. Also, Seattle released SS Munenori Kawasaki.

C | Anthony Recker | Chicago Cubs | Transaction
The Chicago Cubs designated C Anthony Recker for assignment Wednesday, Oct. 24.

Outfielder

OF | Avisail Garcia | Detroit Tigers | Fantasy
Detroit Tigers OF Avisail Garcia will start in right field in Game 1 of the World Series Wednesday, Oct. 24, with left-handed San Francisco Giants SP Barry Zito on the mound. Manager Jim Leyland isn't guaranteeing another start for Garcia in Game 2, though, when another lefty, SP Madison Bumgarner will toe the rubber.

OF | Matt Kemp | Los Angeles Dodgers | Injury, Fantasy
Los Angeles Dodgers OF Matt Kemp (shoulder) was "surprised and definitely disappointed" when he learned the extent of his left shoulder damage after undergoing surgery earlier this month. However, he expects to be ready for opening day next year. "I wish it just would have been a cleanup and taken six weeks," said Kemp, who begins his rehabilitation Wednesday, Oct. 24, in Arizona. "They actually had to go repair some things. Now, I think it's going to be closer to January before I'm getting to hit and do a lot of other things." Kemp's partially torn labrum was fixed and rotator cuff damage was cleaned up. OF Tony Gwynn Jr. could be used in center field if Kemp isn't ready for the start of the season.

Starting Pitcher

SP | Justin Verlander | Detroit Tigers | Fantasy,
Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander allowed five earned runs, six hits and a walk in just four innings in a loss Wednesday, Oct. 24, in Game 1 of the World Series against the San Francisco Giants. He served up two of the three homers hit by 3B Pablo Sandoval. Only Tampa Bay Rays OF Desmond Jennings hit two homers in a game off Verlander this season.

SP | Barry Zito | San Francisco Giants | Fantasy,
San Francisco Giants SP Barry Zito allowed just one earned run, six hits and a walk with three strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings in a win in Game 1 of the World Series Wednesday, Oct. 24, against the Detroit Tigers. He threw 53 of his 81 pitches for strikes. Zito also picked up a hit and RBI off opposing SP Justin Verlander.

SP | Carlos Gutierrez | Chicago Cubs | Transaction,
The Chicago Cubs claimed SP Carlos Gutierrez off waivers from the Minnesota Twins Wednesday, Oct. 24, and added him to their 40-man roster.

SP | CC Sabathia | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy,
New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia (elbow) has yet to visit with Dr. James Andrews, but the team is sending him as a precaution and they don't believe he's dealing with a serious elbow injury. An MRI exam after the ALDS showed a bone spur in his left elbow, but the team thinks he had been pitching through it since 2008. New York does not expect Sabathia to miss any spring training next year.

SP | Andy Pettitte | New York Yankees | Fantasy,
New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi said he expects SP Andy Pettitte to seriously consider returning for another season. "There's a lot of hunger and fire in him, I know that," Girardi said. "We saw how he pushed himself to get back and to be a postseason and down-the-stretch pitcher for us, going out there where he had 65 pitches, which is not normally something you do at this time of the year."

SP | Ryan Vogelsong | San Francisco Giants | Fantasy,
San Francisco Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong will start in Game 3 of the World Series against the Detroit Tigers Saturday, Oct. 27. SP Matt Cain will take the ball in Game 4 Sunday, Oct. 28. SP Tim Lincecum will move back to the bullpen after starting Game 4 of the NLCS against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Detroit Tigers hit .275 against right-handed pitching this year, which was the highest in the majors. Vogelsong will be in line to start a potential Game 7.

Relief Pitcher

RP | Jose Valverde | Detroit Tigers | Fantasy,
Detroit Tigers RP Jose Valverde allowed two earned runs and four hits in Game 1 of the World Series against the San Francisco Giants while recording just one out, a strikeout of RP Tim Lincecum.

RP | Matt Capps | free agent | Transaction, Free Agents, Fantasy,
The Minnesota Twins declined to pick up RP Matt Capps' $6 million option for the 2013 season Wednesday, Oct. 24, making him a free agent. Also, Ps Jeff Manship, Luis Perdomo, Esmerling Vasquez, Kyle Waldrop, P.J. Walters and OF Matt Carson were outrighted to the minors.

RP | Mariano Rivera | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy,
New York Yankees general manager Joe Girardi said he fully expects RP Mariano Rivera (knee) to rebound from his torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee. "From watching how he rehabbed and everything that he was going through - (Rivera) picked up a baseball sooner than he was supposed to and got his hand smacked a little bit - that would tell me that Mo probably wants to play," Girardi said.
