Glad I don't own Dwayne Bowe.
A McCluster of passes coming?
Romeo Crennel effectively drove a stake through the heart of Bowe's fantasy value when he named Brady Quinn his starter for Week 8 and beyond. Unless the Kansas City Chiefs trade Bowe or Matt Cassel ends up under center again. Neither of which I'd rule out, no matter what the head coach says.
Quinn brings a deadly combination to the quarterback position: a completion rate of 52.9 percent, a yards-per-attempt mark of 5.4 and a yards-per-completion figure of 10.2. Those numbers would rank dead last, dead last and 32nd against the backdrop of the 33 qualifying signal callers in the NFL this season.
Yes, Quinn has been the quintessential inaccurate dump-off passer. Why bother to look around ... when you can just check down?
In the Notre Dame product's lone start for KC, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6 (a sweet matchup, by the way), Quinn targeted Bowe nine times. The 28-year-old receiver hauled in three passes for 25 yards.
There's a silver lining to Quinn's rise to start-dom, however - at least for those in PPR leagues. Owners of Jamaal Charles (and maybe Peyton Hillis or Shaun Draughn) could enjoy the frequency with which Quinn settles for less.
And for those cruising through their PPR league's free-agent list, Dexter McCluster could warrant a more permanent spot on their benches.
The third-year RB/WR/RB/WR/RB/WR got us all a little excited when he saw 10 looks and recorded eight catches for 62 yards in his team's season opener. Then he was banged up a little, saw fewer opportunities and ended up back on waivers.
Quinn sought the speedy McCluster's services eight times in Week 6, and the 5-foot-8, 170-pound pseudo-dynamo caught the rock on six of them to gain 39 yards. He's just the kind of player who could continue to benefit from Crennel's switch at QB on a regular basis.
