First Baseman

1B | Matt Fields | Kansas City Royals | Transaction, Fantasy
Kansas City Royals P Juan Gutierrez was among five players re-signed to minor league contracts, the Royals announced on Thursday, Oct. 18. The others were C Max Ramirez, 1B Matt Fields, OF Nick Van Stratten and P Devon Lowery.

1B | Matt LaPorta | Cleveland Indians | Injury, Fantasy
Cleveland Indians 1B Matt LaPorta (hip) underwent arthroscopic left hip surgery Thursday, Oct. 18, and he'll need three to four months of recovery time. He's expected to be fully ready for spring training unless he suffers a setback. "He's out of options going into next year," general manager Chris Antonetti said at the end of the regular season. "So he'll either have to be on a major league team somewhere or he'd have to go through waivers before he could be sent back to the minor leagues." It seems unlikely that LaPorta will earn an everyday job at this point with Cleveland, though. INF Russ Canzler and 3B Jack Hannahan are other options at first base, and Canzler and OF Ezequiel Carrera are the leading internal candidates for left field.

Second Baseman

2B | Robinson Cano | New York Yankees | Free Agents, Fantasy
The New York Yankees have 12 free agents this offseason, including OF Nick Swisher, OF Ichiro Suzuki, C Russell Martin, OF Raul Ibanez, SP Hiroki Kuroda, CL Mariano Rivera and SP Andy Pettitte. They can choose to pick up club options on 2B Robinson Cano and OF Curtis Granderson. This year's closer, RP Rafael Soriano, can choose to opt out.

2B | Skip Schumaker | St. Louis Cardinals | Fantasy
St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Carpenter, and OFs Skip Schumaker and Shane Robinson are options to start in right field in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series Thursday, Oct. 18, if OF Carlos Beltran (knee) cannot play. Carpenter and Robinson haven't faced Game 4 SP Tim Lincecum, but Schumaker has gone 7-for-22 (.318) with a home run and a double against him in 22 regular season at-bats.

Shortstop

SS | Jhonny Peralta | Detroit Tigers | Fantasy
Detroit Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera, SS Jhonny Peralta and OF Austin Jackson all hit home runs Thursday, Oct. 18, during Game 4 of the American League Championship Series as the Tigers won, 8-1, over the New York Yankees to complete a four-game sweep.

SS | Nick Green | free agent | Transaction, Free Agents
Miami Marlins INF Nick Green and 3B Donnie Murphy refused their minor league assignments Wednesday, Oct. 17, making them free agents.

Third Baseman

3B | Miguel Cabrera | Detroit Tigers | Fantasy
Detroit Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera now has a 17-game hitting streak in League Championship Series, and he has reached base in all 20 playoff games with the team, which is a club record.

3B | Alex Rodriguez | New York Yankees | Fantasy
The Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Dodgers aren't interested in New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez.

Catcher

C | Steve Lerud | Philadelphia Phillies | Transaction
The Philadelphia Phillies outrighted INF Peter Orr and C Steve Lerud to the minors Thursday, Oct. 18.

C | Buster Posey | San Francisco Giants | Fantasy
San Francisco Giants C Buster Posey is starting at first base in Game 4 of the NLCS Thursday, Oct. 18, with C Hector Sanchez receiving the start behind the plate.

C | Chris Stewart | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy
The New York Yankees had an alternative lineup consisting of C Chris Stewart over C Russell Martin (thumb) because his jammed right thumb is an obvious concern. However, Martin started in Game 4 of the ALCS and said his thumb is not a problem.

Outfielder

OF | Matt Holliday | St. Louis Cardinals | Fantasy
St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday said that his mother had undergone surgery for colon cancer Thursday, Oct. 18, and that she was resting comfortably.

OF | Carlos Beltran | St. Louis Cardinals | Injury, Fantasy
The St. Louis Cardinals could have OF Carlos Beltran (knee) back in the lineup. Beltran missed virtually all of Games 3 and 4 with a left knee strain but is optimistic about playing in Game 5 after doing some jogging and hitting indoors Thursday, Oct. 18. "Right now, the plan is to come in tomorrow and do what I have to do in order to be in the lineup," said Beltran. "Today was a better day for me, better than yesterday."

OF | Delmon Young | Detroit Tigers | Fantasy
Detroit Tigers DH Delmon Young was selected most valuable player of the American League Championship Series Thursday, Oct. 18, after batting .353 with two homers and six RBIs for the Tigers in a four-game sweep of the New York Yankees.

OF | Allen Craig | St. Louis Cardinals | Injury, Fantasy
St. Louis Cardinals OF Carlos Beltran (knee) is available to pinch hit against the San Francisco Giants in Game 4 of the NLCS Thursday, Oct. 18. Beltran is still listed as day-to-day. 1B Matt Carpenter is starting at first base and OF Allen Craig is shifting to right field.

Starting Pitcher

SP | CC Sabathia | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy
New York Yankees SP CC Sabathia (elbow) will have his elbow examined in the near future. "Let's put it this way, we're going to look at that elbow, no doubt about it," general manager Brian Cashman said. "That will be on the list of things we have to look at now that the offseason's here. Whether he wants to or not, we're going to go look into this thing and make sure everything's OK."

SP | Madison Bumgarner | San Francisco Giants | Fantasy
San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner is available out of the bullpen for Game 5 of the NLCS.

SP | Adam Wainwright | St. Louis Cardinals | Fantasy
St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright bounced back from a poor outing in Game 5 of the National League Division Series, striking out five and walking none for his first postseason victory as a starter. The Cardinals won 8-3 over the San Francisco Giants in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series Thursday, Oct. 18.

SP | Tim Lincecum | San Francisco Giants | Fantasy
San Francisco Giants SP Tim Lincecum was disappointing in his first postseason start since the 2010 World Series clincher over the Texas Rangers, giving up four runs in 4 2-3 innings as the Giants lost 8-3 to the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series.

SP | Max Scherzer | Detroit Tigers | Fantasy
Detroit Tigers SP Max Scherzer allowed just one run on two hits and struck out 10 over 5 2/3 innings of work in an 8-1 win over the New York Yankees to complete a four-game American League Championship Series sweep. He walked two, and didn't allow his first hit until the sixth, when Yankees INF Eduardo Nunez led off with a triple.

SP | R.A. Dickey | New York Mets | Fantasy,
The New York Mets could consider trading SP R.A. Dickey this offseason if the two sides are not able to agree to a contract extension because his value would be at an all-time high and it could make more sense than just allowing him to play out his contract.

SP | C.J. Wilson | Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim | Injury, Fantasy,
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (elbow) will require a month to six weeks of rehab time following arthroscopic surgery to clean out bone spurs in his left elbow Tuesday, Oct. 23. He's expected to be 100 percent healthy for spring training.

SP | Jaime Garcia | St. Louis Cardinals | Injury, Fantasy
St. Louis Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia (shoulder) has opted to rehab his rotator cuff strain and inflammation in his left shoulder rather than undergo surgery to address the issues. He'll begin rehabbing and be re-evaluated in two or three weeks by Dr. George Paletta. St. Louis is hopeful he will show up to spring training without any limitations. Garcia will not pitch in the playoffs this year, even if the Cardinals make the World Series.

SP | Phil Hughes | New York Yankees | Injury, Fantasy,
New York Yankees SP Phil Hughes (back) is expected to be healthy enough to pitch in the American League Championship Series if the team advances past Game 4 Thursday, Oct. 18. "We think he's going to be available for us," skipper Joe Girardi said. "Not today, but after today, maybe. I think he's going to be fine." The Yanks will not let SP CC Sabathia to go on just two days of rest for a potential Game 7 Sunday, Oct. 21, meaning Hughes would likely pitch in that deciding game.

Relief Pitcher

RP | Sean Burnett | Washington Nationals | Injury
Washington Nationals RP Sean Burnett (elbow) underwent surgery to remove two bone spurs in his elbow. It shouldn't interrupt his throwing program.

RP | Jeremy Accardo | free agent | Transaction
Oakland Athletics RP Jeremy Accardo declined his outright assignment and elected free agency.

RP | Jason Motte | St. Louis Cardinals | Fantasy,
St. Louis Cardinals RP Jason Motte will be available to pitch in Game 4 of the National League Division Series Thursday, Oct. 18, after recording a two-inning save in Game 3 Wednesday, Oct. 17. Motte threw only 19 pitches, with 16 going for strikes.

RP | Jose Valverde | Detroit Tigers | Fantasy,
Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland will not say whether he will go back to RP Jose Valverde as the closer in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series against the New York Yankees Thursday, Oct. 18. "He's in a good frame of mind, good spirits," said Leyland. "I've been checking with him every day. He's always been able to turn the page pretty good." RP Phil Coke will be available to pitch late in the game Thursday, too.
