Fancy fantasy football: Toby Gerhart's, Cedric Peerman's chances
October 18, 2012 @ 13:05:31 PDT
I see Toby Gerhart's name on the lists of free agents available in a few of my leagues. I'm assuming that it's widespread. I'm having trouble understanding why Adrian Peterson owners (clearly, not moi among them, unfortunately) haven't picked him up. That's an investment I'd feel obliged to protect.
Peterson has already admitted that the pain in his left ankle this week is worse than it was the week before. It won't prevent him from suiting up this Sunday, even though he hasn't practiced yet this week. The Minnesota Vikings are simply limiting the wear and tear on their star runner.
And, as Dan Wiederer notes, part of the reason for the team's interest in reducing the beating AD is taking is the Vikes' Week 8 matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Thursday night. The short week to prepare likely means that Minnesota will take it easy on Peterson again next week.
If there's a next week. There should be, but fantasy owners are already more than familiar with AD's propensity to miss time here and there. Peterson owners and league miners shouldn't have to fire too many neurons to recall that Gerhart posted 15 PPR points per game in the four 2011 games AD missed.
Would the Cincinnati Bengals ponder an augmentation of Cedric Peerman's role on offense, even more so than they did this past Sunday? The third-year back caught eight passes (on eight targets) for 76 yards against the Cleveland Browns in Week 6.
